  1. Sell Carrol for 500k? What the fuk would be the point in that? You seen enough of him to say he's not going to make it and its time to cash in? Get any money for Carr?
  2. Agree with this currently, as well. But if Brown were to come, then I'd like to see him played alongside Taylor and Faye deployed in front of them, with Diarra pushed on a little bit. Would Diarra be sufficient to push on for the entire central position? I'd certainly accommodate Brown if we sign him, but i think i'd probably drop Taylor, depending on whether he can get back on form while the ANC is on.
  3. --------------Given------------- Beye--Taylor--Faye--Enrique That line up for me is his best, and he should be trying to play it as much as possible. I'd have Faye next to Enrique and Taylor between the two experienced guys to help them out a bit more. Experience--Youth--Experience--Youth instead of Experience--Experience--Youth--Youth. In essence that should work well, stick Diarra in front of them and that should look somewhat a decent and solid unit.
  4. Oh dear. Hopefully we can find out why at some point.
  5. Shay Given Steve Harper Habib Beye Stephen Carr Steven Taylor Claudio Cacapa David Rozehnal Abdoulaye Faye Jose Enrique James Milner Geremi Alan Smith Joey Barton Nicky Butt Emre Charles N'Zogbia Damien Duff Mark Viduka Michael Owen Shola Ameobi Obafemi Martins All those in bold. We just need more players to fill in the blanks imo. One amazing CB to replace Cacapa & Rozy, one targetman type player to replace Shola, and a couple of creative midfeilders, possibly a right winger, most certainly central, and we'd be a top six team playing in 442 and the players in the right position.
  6. Agreeing with Adrian Durham? Embarrassed for you Even a broken clock is right twice a day. No different to what Shearer did. Prolonging his career after some major injuries that nearly killed his career? Yes that's the reason they both quit England NT.

  8. I wonder how much Defoe will go for? Cheeky £5m bid if we sell Ameobi for £2m?
  9. He's a classy little player, but i just don't think we need him, we need more flair. Its a great signing if we go out and get some attacking players as well.
  10. It's hardly just Parky (thoough I agree, there's a picture of him in the dictionary under the word 'flaky' ), there's people in there comparing him favourably as a cut price Hargreaves and that. I just reckon the view of Smith was generally positive when he was bought and for the first few games (it's the only singning that's been brought up to refute the claim that people were generally happy with Sam's signings so that case is closed anyway), now the view is generally negative. Fair enough, but I reckon we're just never happy with what we've got. Look at Parker, he got a load of stick here, now people are wishing he was back in that other thread. Messiahitis. Look at the Smith signing thread, there weren't many happy faces around in there IIRC.
  11. An Arsenal fans opinion on the draw. Shameful but true. Stoke are a much tougher proposition than us right now. No they aren't. They'd expect to beat us both easily. "Much tougher propostion" is overdoing it a fair bit. They were up for it at home against us but they're pretty ordinary in every department. Just like us. Stoke will play with desire, passion, team spirit and with the nation behind them. We'll play with...erm....eh....hang on....its coming....nope sorry, its gone again. You overstated it. Arsenal would expect to beat either of us comfortably at home. I reckon Wenger would rather play Stoke though. They would expect to beat both, i just think with Stoke on form and being in a different league the potential of a slip up is greater and more worrying than us. Chances are they are going to roll us over, on an off chance we do something, well its not so bad, every half decent team has a bit of luck now and then.
  12. Millwall got to the final without playing Premier League opposition a couple of years ago. I was hoping for a similar slice of luck tbh. Bet it's on the fucking telly too. They only keep showing us in the hope it's the game in which Allardyce gets the heave-ho. Would it even be worth scraping past a lot of lower league teams just to get totally embarrassed in the final by a top team with the whole world watching.. Probably not For european football yes, i'd take a hiding off a top team for that next season, god knows we take hidings from average teams for no reason at all so why not?

  14. That was the hope I clung to in 1999's final!!!! I'd take another final defeat right now, at least its a direct passage into Europe.
  15. Yep, our seasons end earlier and earlier as the years go on. If we didn't have bad luck we'd have no luck at all.

  17. Yes but a cup run and some momentum would of helped greatly, not lumbered with two tough away ties straight off. Also the bigger team will have an eye on the league and the CL, whereas we've got fuk all.
  18. As I recall, people seemed really happy with Allardyces dealings at the time. Hindsight is wonderful. Everyone wanted Smith didn't they?
  19. I agree with the overall sentiment, but there's a few things with a tint of rose about them. Lots of people wanted rid of Robson. The stadium was practically empty for the lap of honour when we finished 5th, as a show of support it was terrible and to the players a final nail in the coffin which was displayed by our start to the following season. As a fan base the Newcastle fans failed Robson miserably. Though lots of managers were a reaction to the previous man, you can't really argue that point with Allardyce. He's the man Shepherd chased for years. And though the majority might have thought he wasn't up to it, I remember very few people agreeing with me that we'd be better off if we stuck with Roeder. And there's loads who preferred to get Allardyce over Sven for some bizarre reason, a myth that goes around about him being lucky, aye, we don't need that do we. Canny summing up of Shepherd's performance otherwise. We did, shameful when you think back.
