Is that even possible!?!? The football equivalent of Tea-Bagging!
-
Some great chances, but what's up with Smith? He's been virtually anonymous! N'Zogbia and Duff have been great. I have to say that ESPN's telecast is absolutely awful. The picture quality is so low quality you can barely make out who players are, but worse than that is the audio. The crowd sounds are a quiet background noise, whilst the two commentators have a general chit-chat about football making little reference to the game being televised.

This is starting to look like Blues Brothers III (Puttin' the band back together). Instead of Jake and Elwood we have Keegan and Ashley.
-
I couldn't name who, but I know the type... 3 small guys with a slightly psychopathic quality (that is they look like an easy take down, but are too dumb to care getting their arses kicked). I had a mate who as an MP in the army. He said there's a reason why MPs always seem to be paired up as one small guy and one big guy. The small guy thinks he gets protection from the big guy, the big guy knows everyone will try and attack the small guy first.

Just throwing up a random comment... what about an Owen or Martins + cash trade for him? I think he could be tempted to come here, its whether he would be enthusiastic enough to help force the buy price in to our affordability bracket.
-
Manchester United Arsenal Chelsea Because if we can beat those three 15-0 we can do anyone else for more!
-
I selected optimistic. I am not convinced Keegan is the best we could have got, nor the best we should have been aiming for. But I do think he is a whole lot better than a lot of what we could have settled for and has definitely put the energy back in the club.

1990, when I found out my father had emigrated from Newcastle with his parents (my Grandparents).

Camacho could be someone who would knock the socks off Mort and Ashley.

I have to admit that GH is not my first or second choice (my first choice is Hiddink with Hitzfeld as my second choice), but as a third choice I do like GH with AS as an assistant. I think that GH does have some weaknesses, but I think that AS (whilst inexperienced) would bring major contributions to those weaknesses, effectively negating them. My only concern is one of ego management. It is mandatory, to my mind, that GH is the guy in charge as he's the guy with the experience, but AS should be given a clearly defined role outside of which he can provide requested advice only (this goes to the whole concept of good fences make good neighbours). I do think that it would need prior agreement that if the two fall out with each other AS is the one to go, not GH. Leaving the club in AS' hands with little experience would be a disaster. So if the outcome is GH with AS as an assistant, I'd be quite satisfied with that and would be prepared to back them (assuming rank incompetence isn't revealed within the first few months).

Whilst Ashley may not be able to guarantee we don't get relegated, we should still be eternally grateful to him because his debt repayment has ensured we don't go the way of Leeds United, et al.
-
Having just got back from a mates place after a heavy drinking session and reading that Redknapp rejected us, my reaction is.... WE'RE FARKED!!!
-
I still think I'd rather stick with Pearson as an interim manager until July and then take Hitzfeld. Hitzfeld has been confirmed as being replaced so now would be the time to approach him.
-
a mentality shared by many newcastle fans. keep doing that, its worked great so far (assuming you were being sarcastic....) So how's saying nothing and supporting the manager working out for ya then...... goin' great is it?

HEY MONTY WE ARE A s*** MIDTABLE SIDE. No world class manager would ever walk into this mess. Simple as that really. Yep, your spot on. But why are we "a s*** midtable side"? I say, because we have had s*** midtable management, at the club and footballing level. Now, I am still prepared to say that I think Ashley and Mort could be a dramatic improvement in the management at the club level, but we are still hiring s*** midtable football managers. So, whats the remedy.... don't hire s*** midtable managers. Pretty simple really. There are plenty of clubs over the years, throughout the world, who have been strugglers but when the right club management offered the right conditions they brought in a quality football manager and turned their fortunes around. Managers will come to a club like ours if we offer the right package, the right transfer kitty and the right authority over the squad. So lets do that and stop being a s*** midtable club! Name an example of such a manager then. Well, arguably the most recent example would be Man City with Sven. Yeah, Sven struggled with England, but prior to that he had a very good record and since he joined Man City, who put in the right conditions, he's done really well by them. That was more down to chance that a manager of Sven's quality was unemployed. I see where you are coming from though. For us, unemployed high class managers are Lippi and I doubt the pressure here is his cup of tea. Sure, so lets put in an interim guy until the Summer and get the quality we need (and deserve). At least there wont be any expectations of the interim guy and we then have the time to really work on the management issue.

Would you rather have Strachan? Midtable side = Midtable manager. Yeah but the same goes for Spurs, City and Villa. They're mid-table clubs and they did not get "mid-table managers". By the way, I don't think you can compare O'Neill and Strachan, as O'Neills track record in England is much better. He won the League Cup at Leicester. Strachan sent Coventry down and played a big part in Southampton's relegation. steve mcclaren won the league cup...its hardly a headline on a cv...i'd rather a prospective manager just had decent consistent prem form than a league cup win But I don't think just "decent consistent prem form" is enough. We need some ambition and need someone with good consistent top-3 top-league form in one of the major European competitions. Someone who has consistently kept their club in the top 3 in one or more of Spain, Germany, Netherlands, France, Portugal. Surely of the 7 or so leading European competitions someone who has kept their club at or near the top consistently can be tempted by a 5mil per year pay packet. I doubt it. I don't think those kind of managers need the pressure, the money or the potential career ruining job. Its good for 'Arry as it is a potential step up, we are a sleeping giant and for him he was little to lose. I'm not deliberately trying to piss on your bonfire, just trying to be realistic Yeah, I get that.... but I think there are plenty of other clubs who's supporters heap even more pressure on their managers. Just look at some of the Spanish clubs and how nuts their supporters are. To a certain extent my cynicism over Harry extends to looking at this guy, 61 years of age, probably starting to dream of the quiet life, potentially looking to a club with a history like ours thinking he rides us for 6 months on a huge pay cheque, does shite, gets himself fired and ka-ching, retires on a nice nest-egg. (I know that ultra cynical, but thought I'd put it out there). I really do think now is the right time to push for a top-flight manager. We have new club management in place that has real business acumen, who is putting a whole new regime in place and who's entire purpose for owning the club relies on it being successful on the pitch. They are prepared to put up money, have consolidated the financial position of the club and are prepared to put the right conditions in place for the club to succeed. I think we could attract a top-flight manager if only we tried. I think to an extent the club is so down on itself its like the shy little boy who gets picked on hanging out at the local disco, he's got his hands in his pockets running his toe across the floor just praying not to be noticed, day-dreaming of getting it on with the hot blond chick with the big tits. But he's so chicken shite of asking her to dance that hes doomed to be left dancing with the fat chick with the 2nd hand polka-dot dress and the 1960's style braces. We need to grow some balls as a club and as supporters and demand the best!

I can't in good conscience select any of them. I'd now rather have an interim manager until the end of the season whilst putting in the conditions required to lock in a top-flight manager in the summer.

I will not support or back anything that is not aimed at lifting the fortunes of the club. Redknapp will not (I am convinced) achieve this, at best he'll consolidate us between 13th and 8th on the table. As such I will not support him nor back him. I will support my club the best way I know how by pointing out when we are doing something stupid. HEY EVERYONE..... WE'RE DOING SOMETHING MEGA-STUPID!!!!!!
-
Souness...Roeder...Allardyce...... and now Redknapp! So, exactly when are we supposed to get optimistic? For all three of Souness, Roeder and Allardyce we got behind them as supporters, we said to support the club, to be faithful we all have to get behind the new manager and give them a chance. In all 3 cases we knew they would likely be shite but that we should give them a chance to prove us wrong. Well, not again. I am totally convinced Redknapp will be shite, I am not prepared to give him time, to let him get settled. Why fool ourselves again, our collective ears are already overloaded with shite for having our heads up our arses for so long! We should support our club, do what we know is right and voice our opinions loud and clear from day one that this is not good enough. Why set ourselves up to be having this exact same conversation again in 6-12 months time? Why not -demand- the type of management capability we know we need to achieve anything? We know that a mediocre manager will make good players bad, but we also know that a good manager will make mediocre players good. We know what we need, we need a high quality manager with demonstrated experience at the top flights of football, someone proven to maintain top 3 positions in one or more of the major European competitions. So lets demand that, lets not sit idly by and watch our club slip further in to oblivion, lets get the message across that mid-table managers are not acceptable at our club, lets get United, lets stand up and tell the owner to find quality or fuck off! Your club needs you to stand up, to voice an opinion and to not meekly sit on the sidelines and hope. If you accept mediocrity you will receive mediocrity! Have some ambition, aim for a higher outcome and demand the management to get us there!
-
One of the problems I foresee for a new, mediocre manager (i.e. a Redknapp instead of a Hiddink) is the players know it is more likely the manager will get fired than the players getting fired. As a result instead of seeing a jump in performance, like a new manager normally brings, as people vie for favor, our players have all seen this 2 or 3 times before so they're more likely to just treat it as the same-ol'-same-ol'.

We need to change the theme music at the ground to "Another One Bites the Dust."
-
So why let it last that long... why delay the inevitable (or the very likely), why not just get on with it and try and make the nightmare stop? With respect to booing making us look like a laughing stock, I think we've already set new standards for that. We're already such a joke, booing isn't going to change much. At least we'd look like we had some clue as to the type of manager we don't need.
