The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Frank in at Tottenham
toontownman replied to cp40's topic in Football
Villa will likely spend again in January and already have a squad good enough to survive. It would be the implosion of all implosion if Gerrard took them down. I'm here for it, unless we go down with them! (With apologies to Brummie, gut says they will stay up with ease if that helps) -

Think Gerrard got itchy feet with the speculation over the past month and mentally jumped. Villa is an ambitious club with a solid squad. Really interesting to see how he and Lampard do. I don't think either appointment helps us but both have a chance of being a disaster while they could be a great success. Given the league another layer of interest though. -
I think we will try and get a fullback, centre back, central midfielder, striker/winger and maybe double up on at least one of those positions depending on what Howe and his team can get from players. I think Trippier is a strong possibility, IF a top 6 club doesn't want him. Maitland-Niles could be a possibility too. Not convinced Sule has any intention of coming here, he would be beastly though. Tarkowski or Ake on loan seems likely for CB, maybe even a sneaky Lloyd Kelly addition with one of those. Boubacar Kamara would be fantastic and someone we have tracked a few years, I am not sure now is the time to bring someone new to the league. Lerma will be an obvious link. Bellingham would be the top of my list but we are two seasons away from getting that kind of a young hyped player imo. I would take Dele Alli here in a shot too. Could be a great move for him under Howe, likewise Loftus-Cheek. Sarr or Zaha would be fantastic but I don't see either club being interested in dealing with us. Eddie Nketia might be an interesting option. He isn't getting a look in at Arsenal this year. Hudson-Odoi maybe. All have great pace. There are plenty of good domestic options, if clubs will deal with us, likewise in the championship. I would be surprised if we were to be gambling with many signings outside of the UK with the predicament we are in. Pretty sure we will go for premiership experience and potential.

It was mentioned in the new owners list of priorities. I searched for a thread for the team as I am sure there was one but ended up setting up a thread of its own.

Est. 1989 Home: Druid Park, Woolsington Manager: Becky Langley Current League: National League Division One North Current League Table https://www.nufc.co.uk/teams/nuw-team/ https://www.facebook.com/NUWFCOfficial Amongst the myriad of other things to be excited about, I am really interested to see the potential ascent of our Womens team and will be following. They are currently sat 2nd in the National League Division One North (4th Tier of Womens football in the UK) so it will be a long term rise to get to the Super League but the ownership talked about it from day one as being a priority. I have no idea if there are FFP rules as to how we might build the team to get up the leagues quickly. Also whether we will see the team eventually move into SJP, a new training facility or Whitley Park. The womens game has changed so much for the better over he past decade and a half. Looking forward to us having a strong team in future years.

Fingers crossed. Seems like a very solid hire who knows the league very well.

Bad news for us. Think Gerrard will give them enough of a lift this season. -

Watched it last night. It's a good 47 mins in fairness. Good lads those three Bournemouth supporters and some nice perspective.

Quality stuff after a LONG day!

Hard to understand the concept of concepts. Ritchie and Longstaff were buzzing, the former especially, like Christmas, excited fist bumps to a reticent Willock.. "Okay, okay we get it, your'e happy your dad is taking over."
-
Fitness seems to be his biggest issue. I think he could be a useful sub, maybe more if he stays injury free.
-
A lot of conjecture but wouldn't be surprised if we tried something different with him. A DM he is not though imo. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/radical-joelinton-solution-eddie-howe-22109767

Could have sat and watched 3 hours of that! Ritchie and Longstaff clearly buzzing. Keeping Fraser out of shots because he told Scotland he was injured lol
-
Not injured then. Just some sucking up from the "wee man".

That all depends on the opponents and type of game imo. If it opens up and there is space and time Shelvey can be an asset. If we have enough of an offensive threat that can make the opposition defend maybe we can open up some of that space. Brighton tired badly in the second half, which is where Shelvey started to remember what he was capable of. If he does nothing the rest of the game and mince around creating more work and space for those around him to have to cover then he isn't worth it. The likes of Longstaff, Almiron and Hayden haven't had a chance because they are covering some much ground for Jonjo. He can up his game though. There was a great period under Rafa where it looked like he could start back on the journey to fulfilling his potential. Workrate was high, lots of tackling and dangerous in possession. It just never lasted though. I expect something similar, so wouldn't be surprised if he gets time on the pitch under Howe. At least until January, if not the summer.
-
Will pull his finger out like he normally does and did under Rafa. Doubt we have seen the last of him yet. Will be back to not arsed by the summer and hopefully out then.
-
Perfect. Just when I start work. No work getting done tomorrow either then
-
Rafa rated him as someone he could mould into a top player, he just said it was a hard no at the price. Like most of the rest of the promise, Lewis/Longstaffs.. might just be too far gone.
-
Will be a bath of baked beans in January imo. Getting the players with the right attitude for the fight will be more important than the Ramsey/Hazard type links who could stink up the dressing room Howe is trying to create. Should be interesting to see where we can go!
-
Shelvey will outlast them all. Will be playing well into his 40's with the lack of wear and tear and how he has protected his body in games ?
-
Sule would be a massive statement of intent, literally. Feel he might be in the leverage camp to get a better deal at this club. Probably zero actual interest in coming here, despite lots of noise in the press the past few weeks. Kamara seems a no brainer but could definitely see Howe going for players just with premiership experience in Jan like Lerma instead. Probably makes sense. Ake on loan, or Tarkowski seem likely imo. Can't see us signing anyone pre contract when we will likely be in a relegation battle.

One more hit for those getting tremors and sweats awaiting the inevitable NUFCtv interviews tomorrow.. Howe on mental health in football and his career as a player/manager. Good watch.
