Be interesting to see if there is any of the linked names (managers) in the crowd tonight.
-
My number one choice wasn't an option.
To quickly identify faults in own or opponents tactics and capitalise by changing to take advantage.
Tactical nous.
-
And a good signing for them, good signing for almost anybody.

I am not pointing the finger at anyone but at the moment is seems the cool thing to do is knock Shearer. If he was asked the same questions and remained in silence he would still get criticised. We all know he wants to manager the club at some point and if someone is willing to offer him the job why should he turn it down, do you think he should turn it down and say well actually I'd rather cut my teeth at Bury first as they are looking for a new manager?
It's the manner in which he has done it and the timing.
Shearer says in his own piece. "They're looking for someone with experience, which rules me out." (paraphrasing)
That is, by the rules, Shearer is inelligible. Then he says he would do the job, which all of us already new he would, at some stage, want to. But the timing of this piece is all wrong as is its manner.
I will stake everything I own on the fact that neither Ashley or Mort will be pleased with this on the back page of the Sun today.
-
It also piles more unnecessary pressure on whoever does get the job. Many of the fans would be thinking, "Shearer could have had this job", every time something goes wrong.
Creates a negative feeling for the new regime in those same supporters minds. "Should have been Shearer but they got that fuckwit, ZeManager instead!"
All in all it doesn't seem beneficial for Newcastle United at this time.
-
They will chant for Shearer, especially if it doesn't go our way.
Yep, but the last thing you should do, assuming you are sane, is listen to mob rule.

Didier Deschamps
Flattered: Didier Deschamps is favourite to become manager
The odds on Deschamps, 39, taking the helm at St James' Park plunged from 80-1 to 2-1 yesterday although suggestions the former Monaco and Juventus manager was already flying to Tyneside for talks with Newcastle's billionaire owner, Mike Ashley, were wide of the mark.
Are all journalists taught that as a stock phrase or is Oliver moonlighting under another name?
-
To be honest, the worst thing about Desailly is the commitment issue - will he hang around for long, and will he work with our academy.
Not another favourite?
Eh?

"Souness takes over againI hate it when the number of users tips the server over. I always think something has happened.
:( [pages: 1 2 .. 41355 41356]"
Don't even joke about it.
Page numbers looked realistic enough though if it did happen..
-
So do people prefer the promise of good football over a proven winner?
Oh yeah..
-
Wonder what fantasy he is typing right now regarding Deschamps as the new favourite for the job.
-
The water-carrier comments was sour grapes from a bruised ego after Deschamps had recieved plaudits from the French press regarding his contribution to the national side.
-
A couple of interesting points in this article about both Deschamps and Houllier.

I'd like to be excited but quite a few of our French connections have failed badly.
Somebody please convince me that this will be different to Rangers who were also excited about Le Guen.
Only thing I could say is at least Deschamps knows English (British) football. Don't believe le Guen had a clue except for what he might have seen on telly.
-
If the first thing he does is bring in two players that can thread a pass he'll get my undying support.
(Edit: Moncur is frequently found to say things that prove he doesn't have his finger anywhere near the pulse of your average Geordie.)

Oliver uses the telephone as a literary device more often than J. D. Salinger.
he must be extra grateful to people to who fix telephones then
-
Houllier favourite in the betting now.
-
Houllier is sacked after 1 year in Newcastle...
Look at all the s*** he bought in Liverpool....
....and won 6 trophies with.
-
No spik Inglez?
-
Houllier's transfer record is absolutely abysmal in English football - compare it to Mark Hughes (who i'm not overly excited about either and it's ludicrous).
Cheyrou
Salif Diao
Sinima Pongolle (and that other lad who came with him)
Smicer
Cisse
Traore
He wasted so much on those players as well, they weren't cheap buys. He made allardyce look like a genius!
Can someone please prove me wrong with a list of all the decent players he brought to Liverpool (under 35, so Litmanen and McCallister don't count!) and kept there (failing to secure anelka when they had him on loan, another error). I'm genuinely asking here, as i'd like to have my mind changed if it's likely he'll come in

Houllier quotes from 2004
Houllier admits his decision to join Lyon this summer was swayed by not facing the task of rebuilding the club the way he had to with Liverpool."I don't think I would have had the strength to do with Lyon what I did with Liverpool," he added.
"When I signed there, after Shankly, (Bob) Paisley, (Joe) Fagan, (Kenny) Dalglish or (Graeme) Souness, people started to hear the name Houllier and it was a cultural shock for them.
"I totally changed the club's approach and way of working and Benitez is the first one
to admit it.
"I had three objectives when I joined: winning trophies, have an influence on the club in terms of style and make the players progress.
"In the end we won six trophies and we got the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League four times.
"We created new facilities and re-did everything from scratch.
"As far as the players' progression is concerned, (Michael) Owen was voted European Player of the Year and a lot more reached new heights in their careers.
"But now I must say I would not have the strength to rebuild a club again. That is why (Lyon president Jean-Michel) Aulas' comparison of his club with a Formula one car suited me.
"The club is already on the right track, there is a quality team. The key is to jump into the car and drive it fast."
If he's a genuinely interested contender I guess he's changed his mind about the bold comment.
-
All sounds almost professional, except perhaps this bit - 'However, we are not currently a Champions League team, and in six seasons out of the last ten we have finished in the bottom half of the Premier League.'
That shouldn't be a detractor but a positive. We should have done better and with you at the helm we would have done - and now will if you come on board. Saying we can't get a top manager because we haven't achieved as much as we could have hardly seems apt somehow.

Bolton have yet to win away from home this season, they've scored 7 goals in those 10 games. They just lost Anelka.
Keegan has returned.
