You tell me? What deal was that? End of last season Hughton saying we had an 'advantage' over everybody else knowing what our future was meaning we could prepare early for bringing people in. Yet we're now seemingly behind in terms of recruitment... We've brought in three players, if Ben Arfa signed tomorrow would you still say we were behind? If... I'd still say we'd be behind in terms of improving the team. The way it stands we've only got 1 new player who is fit and ready to go and he's seemingly very average. We're no further forward from last season and the way we stand we're going to really struggle. I'm not panicking about it because ultimately there is nothing we can do, but that doesn't mean I can't point the blame at the management for failing to strengthen at all before the first game. Behind who then? What Ben Arfa can offer has been our biggest weakness by a country mile for ages now, he could potentially improve us hugely. Also campbell will be fit 2nd or third game, and he'll improve the defence a hell of a lot IMO.

something really doesn't add up about that does it? he's at the french champions, can go to other teams who'll have better domestic campaigns than us and he'll not get an increase in wages yet he wants to come to us hm.... Its pretty obvious, he wasn't to play in the Premiership, he wants to showcase what he can do and you don't showcase yourself in the French, German or Portuguese leagues.

I don't really know what wages he's on (£30-£40k?), but there's no way we're going to let the contract of one of our top players run out because he doesn't fit into our new wage limit. That's IF there even is one which I don't believe anyway.

Yes you're wrong.

When did they get money to burn like?, and from where? EDIT: Ah right I get it

Ben Arfa's goal record is around a goal every 5 games, Gutierrez record is a goal every 24 games

This news doesn't change anything so I don't know why the thread titles been changed. The Marseille president said they had accepted our offer and we just needed to talk to the player. What he's said today doesn't contradict that. He's just denied that the deal has been completed.
-
I'd love to see some of the reaction on here if it did happen
-
Just what's been in the papers since really. President of Marseille says they've accepted a 800k Euro loan deal from us and we're supposed to be meeting them today, he said the deal should be done by Tuesday or Wednesday.

We finished above West Brom in the relegation season and ahead of them again last season, since then they haven't improved more then us, I'd absolutely expect to finish above them (even if we didn't sign the likes of Ben Arfa).

Right, fair doos. Fingers crossed. If this deal works out exactly as the title suggests, it's a seriously fucking good signing. We'll have seriously pulled the rabbit out of the hat with this one if it comes off. Would be an amazing deal IMO, still not sure if we'll really pull it off. I just hope the people in charge realise just how good a deal this can be and don't waste a moment in getting everything sorted, because to miss out on it would be sickening.

EDIT: Didn't read the earlier post. I'd imagine he means the lack of any denial from Hughton suggests we're in for him, not that we really need that considering all the other info.

so if the power was in your hands who would you hire to replace him? Maybe Martin jol. For me if the manager picks the right team a result can be blamed on the players, for me hughton often selects the wrong team, ir Guthrie on the right and that will be found out this season The same Martin Jol who turned down the UEFA League finalist Fulham to stay at Ajax (2nd in Eredivise)? No seriously, who would you hire to be the manager? Uefa finalist with no hope what so ever of doing better then they already had.
-
Best thing they could do is get him somewhere to live in Newcastle.
-
Decent run out, had we been treating the game as seriously as Rangers I doubt we'd have lost it.
-
Some of you need to get a grip

Perch was nowhere to be seen, Enrique would have snuffed that out.

For every player that's gone on to do better elsewhere theirs plenty of others that haven't. For instance Parker to West Ham, even in the same transfer window and to the same team you have Dyer and Solano..
