Very interesting. I think what people forget is that sport isn't an "efficient market" in any way. The amount of spending does have a correlation to success, but the link is much stronger at the top of the market (i.e. the top 4 or 5 clubs in the Prem) than in the middle. In the middle, it's better to be smart than to overspend. I'm not entirely convinced we are smart, but some of the deals we've done suggest we might be. It is a hard tactic for football fans to get behind though, especially ours, because we're so used to solving our problems with big-money signings. On the face of it some of our signings do seem smart, but any goodwill goes out of the window withn a lack of a striker which was obvious to all that we were desperate for. Surely Ashley is smart enough to see this? Which makes me think he's taking the p*ss. Yeah, but I think it's more that he sticks ruthlessly to his idea of not being overcharged by a club or a player, and that overrides everything else. The club probably knew how much we needed another striker, but Ashley wouldn't change his policy because of that. Probably right. How far do you take it though. On the face of it, it does seem sensible, especially when clubs know that you've made very good money in the transfer market, but there is being a tough negotiatior and being a twat and it looks like our board are being twats. Its hard to believe that a man who has made good money and done very well in buisness can't see paying slightly over the odds for a player may in the long run make us more money.

I think we have got a decent squad, but a really good striker and having another some cover for LB and CB would make us a good to very good squad.

I would agree with your estimate from Ba, Best and Cabaye. We'll probably get around 6 from defence and I doubt we'll get that from both wingers and Tiote combined. As for not letting in many, so far we've played 3 teams who are playing s*** and have amassed 4 points between them and scored the same number of goals, I think people are getting carried away with our results so far. I am shitting myself, yes I am chuffed we have 7 points at the moment, but we have been poor and could have lost all of the games really. Arsenal on another day would have scored a couple, Sunderland started really well, and God knows what would have happened if they scored 1st and Fulham also started well. Maybe we can be positive and say even though we've been average at best we've still got results but this could be a long hard season, what happens if Colo gets fucked I don't even want to think about.

He was gash when he was at sunlan'. But if he's been released by Blackburn and Rangers don't want him then surely that speaks for itself. Sign him and put him and Smith in a room together playing some techno music? Then after 24 hours throw in a ham sandwich and Loven, see what happens

Fuck I really need to stop being sad and stop watching SSN now, I still have that faint hope that David Craig will get all excited and announce Newcastle have done a deal under the radar, all I hear is James Fucking Beattie has been released. I hope that we don't go for him, it would be crying shame if he makes Vuckic & Sameobi drop down the pecking order.
-
Oh Fuck, James Beattie has been released, he is a free agent. I've always seen him in a Newcastle shirt, hope I am wrong. Fuck!

Even though I really dislike Stoke, we can't really question the whole clubs approach since promotion. The are a very solid Premiership team, yes they are a horrible club to watch but they are effective. Palacios and Crouch improves them a lot. Woodgate could be the bargain of the window but I'd be surprised if he puts in 20+ performances this season, even 10-20 would be a result for Pulis. They look a very solid team again and if Crouch and Palacios can rediscover their top form could press for 7th place finish.

I have been one of the more patient fans in all of this and have been willing to put a positive spin on a lot thats gone on since January, however, if we really wanted to sign a striker he would have been here along with Cabaye and them lot. Ok, I am willing to forgive them losing out on Gameiro and Gervinho, but we should have had a list of strikers at that stage and when those deals failed they didn't have a clue. Maybe Erdinc was on the list as well but after that it was clutching at straws. If we ever wanted Ruiz why didnt we make the move a lot earlier not when he has nearly signed for another team. I haven't read the whole thread, but i really wouldn't be able to understand anyone defending the board on not signing a striker. This is poor. Yes, there are clubs in a worse position to us at the moment, however, they may have an excuse for it, we didn't, the funds are there to be used, the club is still attractive to players. I'll be dissapointed if Pardew tows the club line, of course he'll tow the line but it will be refreshing to hear him say they have dropped the ball on this one. Losing Nolan, Barton & even to a lesser extent Enrique I can forgive but not bringing in a striker I can't. We needed someone like Ba when we had Carroll so the day Carroll left we needed two strikers. The thought that Loven will get a load of game time is depressing. I like the guy, he has given us a decent service since he has been at the club, but I wouldn't bat an eyelid if he gets injured if it means Vuckic and Sammy get a chance infront of him. The only ounce of positivity I can spin on this is maybe Vuckic and Sammy may get some more game time, they look promising and maybe we will unearth a gem with them. However, its a massive gamble the board are taking. Sorry for the long post. I'm gutted.

He's a cunt mind. Naming Cahill, I know thats what everyone has been saying but he can't be doing that shit. Saggy face prick. Right Mrs Tisd09 is demanding to watch something other than Sawyer's tits and my laptop.
-
The SSN guy is getting fans to block the fucker.
-
Right I'm going to watch Dexter for an hour now, I hope to fuck for the sake of peace in my house (my 3 year old is sleeping) and the safety of my laptop that something remotely interesting will be happening regarding a striker.
-
I'd be more than happy with this if we had a f***ing f***ing striker in. Need striker - lets sign a f***ing keeper and a f***ing cente half. Even Natalie Sawyer isn't making this sweeter for me, even though she looks damn hot in the orange clingy dress.
-
It could be worse, our big signing could be Yakubu, like Blackburn.
-
Is he any good, seems kneejerktastic to me. But I know less than feck all about Finnish football.
-
Fuck me this is frustrating. Ive been fairly disciplined today. I've been really busy so haven't been on this forum much pressing F5, so I thought I would be pleasantly surprised a few times as I've only checked back now and them but all I get is this shit. I feel sorry for you feckers that have been hitting F5 since you got up. I hate transfer deadline day and even worse its making me hate Georgie at the moment, and that is unacceptable.

I must admit, I too am a pussy, a sharted when I see Jonas list at the top of the page. You can't do that Disco, we are all on the bring of being sectioned.

Any of our fans willing to go to the airport?? I would like but I'm in work and I'm in Swansea??
-
Nice smile though.

Don't let Joey see you say that.

FYI Sorry couldn't help myself

I imagine this is what Pardew is thinking: "Hmmm, no wedding ring. It's all good, I'll just shag his mom." Look at those smiles. No wonder Pardew wanted to sign him. aye, he must have a bonnie mam. I reckon Pardew shagged his Mum about 21 years ago Forward planning. This Pardew seems canny. We'll be calling him the cerebral assassin before long.
-
Don't worry Ikon, thats in the very capable hands of Dezza don't you know.

I'm of the opposite opinion, I think he'll perform like he did against Villa away I think?? Just after he said something about being the best midfielder around and was captain for the day, he run around like a headless chicken trying to prove something and had one of his worse games last season for us. I hope he plays cack like, can you imagine him having a MOM performance, I don't think he would be dignified in victory. I really hope Tiote and Cabaye do a number on him and run him ragged. Not that I like the Wolves and Karl Henry tactic but I think Cabaye should try and legally smash him as soon as possible, I think that would wind Joey right up.
