what did he bottle ? He was always threatening to quit over one thing or another, in the end the going got tough so he jumped ship, he's never had the guts to see out a rough patch in any job he's had. I was a big fan of Keegan when I was younger but the day he went on telly and gave it the "I'd love it" speech I felt embarrassed for the bloke and knew it was men against boys as far as him and Fergie was concerned. never had the guts to see out a rough patch.......the patch finishing sixth after selling andy cole, facing the fans and bringing in kitson was rougher than the one where he resigned. we really don't know why he resigned, keegans story changes and dougie hall claimed he got rid of him......what makes you so sure you know the truth ? Or when he actually took over the job in itself with the position we were in.
  7. He played 5-3-2 away to Chelsea in his first game didn't he when we lost 1-0? Also that awful performance at home to Spurs he done the same when we got beat.
  8. BSA is like all mediocre managers, he puts his faith in the older experienced players who will follow his defensive instructions. There is no room for flair players like Zoggy and Milner and that was probably the real reason why Dyer and Solano were allowed to leave. I would say Barton is his ideal player because he has a bit of everything but can be asked to defend. and put a hold on his attacking flair when away from home. I would not be at all surprised to see Martins sold in the transfer window and Anelka brought in from Bolton so he can play 4 5 1 away from home with Barton getting up in support. My prediction is a defeat at Sunderland. Is that why he signed Jay Jay Okocha then?
  9. Owen would be my choice. Anelka is very good at pulling def out of position with his floating out to the left and such...Ideal to create doubts and space for Owen to thrive on. Imo SA tried his hardest to get rid of one of the two (Owen/Martins) with all his repeatedly bleeting about get out clauses and such. Anelka's mobility is what really got the 433 at Bolton working. They had success with that formation before Anelka went there though.

Nah. Just think no matter how good someone is they will struggle to be considered as good as the footballing "gods" like Pele and Maradona due to their reputations in the game. But Maradona managed to achieve Pele like status, so it is possible if you're good enough.

Another player held back by injury when his country needed him. he was great, and lovable, but he ALWAYS seemed to be injured, partly because of the way he played. Not sure he was the best of his generation, although the mid 70s to mid 80s didn't have much competition. Gerrard isn't over rated, he has got hsi club to major finals and the won finals for them. That is performing under pressure. Never done it for his country though when we've needed him.

You're right. The subsequent activities players get up to shouldn't distract from their excellence as players. Some play well in patches (e.g. Keith Gillespie was a far better player than many will recognise him as now) and others become shit managers. that seems to distract from what they did previously. It shouldn't. Now Bryan Robson definitely is a Newcastle fan! He's exactly what we needed in Russia, as opposed to the oh so overrated Stevie G, he would have rallied the troops, he would have grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, he'd have been doing the job of the rest of the team, he'd have been all over the park trying to make something of it for us.

Bryan Robson never gets the praise he deserves from the Sky generation of fans who just all think of him as a shit manager, not one of the best players we have ever produced.
