  2. I want to know what he thinks of Alan S
  3. This makes me laugh: http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php?action=profile;u=366;sa=showPosts
  4. Bad way of looking at things, you have to remember that speculation happens over time, and once its done very little can be said in reaction. Shearer had no speculation, so was done with very quickly.
  5. It will be Martins out of the team to be honest. Shearer has regularly slated him on the BBC for not attacking the box, and he doesn't offer enough linkup play either. A team with Martins in the starting eleven on a regular basis will never finish in the top ten, and Shearer will realise this.
  6. Everyone is pretty close now, so I may as well say: According to Alan Shearer's autobiography, the agreed deal was £7.5m paid initially £8.1m paid six months later. Newcastle pay the VAT bills. Therefore, the figure paid by Newcastle in July 1996 was approx: £8.8125m And the final amount spent was £18.33m as stated by Greg.
  7. You've nearly got it Greg, but that was the final fee, not the initial installment.
  8. That was the final fee Blackburn received in total, but it is not the answer, there are basically a couple of elements missing.
  9. I'll give it till later, gives anyone who knows the opportunity to impress.
  10. Wasn't he signed right at the end of July? Probably. Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer though. I assumed it was something to do with staged payments though rather than it all being paid upfront the day he signed. You are right in that staged payments are part of the question, however only part, as the actual sum Newcastle paid was over £1m away from the quoted £15m
  11. Wasn't he signed right at the end of July? 30th of July
  12. How do you know? Sign the cheque yourself? 14M? If I said how I know, it would lead people to the source of the info as is widely available. The figure I've got from this reliable source, is rounded to about the nearest £100k, and is not £14m
  13. Just to clarify and give you all a clue: the answer is NOT £15m
  14. How much did Newcastle United pay for Alan Shearer in July 1996? (not including wages, agent fees, insurance and signing on fees) Careful with your responses.

  16. I don't want him back because he's not a particularly good manager with health problems. However I have to disagree that he's very much responsible for our decline. We got 23 points out of 19 games under him, were as we've taken 2 points out of 8 games under Hughton. From his record we'd be safe on 38 points already had he managed us for the games Hughton has. Having said that Hughton isn't responsible either, he's a coach who shouldn't have been put in this position for so long. Whoever decided it was ok to leave a coach in charge of the first team despite a pattern of poor results is responsible for our decline (Ashley/Lambias basically). A lot of those points were picked up during his honeymoon though. Things have got consistently worse.
  17. Its just like the evil parents who buy you a dog for christmas only to tell you eight weeks later that they are going to sell it. But not to worry as you've still got the stick insects they gave you to replace the missing kitten they secretly threw off the bridge in a sack last summer.

  19. why say anything at all if that was the case. Don't want the players thinking that they are playing for a manager who wont be around next season. Some players might think: "whats the point, idiot Kinnear will have me straight out of the team however well I play/train."
  20. Holy shit, what an idiotic thing to do. Second worst manager in the clubs history, very much responsible for our decline, and unreliable due to bad health and poor discipline, and the bastards still want him back.
  21. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7979500.stm "Both Joe and the club have decided it is sensible that Joe does not return to management this season," said Llambias. "He needs to concentrate on making a full recovery before his return in the summer as our manager."
  22. I thought they were at the Euros together and sometimes did MOTD2?
  23. Just a thought, but wouldn't Dowie be a BBC chum?
  24. Chronicle has something from one of Shearer's closest confidants. Thats enough for me.
  25. James

    Obafemi Martins

He better start learning though. Shearer the pundit has often criticised his attacking instinct.
