Who is "hoping that he fails at Liverpool?" I think what some are saying is that he is not as good as others make him out to be and he did well for us because we played in a way that magnified his strengths and hid his weaknesses. Since Liverpool is unlikely to play in similar fashion, he will likely fail there and won't live up to his 35M tag. I'll go out on a limb and say that he won't score more than 12 premier league goals for Liverpool and if he does, then I'll put my hands up and admit that I was wrong. How many goals do you think he will score?

We replaced him with Demba Ba, he's decent? Hard to say, I don't know much about Demba Ba and have not seen enough of him. But my point stands, if he shows the form that Carroll was on, then Carroll would be irrelevant except for moaners who just want to moan for the sake of it. you point stands based on a presumption that can't be proved for a while, ok. irrelevant ffs he's the best striker we've had in ages, we need a striker, we sold him. it's no wonder he's being discussed. Yes because my point is based on a hypothesis that could go either way. It's called prediction and forecasting. If x happens then y will be the likely consequence. I take it you know little about maths, statistics, economic analysis or any discipline that requires forecasting or simply looking ahead He's the best striker we've had since Shearer who is at least two notches above him...that's not "ages" ago by my book...but go on you can exaggerate all you want.

Greedy c*** etc. How gullible of you

My sentiments exactly.. f*** me. Absolutely clueless. Thanks, coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment

I don't think Carroll is all that special, he hit a purple patch, had a good/excellent 6 months. Whether he can replicate that form and be a superstar in the future is still debatable. If we had replaced him with a decent striker, he would be soon forgotten. But since we didn't people, are not pining for him to come back. I won't have him back unless its below 10M. For above 10M, we can find better strikers who have proven themselves beyond 6 months.

Jonny that is being double cynical which really does you no credit. First of all you're assuming that the list in Sundaysun is somehow accurate and notwithstanding that, you come out with the whole PR thing. It's an accusation on top of an assumption which really has little basis. I'm as miffed as anyone that we didn't get a striker, in fact I rated our transfer window a '3' in its thread simply because I endorsed the Carroll sale provided we get a replacement and it was clear that we need a striker to push on. I have no doubt that being tight fisted and trying to always get a bargain backfired but I just don't buy the whole fake bid conspiracy theory mainly because whether we like it or not c*** Ashley does not give a damn of what we think of him. That's why I said "It wouldn't surprise me" rather than "The following I am about to post is 100% and totally accurate" Fair enough Jonny, missed the subtle yet important distinction, my apologies

Ashley and Llambias both give a damn and the singing section was only disbanded this year, that was done to try and shut up people who were slagging Ashley off. They will think that they have done enough in the transfer window and the shitty statement backs that up. They are clueless, the criticism still hurts them even though they don't want people to pick up on that. I have no doubt that they would have wrongfully thought that they have done enough but that is different from the conspiracy theory floating about that we are just pretending to make bids in an effort to appease fans. First it is completely unsubstantiated and just based on wild accusation by the usual suspects and second I don't see how any fans would be appeased by just bidding. I've yet to see anyone on this forum who have taken the "aah at least we tried" position. Like I said, football is an all or nothing game
-
Ashley hates getting stick off the fans, he cares what people think of him but tries to make it look as if he doesn't give a s*** in the hope that people will just give up. He put the club up for sale after the fans started singing about him and he's closed the singing section, of course he gives a damn. I disagree but my point has to be more nuanced. He used to care when he was doing the whole "I'm just like an average fan" persona and buying drinks for fans. But now he just does not give a dam anymore, otherwise how else do you explain the fact that we did not get a striker when most fans you ask would likely say that was the one position we needed to strengthened? Surely even the thick cunt could see that not buying a striker would increase fans hatred of him. I for one am not placated by our failed bids, we had to get a striker and we didn't, end of story. It's naive of anyone to think that fans would go "oh well at least we tried", football fans just don't operate like that, it's very black and white (pun not intended) I don't think he makes it look like he doesn't give a shit so that people give up, that' giving him way too much credit. He has a set of principles which unfortunately just does not work in running a football club and he's sticking by those principles regardless of what we think of him.

He does and that's why the singing section has gone. He does what Mick? you mean he cares what we think of him???

I know... And a woman, i'm a woman, it's clear no ? @Rainforest : please stop with all of that and your hint/allusion, it is really boring... Why do you want/have to imagine me to talk with me about football ?? Do you want me to post a picture of me to ensure you i'm a woman ?? Why would i lie about me on your forum ?? I don't need that to chat with people... So, those who don't believe me, don't lose your time speaking with me... In the beginning i found it funny but now it is very boring, maybe i was wrong about your reception of me on your forum. Ignore them. No, deleting my account will be more efficient. Those boys could then chat more quietly together. Oh, and Dave if you read me, don't ask me next time why i want to delete my account, you have the answer here... Mimi please don't delete your account. It might be more efficient for you but that would deprived this forum of your insights into the French players we have. Even though we have never chat before, I always find your posts interesting. Thanks

How many goals did Barton set up and weren't most of them from free kicks which presumably others (Cabaye) can take from now on?
-
Never agreed with that btw. Started this argument before he made that Tweet. and now that he has started attacking our players, what do you think of his tweets?
-
fuck it, can't take anymore of this shit. Gonna have a lie down and we better have a striker when I wake up later!
-
Thanks for making me laugh!
-
so bottom line we're not getting any striker then? Pathetic!
-
Nah no way, give me a decent striker and I'll be content
-
Anyway I've made my point that our CB depth/quality certainly can be improved but it is not a 'gaping hole'. But due to different interpretation, I can see how others might see the position as a 'gaping hole', happy to agree to disagree
-
Does this have any implication on us now that we got Santon?

You make it sound like we know what we are doing If these deals are anything to go by, you know exactly what you're doing. You run the risk of upsetting some posters Neil. Ashley and Co are c***s and there's no way past that, all these class signings must be some kind of accident or - ah got it.. they'll sell for more. I think you'll struggle to find anyone who is unhappy with the signings we've made. It's the gaping holes in the squad and lack of willing to push the club as far as possible that pisses people off. If we get a striker (and I think we will), not sure where the gaping hole is. i'll start you off, centre half Hardly gaping tbf. You don't think 2 fit CBs is gaping?! So we've had a gaping hole for less than a week then, somebody hit the panic button! Seriously though how many centre backs do we expect to have in a squad of an acceptable quality that will be happy to be just squad players? We've got Coloccini, Williamson, Taylor and Kadar which I think is enough, if the club don't think Kadar is good enough then get rid and get in a replacement but until then he should be given a chance. Not much point of having an academy if we're never going to have faith in them. It'd help if more than two in your list were available like. And alpal, to me it's a soon-to-be gaping hole. Don't think we can expect Taylor and Colo to play every single game and it sounds like Williamson could be out for a while. Quite a problem to me. So how many centre backs do you think a team should have in their 25 man squad? Four. Kadar doesn't count. Why doesn't he count? Because we haven't seen him in god knows how long Ok but surely Pardew has seen him (at least in training) and if he thinks Kadar is good enough for 4th choice cover, then that's fine with me.

So how many centre backs do you think a team should have in their 25 man squad? I'm not sure Kadar is good backup. He seems to be incapable of staying fit for more than three games in a row. If Pardew thinks he isn't up to it then get rid of him and replace him, until then if he's here then he has to be given the opportunity to play otherwise it was a complete waste of time signing players like that if we're not going to give them a chance. I wanted a centre back at the beginning of the summer btw, not because I thought we had a gaping hole there but because I see it as an area I'd like to see us improve on. That's the point I was making, if it is about improving the team/squad, then that's relative and a never ending possibility as even the best teams can be improved (for instance even Barcelona an be improved if they get a world class keeper). Improvement is different from 'gaping hole'. I agree that our CB depth/back up can be improved but it's not a 'gaping hole' at least not for me
-
Ya but then we won't have any natural LB? For me, how long Williamson is out is the key question. If it is 7 weeks, I don't think we need to buy another CB just to cover for the injury, at least it is not a priority area aka 'gaping hole'. But we're talking 3-4 months out, then yes we probably need a 3rd choice CB to cover Colo and Taylor

Thanks for the heads up, gonna google her now
