I don't know if we've got much of a choice. If he comes in we need someone to hold his hand. People are calling for Keegan, but i think he's out of touch and there really isn't much Shearer could take from him anyway, however someone like Houillier who's at the end of his career and wouldn't mind a cushy number with small pressure, then that would be a good duo and i'd be more than happy.

He's rejected us for the reasons why we all thought he wasn't a candidate, i cannot see why that is a problem. He's a settled old man living a life of luxury, he'd be mad to take the job. No hard feelings, he's probably saved himself a heart attack tbh. It doesn't matter if this was the boards 1sts choice, it was their 1st choice because they had some kind of links with him, its a safe bet so to speak, now thats gone they'll have to raise their game, i'm sure its not the 1st barrier the pair have ever come across in their business life, they'll get over it, and still the next manager will be their choice, thats all that matters. Who knows, this could reset their way of thinking, and now they might approach managers they wouldn't usually, push the boat out not just in terms of money, but in terms of direction. Or they could give it to Hughes, which for me is just a swap for previous. bet SA is having a good laugh rolling around in his undeserved pay-off.

Going with a no.

Can we not break some fuking major news like without it getting fuking merged after 2 fuking mins? We've got a thread about him which has been updated, calm down. I'm excited man!

Sorry, you were right. I was wrong. There are no actual quotes saying he was offered other than SSN no? And James, don't apologise mate, no one can call which way SSN will sway and that seems to be what rules all... Make him apologise more man!

Not being patronising, but I think you are fairly new here and havent sat through this forum during other periods of management change. Having watched the last three appointments, I have observed people reacting to changes of bookmakers odds, and after a while, you realise that these changes mean absolutely nothing. Well you were. Anyway, it could be a reaction to the delay of Harry signing on. Why is it not a done deal, flying out of training, money isn't the issue, maybe he doesn't want the job. Has Shearer been approached? It might not of even been as a manager but to bring him back in under Harry, maybe people are picking up on that and its spreading to other possibilities. TBH though, i think its the delay, Harry has just arrived at pompy's training ground, its either a goodbye, or we've not got him. Decision time.

Ashton is shit. He's not Shearer, why people have this obsession with him i do not know.

He's ended a nightmare a few month early, what's wrong with that? Sam Allardyce couldn't cut it, all he had to do was play 442, players in the right position, motivate them, and get some wins under his belt. That's all he had to do, that would of proved to the board he could do the job, instead the stubborn tit had to do it his way, which was the most boring crap, disjointed football thats been served up here in years. He had to go, he was a failure, he failed at everything on the pitch.

Superb post. Maybe this is what happens when your chairman stands with the fans, the mentality seeps through to boardroom decision making. Second that

Barring the £6m on Nugent, the rest has been very well spent. (£7m Muntari, £7m Utaka, £2m Diop, £3m Johnson, Distin Free...) He only spent £3m more than Allardyce, and before we get the "ooh, but the net spend blah blah", he didn't have big saleable assets to sell in the first place in the way we could get in £12m from Parker & Dyer. and at least redknapp cottoned on to the fact that nugent was shite very early on, allardyce meanwhile thinks smith is captain material after half a season of shite. i'm far happier with redknapp getting a warchest than i would be about allardyce getting the same. Nice to see you warming to the idea, Johnny. What do you think Baggio about the whole thing? I'm quite happy about it, like everyone else I'd have preferred someone like Mourinho but I knew realistically it wasn't going to happen. I think Allardyce has been a dead man walking since the takeover, they gave him a chance to show he deserved the job and I think they would have backed him if he'd done better, the football he's had us playing has been terrible though and at times it looked like he wanted the sack with some of his bizarre decisions. I'm optimistic not just because we've got Redknapp, but because Ashley has got his own man and I think the club will move on from here, I think Kaka made a good point about Ashley telling Redknapp to get the team playing as entertaining football as he can and I think he'll do that, with money behind him I think he can put together a team to match Sir Bobby's for entertainment. He's bought a lot of physically dominant players with plenty of pace at Pompey, the sort that can play the shit teams off the park and boss the better teams about too, he's also got the balance right throughout which is something Allardyce never looked like doing here, his team play alot like Villa but are more physically impressive with their size and strength. As I've said a few times tonight, I can see him proving a few people wrong on here, he'll get my support. Good post. Feel the same, its why i asked, one of the more level headed posts flying about ATM. It's possible to be very disappointed but not foaming at the mouth though. I don't usually do in-betweens its a new concept, i rather like it!

Good post. Thanks. To me the difference is that if Sam was given a ton of money and told to make us more of an entertaining and attacking side, he might not be able to achieve it. He would still want his team to have a defensive mindset first. It's just the nature of the man. That's his style and I certainly won't knock him for it. However, it doesn't suit the club or the owner. I just want to say as well, that Harry is definitely a guy that would win the players over pretty quickly. We have to acknowledge the fact that players love to play for him, they just like him. I remember Disitn saying that once Harry contacted him he couldn't turn him down. If we had brought in Hughes instead I would have been very worried about him getting the best out of some of our lot in the short term. Man I'm happy abouth this, but at the same time so sad because of the vibe on here Again another good post, the initial disappointment is wearing off fast, it would come back doubly quick if we don't make waves in this window, i can take the defeats due to the state the team is in, but i want to see some action to get the place buzzing. It could be a massive turn around, it will certainly be more exciting than the 1st half of the season thats for sure.

Its not great, but its not a stinker like Souness imo. He could possibly do well, especially with good financial backing and support off the board and owner.

It's even less subtle than Crumpy would be. The man's clearly on the wind up. Or really not very bright No he's seriously pissed off, he'll calm down in a few hours though.

Yet you loved Allardyce after the shite he served up? I didn't want Allardyce to be sacked, but it's clear enough to me that what we need is investment in the playing staff. I believe Redknapp to be a similar quality manager to Fat Sam, but if he's going to be given more cash, because Ashley feels he can trust him with it more, then he'll almost certainly have more success with the club. I think he's a worse manager. Again all of this is FS logic, that's what worries me. On the pitch I can live with, off the pitch though we're getting back to our bad ways. Ashley has proven to me he's clueless and that has huge ramifications beyond mere football. He was proven to you only a few month ago he was the best thing to happen to the club for ages. Chill out, its a like for like in terms of talent, only the financial backing and football style is different. We all had great plans for Allardyce, unfortunately one man didn't and he owns the club and its up to him if he wants to see some decent football instead of being bored to death for £250m.

Chimbonda, eh? Woo-fucking-hoo. Street party. Probably a spuds writer just adding that bit in as per fuking usual.
