I'm pissed that our name has been dragged through the mud here. Both sides deserve a portion of blame. Barton is no angel in all of this but it could have been handled better. This is all a joke, we had a perfect oppourtunity to push on this season and put up a fight for Europe. None of us demanded or expected £35 million to be spent on players. I'm assuming selling a player for £35 million was not in the 5 year business plan so surely some of that cash could have been spent properly. We are a couple of decent players away from going from relegation candidates/mid tabe team to mid table team/EL challengers. I don't think Barton or Nolan for that matter are innocent in all of this but there is certainley an agenda by management here.

This club! Always a drama, I really hope the rumours aren't true. Barton has been silly with his comments against the club but surely it will be easier for the club to ban twitter than releasing Joey on a free. We're really in a position to release players for sod all aren't we. We are short of bodies anyway and letting go one of our more talented players is no way to go about things.

Bridge would be a good option for Pardew. He has a history of another player biffing his missus, Pardew sees a golden opportunity. Playing wise I don't want him unless it's a choice between him and Perchy.

Would much rather see him remain at the club over Shola, Loven & Xisco but as others have pointed out, he is the easiest to move on. If we could get Xisco off the books and somehow sell Shola for £1 million or 2 then it would make the club more than selling Best for £3-£4million

I don't get the attitude because he hasn't signed yet he doesn't really want to be with us so he'll end up another Owen. Just think in the real world if we had similar wage offers from 3 different companies all in different situations I think I would take my time deciding what is the best move. Galatasaray would be attractive to him given its his home country, Lille would also be attractive as he is still in France where he has spent the last few years, then its to go abroad into the unknown with Newcastle. Not forgetting the other two clubs offering European football, however, The Premier League being a bigger attraction than the Turkish or French Leagues. There is a lot to weigh up for him with any of the clubs involved. I think its unfair to say he's not interested just because this is taking time to sort out. I can't think of too many other candidates in our price bracket so I am glad that we seem to be patient with this guy rather than panic and spunk our money on someone like Cole.

Nothing wrong with the place IMO. Damn road works are a problem but overall not too bad a place. I've never lived anywhere else though so not really a great judge. Theres enough going on to keep Routledge out of trouble. Scott Sinclair is from London and he seems happy enough in the city. They just have to watch out for mad Mary and teabag, they can be a nuisance.

How do you know what is going to happen in a couple of months time. Don't get me wrong I'll be seriously gutted and annoyed if Enrique is sold late in the window and we get the line "too late in the day to get a replacement" but not many club have been that active, just because Liverpool and Man Utd are throwing their cash around doesnt mean that we are that far behind then in terms of preparation for the new seasons as far as bringing in recruits. Obviously Gameiro was a set back but I would prefer us to get the right striker in rather than a knee jerk reaction. Real football is not football manager where we just switch to the next guy who has 20 finishing. I'm no apologist for the club but I am prepared to wait and see, not that it matters, whether I am prepare or not there is fuck all I can do about it. I can understand the frustrations. By the way what does cameo striker mean when signing Ba?

Good post. What's annoying me regarding the spending of the money is not that I believe it should be spent for the sake of it, but that I believe we are in an ideal position to push on and really make an impact in the Premier League this upcoming season. We did far better than most expected this time around, to me we should be building on that rather than merely consolidating. I believe the Carroll money gives us the perfect opportunity to bring forward any plans we had for pushing up the league in the future - assuming we had any. The point about bringing forward plans is excellent. They had a 5 year plan or whatever it was and I can't imagine that Ashley thought at the start of the plan we would get £35 million for one player. I don't think anyone is expecting the whole lot to be spent or do I think it needs to be spent. But we are a few good signings away from a push for a Europa league place. As it stands I believe our strongest 11 are able to push for that but we all know its a long hard season with injuries and suspensions to deal with, I just don't think our squad can carry us to Europe at the moment.

By the looks of it this guy could become a cult hero for us if he starts knocking in the goals. I like his positive attitude and given the knock backs he's had in his career he seems a but of a grafter. So for the signs are positive for him.

Does he have to spend the whole £35 million? As long as good investments and improvements to the squad have been made I don't really care how much is spent. At the moment we are not much of an improvement on last season. I think on paper Cabaye looks and upgrade on Nolan, Marveaux adds a bit of numbers to the wide players and is possible a better option than Routledge with Ba as long as he stays fit being better than any of the strikers we ended the season with. Its a gamble to count on Ben Arfa and Gosling as new players given their injuries last season but if we can get them playing anywhere near their best then it will mean an improvement to our team and squad. If we can keep Barton & Enrique and bring in Taylor, Zoggy and Sturridge I would be more than happy with that. ( I know that Zoggy and Sturridge are unlikely at the moment, but you couldn't rule out the possibility)!

Yeah, it's nearly July, time to give up, they'll be no more money spent. Funny how we are being linked with all of these quality names and after weeks of speculation we begin to find out that we aren't in the race. Some people would suggest there is a pattern there, though I agree that the time to judge will be at the end of August. It does seem we were in for Gameiro and just lost out to a more attractive prospect to him. Even though our interest may not have been as concrete with Gervinho I would like to believe at very least we were interested. The Sturridge links and denials have all been media based so we can't really charge the club with that one. We have been spoiled completing 3 (on the face of it) good deals before the window has even officially opened. I have no doubt that players will be brought in before the season kicks off (hopefully they will be quality ones).

Done deal whoooo hoooooooooooooooooooo Just kidding, would be chuffed if we pull that one off, if we got Sturridge, Ba with Best and Apple Eating Superstar as our strikers next season I would be well happy. Move Smith on replace him with a good midfielder, sign Jose & Joey on new contracts and its not far off a perfect transfer summer! We'll maybe a top notch centre half but thats just being greedy!

This worrying from Brown and Southall about losing the National team, but can FIFA actually force a GB team, if this is the case and they combine the FA's surely they'd have to combine the domestic leagues as well. I can't see how FIFA can force a GB team. If this was something really to worry about I'm sure the English FA would have major issues with it as well, seeing as they would be effected the most as its their team that qualifies more often than not for these competitions. I'd be proud to watch some Welsh players represent Britain at the olympics as I am proud of Welsh athletes who are part of the olympic team, I naturally would support a Welsh athlete over English/Scottish/N Irish athelete even though they are part of the same team.
