I think the criticism is mainly aimed at his role yesterday. He's a decent squad player as you say but why is he playing the same role as Anita but worse?

He was at worst average today, and yet we are still gifted with continuous discussion of how poor a player he is. Different day, same story on this forum. They spend their time mocking him for his white skin (I am sure if his pigmentation was of a different ethnicity, they would say nowt about that) and his speech impediment, but they reserve their ire mostly for his biggest disability of all, his nationality. If his name was Jaques Le Col Baque, with Ugandan origin they would be far more tolerable. For evidence of this, see their rampant and sinister defence of Vernon Anita, by far one of the most pointless players the premier league has ever seen, but due to nefarious reasons outlined earlier, they will remorselessly defend him until the cows come home. This is very true mind. Makes me sick, the defence of Bramble, Boumsong and Ameobi was so transparent.

I had an eye on the middle when Obertan ran down the line, I think I actually said "fuck sake!" when he hit the cross first time as I thought it was another instance of Obertan bottling it, Gini had no right to be even getting a header in, let alone one that good.

I'm usually quite patient with players but I can't see what he offers, genuinely. He's not as good as Tiote at breaking up play/DM, his passing and distribution is much worse that Anita, his set pieces are awful and presumably Wijnaldum will prove consistently better at those. He can't really dribble and he's not quick. He does have an alreet shot and gets on a few blocks like today (although why is he so deep in the first place?) but he's not worth accommodating IMO.
