I don't feel he has earned the right to manage next year as he's only managed one season in the Championship with a good set of players for that level! I wouldn't base any decisions on one season and for what it's worth at the first sign of trouble next year I would be calling for his head as I'd rather get it over with as soon as possible, rather than let it drag on like it did under Souness and Roeder where you knew from the beginning that it was never going to work. Before people have ago at that attitude, at the first sign of trouble next year what reason would I have for thinking he could turn it around? I also view NUFC as a big club worthy of someone much better than Hughton, someone with a track record where it wouldn’t be such a gamble, simple as that really!! I find it embarrassing that a club like Fulham could have a much better manager than Newcastle and yet get half our gate! Reading some of the threads on here, I can’t believe how far some people’s ambitions and expectations have fell.

Voted for him to go as there are too many uncertainties concerning CH as we have never seen him build a team or deal in the transfer market, you cannot go off one season in the Championship. Seen people like Ferguson and Wenger mentioned as unknowns went they went to Arsenal and Man U, they weren’t unknowns after what they had done at Monaco and Aberdeen! Even going off someone like Moyles at Everton, he had a few seasons at Preston to assess his abilities. I also believe most fans know that he’s not up to the job but believe he “deserves a go” but we’ve been here with Souness and Roeder where everyone from the beginning knew how it was going to work out but we gave them the benefit of the doubt anyway. At the first sign of trouble next year people will start to call for Hughton to go as there will be no reason to think that he will turn things around as he has no history. Hughton was also not a big player so he doesn’t bring anything to the club with regards to attracting players and commanding respect from that point of view. If I was Ashley I’d go all out for Roy Hodgson or a similar sort from abroad to manage the club. I refuse to believe that if Ashley is serious about taking the club forward that he couldn’t attract a manager of that calibre. For a club that will get close to 52,000 fans next season we deserve a lot better than Hughton! Any owner who would give the job to Hughton after one season in the Championship really hasn't got the first clue about football!

Solano can't love Newcastle if he puts his family before us! Can you read? Look at what I wrote, he didn't stay long in London so I doubt his family were the reason for moving!
-
Not sure why some people think Solano loves Newcastle, we had all this sentimental rubbish when he left us the last time because he was only doing it to be with his wife in London when in truth he probably wanted away for one last pay day as he didn't stay in London for long! Haven't got the book at hand but Bobby Robson wasn't too impressed by his attitude, I'm sure he mentions seeing Solano leaving a match early after he got subbed or something for Villa against Boro. The very fact Robson mentioned that would say that he didn't think too highly of him as he could have used plenty of other players as an example. All this just reminds me of when Lee Clark re-signed and people wonder why Newcastle are such a joke of a club!

I actually don't think Dalglish ruined the entertainers as the only one he got rid of was Ginola and I would have done the same! What a lot of people overlook is that one of the greatest if not the greatest Newcastle player ever was over the hill once Dalglish took over in Beardsley. Any team would suffer after losing a player like Beardsley! Ferdinand and Asprilla left under Dalglish didn't they? Fair point about Asprilla but again he wasn't effective in the league, I would also say the decision to sell Ferdinand was made by the board

I wouldn't even say a season and a half, after he got sent off at Highbury (not sure when that was but it was the first season) he never seemed the same player again!

I'm all for protesting which I have been advocating for a long time but I'm not too sure what staying behind would achieve or even protests before the match? At the end of the day the only thing that will force Ashley/make him take notice is if people stopped going to the match. He doesn't care what the fans think which has been proved many times!
-
Serious question, when is it a good time to protest? People were saying we shouldn't protest last season as we were in a relegation battle and now people are saying we shouldn't protest because we are in with a chance of promotion! No time is a good time to protest at the club but enough is enough, pressure needs to be put on Ashley!
-
I imagine/hope he'll sell if we go up. Theres been no reason to suggest he wouldnt, all he's shown is that he isnt willing to further drop the price he wants for the club. If someone had offered what he wanted he'd already be gone, there just wasnt enough interest. There will be if we go up. Having said that, i also expect he'll draw it out over the summer and waste a lot of the transfer window as usual. But that doesnt change much. You do realise that he's pretty much been trying to sell the club since he bought without success which would include our time in the Premiership! Does he really want to sell? I'm for anything that hits Ashley in the pocket as it will not harm the club one bit as regardless of whether the fans turn up or not he'll: sell any decent players (struggling to think of any!) Rename the stadium Appoint a cheap disposable manager If Ashley is serious about waiting for us to get promoted and then sell at a higher price then by any logic he would spend around about £10mill in January that would virtually guarantee promotion which he would recoup! Somehow I can’t see it happening, can you?
-
Agree 100% and for me there are something’s more important than what happens on the field! This club means too much to too many people to let Ashley walk all over us! Let’s have pride in ourselves as a set of fans and say enough is enough! I've said it before I'd take admin and relegation to get rid of this bloke! It's just a drip drip drip story of bad news off the field! I'd love for him to go and to get back to talking about the football again and at the end of the day I'm not that bothered what league we would be in for that to happen! One other thing as an outsider has anything really changed by his announcement? Still the status quo as far as I'm concerned in that he would still sell if he could or and I don't know what he has some other motive for keeping the club in perpetual turmoil!
-
How would it end all the uncertainty? Even if Ashley took the club "off the market", everyone knows that he would still sell to the first person who had the money. If anything appointing Houghton would only confirm that he still wants to get rid of the club because in every aspect he is the cheapest and most convenient managerial option available.

I'm don't get too carried away either way by the football side of things but for me at the moment I'm not taking too much interest in the football as I simply find Ashley being in control too depressing. All I ask for as a football fan is hope and with Ashley in charge there is no hope! Two things I would pick you up on is when you say football works in cycles, well it doesn't for Newcastle as we haven't won a domestic trophy since 1955 which is disgusting for a club the size of Newcastle. Few years back I read the book about Newcastle not winning anything for 50 years and it’s unbelievable how badly this club has been mismanaged over the years! My last point is also related to your second point about whether we have been spoilt lately as we haven't been relegated for 16 years. You and other people on here should have more pride/confidence in the club/city, not being relegated is least we deserve! For the last 5 years we have been getting the 2nd/3rd largest crowd in the country! Is not being relegated now a barometer of success for the club? This is why I want Ashley out because of the negative influence he is having on the whole club including the fans! To see fan expectations being lowered to such a degree is nothing short of a travesty!
-
Didnt you know that administration = guaranteed short term improvement? Have a look at Leeds and Southampton. Great examples of how a team is immediately transformed after a visit from the administrators I never said anything about short term improvement and I never said everything would be happy again. I would take relegation/administration if it meant: We could start to talk about the football again As a club we would stop being a complete joke off the field The fans/city were treat with a little respect We had a long term plan in place, including a permanent manager
-
I hope fans do boycott the club as I would love to see Ashley lose a shed load of money and force him to sell up at a big loss! I wouldn't be bothered if that meant the club went into admin and got relegated as I would still support the club and take an interest if we could all concentrate on the football again. What I can't put up with is Ashley being such a dick and just taking the piss out of the fans/club/city! I just want this to end and start to think about the football again with a permanent manager in place with a long term plan. We've now gone over a year without a permanent manager in place which is just a joke when you consider we are the 3rd best supported team in England! At the moment I'm not even that bothered/so hacked off that I’m not really following the football (I only realised yesterday that we had a match last night) as it has taken a real back seat to all the off-field shenanigans which has to stop!
-
Dalglish is the only manager who I wished had of had more time at Newcastle because it also bought some quality players, his record in the transfer market is much better than anyone since including Robson.
-
Is there anyway we can lock this thread or can people please stop replying to something that is not even worth replying to?
-
Might be a good show but I couldn't listen to anything associated with Steve Wraith, it really puzzles me how this one-a-be gangster is often quoted in the press when anything happens at Newcastle.
-
Further evidence if any was needed that our support is the most attractive reason for someone to invest in the club! Hard to believe some people on here think that the half-baked protests at home to Hull last season put some investors off, bums on seats is much more important for someone looking to buy the club.
-
I know what people mean when they say they feel sad about Sir Bobby, but for me I just have a cheesy smile when I think about him! Great bloke on every level! RIP
-
I'm not too worried at the moment, for the simple reason that I don't rate the level of football in the Championship. With the group of players (not that I rate our players too much) we have now I'd be confident that we would gain promotion at the end of the season if we had a decent manager come in at some point. What would really worry me is if we started to sell a lot of players without a new owner/manager. A situation that can not be too far off with the recent comments from players and the sale still having not gone through.

Speechless at what you've wrote there Indi as there is so many holes in what you said, I’ll not go into them all! The fans had nothing to do with us getting relegated, JFK/Houghton, selling players and replacing them with inferior players and so and so on is what got us relegated. Some half-baked protest at home to Hull had nothing to do with it, remember these are the same set of fans who still pretty much filled the stadium throughout the whole season! I'd also say that expecting Ashley to splash the cash was not unrealistic. A person only buys a club without doing due diligence for two reasons, they're either loaded or a complete and utter idiot. At the time I gave Ashley the benefit of the doubt and thought he was loaded. How wrong I was! If I've also understood you right, how can you have a go at Keegan? How could he stay on when it was blatant that he was being undermined and the club wanting him to follow the club line? Would you have wanted him to come out with the same rubbish that JFK came out with as a mouthpiece for the club, things like only starting to scout for players for the January transfer window in mid January? What was the alternative? To stay on and declare open war on Ashley, publicly state that Ashley/Wise hadn't a clue about what they are doing? There’s no way he could have stayed on in circumstances like that. I often whether all these people who have a go at Keegan have a sense of personal pride? If they did they would know why he went! I can only think that they must all be Gareth out of The Office types who are willing to suck up to anyone at work and be walked all over without any personal moral code! I’m not so much writing this for you but also for some of the other people on here who have come out with the same sort of garbage over the last few months!

The reason for me saying that Liverpool are becoming stale is that they haven't been able to push on and the type of players they need to win the league would cost big money which it looks like the haven't got. They've pretty much had the same bunch of players now for a while and they just haven't got what it takes to win the league in my opinion as it needs freshening up. I wouldn't say the same for Arsenal as the type of players they need wouldn't cost a fortune. As for Chelsea, I don't know for me they just haven't got the right balance. Funny thinking about all the top teams though as i really don't think that even the top of the Premier League is what it's cracked up to be anymore as none of the top teams excite me.
-
not a hope in hell mate I wouldn't be so sure with some of their players being a little wiser this year together with Arshavin and Eduardo being available all season. Out of the top four at the moment I would say Man U have gone backwards, Chelsea/Liverpool are becoming very stale. Arsenal are the only team who I can see making strides forward. This is all going off the squads at the moment mind, so see what happens between now and the beginning of the season.
