I don't really think Messi v Zidane is that much of a discussion tbh. Messi is in the bracket above IMO, but telling me that Iniesta has been more key for club and country than Zidane is absolutely ridiculous.
-
No. Just no. So how did Zidane only manage 1 league title and 1 CL in his 5 years at Madrid during the galacticos era? Both have won their country World Cups and Iniesta has more Euro Championships. If that's your argument, going by statistics then I really don't have an answer for you.

No. Just no.

Hit with as much skill as a Fred special

Dat free-kick though

According to newspaper El Mercurio Pellegrini rejected an approach from CBF to manage the Brazilian national side. Think it's bullshit per usual and I think in national team football the manager should be from the country he's going to manage (at least in my team, don't care what others do).

You're more of an England fan than a Germany fan, aren't you? Yeah, sure. Was supporting Germany in the final but I didn't go crazy or anything. Still, great scenes all over the country and nice to see Löw proving his critics wrong. Are you German though? Doesn't make any sense really, if you're German why would you support England? Yes I am. Well, no I suppose it doesn't really make sense tbf. Thing is, I don't care as much about international football as I do about club football. (Attending games etc..) - I just love watching the games. At the World Cup (or EURO) I started supporting England a bit which obviosuly came through supporting Newcastle more than 10 years back. But as I said, it's not a "hardcore super fan" thing or something.

...who having maintained that Brazil would support Argentina in the end because South Americans stick together, promptly celebrated them losing the final. Didn't I say that Argentina would be the only team no one would support? I was actually cheering for Argentina until we were beaten tbf.

Except I'm a Brazilian citizen. It was a genuine question, I don't know if maybe on of his parents is English or his connection to England. Always thought he was pure German which makes it interesting, especially now that they've won the WC

Fuck off. They're not even in the god damn CL.

Ya just looked up some quotes of his, he is a genius really in terms of football. Beckenbauer is mental though How exactly is Beckenbauer mental man?
-
Is Beckenbauer and Cruyff informed enough to make that decision? Because none of them think of Messi ahead of Maradona or Pele.
-
I never saw Pele live but ive seen enough of him on film and listened to countless men whose knowledge I respect to make a decent enough judgment. The first time I saw Maradona he was 18 and tearing apart a fair Scottish side at Hampden. I've seen him many times and indeed saw him play at Wembley in 87. Fair enough on Maradona so, if you saw both him and Messi play and think Maradona was better then fair enough. On Pele, what was his club career like? I know he scored loads of goals but were Santos winning a lot at the time or what was their situation? Santos under Pele was the best club in the world in the early 60's.

Tracy McGrady mkII.

The thing is everyone who saw Pele said he was better than Maradona and Messi, everyone who saw Maradona says he's better than Messi. Many who have only seen Messi believes him to be the best. Like I've said, Messi is the best I've seen at his peak, but I'm not going to doubt persons who have played the game and understands the game far better than me who says the other two were superior.

Oh, then I agree At full speed and the ball to his feet is just amazing.

Zidane on his day I believe was even harder to take the ball away from tbf. Zidane was the master of protecting a football. There's a swedish player who played for Bari and said he spent 90minutes marking Zidane, because even if his team had the ball the manager wanted Zidane marked because if he got hold of it, it was impossible to get it back no matter where on the pitch. But I still believe Messi is a better player because he has really performed at a peak for so many years. It's been half a decade of dominating most players.
-
Zidane was a joy to watch tbf. But I'd still have Messi above him. He was, I absolutely loved him and he's up there as one of the best ever. It shouldn't be something to laugh about when being compared to another player, but I think it is in this case. Can't disagree with that. Still the most entertaining player I've seen (not best!) is Ronaldinho in his prime. Every week it felt like he was inventing something new.

For players born there, then yes, but Messi is from Argentina, one of the greatest football nations and who over the last 10 years have had players in abundance and yet failed to win anything except a silly Olympic gold. So yes he has ''failed'' at international level. That's still unfair in some ways, Messi could have been born when other Argentina players were average, yet a Spanish player could have been born in a golden era of Spanish players therefore having the advantage and platform to perform. Just imo like. not to mention Messi was an adult in the era of that brilliant, dominant Spanish side, and now this fantastic German side. In '86, Maradona had a good team, and did carry them at times, but he was also a bit lucky that he didn't have to face the two most talented sides in the tournament (both of whom were very unlucky, and played each other in one of the best games I have ever seen): France and Brazil. Exactly, the World Cup is too narrow a field to judge it by imo. By the way this is no defence of Messi, just a point i'm making in general. I respect that, but for me and many others the World Cup is the biggest stage of them all, the stage where the greatest of all times all played above their levels and won no matter who the opposition were. I see Messi as the best of his generation, but like I said how can he be considered the best of all times if he won't even be considered the best to play for his country? I for one thought he was resting for the World Cup, but it's quite clear something isn't right, while HTT is a bit harsh I agree with a lot having watched every Barcelona game this season.
