  1. Wait what? Amnesty didnt say a word about how Ashley did poorly for Newcastle? This is shocking. Why do they all hate us?
  2. They have a good point regards the test like. The Sheffield United owner will have to do exactly as he's told if he wants to keep his fortunes
  3. Considering the difficult times all clubs are facing you really need to be a rich Saudi to even consider buying one now.
  4. You really haven't paid attention to the news in the last couple years?
  5. Reject the opportunity to have a new potential superstar team leading to more money money money. Doubt it. In normal times? No. At the moment? Yes. I'd argue that with the financial situation a lot of clubs will be facing now they want a new club capable of investing more than ever.

I’m not sure if that ”less important than a single human life” line is some weird sort of sarcasm. It’s so stupid and patronizing its unreal

Obviously not. It’s a pretty bad comic to be fair. On his standards.
  9. I doubt Newcastle is a way to diversify their portfolio. It’s a marketing investment. This rumour is 99% sure bullshit but marketing generally seems to be the first thing cut when things dont go that well.
  10. Your point being? Two points: - The NY Times journalists who won a Pulitzer for their investigation in state funded terrorism know about Saudi Arabia. The analysts at the Department of Treasury in the US know about SA. This guy does not. - Do you boycott petrol too? Of course he does...he knows it from the NY Times journalists (and other sources). He is the Chief Sports writer for The Guardian ffs. You and I know enough about Saudi Arabia anyway to make an informed choice. I have no control over boycotting petrol. If I could buy ethical petrol I would. I will continue to boycott NUFC. Buy an electric car if you care so much May well do the next time we change car. Was Saudi Arabia a drastically different country last time you bought a car? Oh god I cant wait whats next. So you use plastic too?!? And what about the dogs they eat in China?!?
  11. A full read of that is actually quite good. It is. I'm not expecting people not to be excited about the prospects of this but wish the "club getting it's soul back" and "saudi saviours" shit would stop quickly. Cringe as fuck. E: Obviously thats more on Twitter etc, where the idiots roam.
  12. Should've gone with your first instinct.
  13. ”Finally Newcastle is getting its soul back” x 10000 Sportwashing is already working.
  14. This. I'm ready to focus worrying whether next season will start or not.
  15. No, but going after people with different opinions to yours about their "moral depravity" is pretty boring.
  16. Good point that. Moral is all relative therefore one can never say that something is evil or good. Every action, deed, process, activity can be seen as good or evil, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Therefore by your impeccable logic, we cannot ever criticize anyone or anything, lest we fall in to the morally superior stone-throwing position, which you have decried. I was suggesting there was a degree of hypocrisy in taking a morally superior position without looking carefully at a lot of things. I was not suggesting there is no such thing as right or wrong. As Kevin Spacey's K-Pax character said, "The whole Universe knows right from wrong". I wish there was some better word for this....
  17. We would never have questioned Ashley if he'd invested in making the club better. Exactly. Owners of a football club will be judged by how they run it as a football club. Yeah, but we'll also ignore the fact that football is owned by extremely dodgy people. Sadly that seems to be the only way to compete at a high level. And the next question is how important is competing at the highest level at all. For some people values like human rights are more important than playing in the Champions League. And that's completely fine and understandable. It's just personal opinion. For some it would be better for their club to play in the lower leagues and share the values they respect. Someone voicing their opinion about that doesnt mean you as a fan are being "attacked".
  18. I'm not telling what anyone should think but that last line is completely untrue. We all know that the only reason they are buying Newcastle is sportswashing their image and moving the conversation to something else than their human rights situation. So it naturally is tied to what happens in Saudi Arabia. You can't just separate the two things at that point. Whether you give a s*** or not is another matter. You seem pretty convinced of the reason for purchase. Do you live next door but one to "Newcastle Fan'? Yes. I don't think the reason they are involved requires any debate.
  19. A bit weird comparison. How many clubs has your royal family bought in, let's say India, for the sole purpose of improving your image?
