At least fredbob is trying to put up some kind of argument, misguided though it may be. But as I guess you want Ashley to sell up to anyone, I'm not sure why you're sticking up for him. How can you read that post as me "sticking up for Ashley"? I assume you'd want new owners as aye, they might fail. But then again, this is the second season in a row where the consensus is that we're in danger of relegation. So what's to fear from a change at the top? Why don't you stop "assuming" and deal with what people actually write? Oops, my bad. I missed out the quotes. That's not my opinion, it's yours from 2 years ago when a dodgy investment group showed an interest in buying us. They'll want to make money. This can only be done by, first and foremost, by pursuing success on the pitch and making Newcastle once again a team that people want to watch ? something that now seems to be way beyond Shepherd and his cronies. Aye, they might fail. But then again, this is the second season in a row where the consensus is that we're in danger of relegation. So what's to fear from a change at the top? I just assumed you'd still think the same now. Well, hell, forgive me for not twigging that you were replying to a two-year-old post.

That is media spin and selective quoting of the Keith Harris interview. It doesn't say Keegan will be back and it doesn't say he won't be. Why should whoever is trying to buy the club mention who they want as manager? Newcastle and Keegan are totally separate. It's not as if Ashley could guarantee Keegan would return. I'd be worried about a buyer who only wanted NUFC if they could get Keegan back. Spot on.

The excuse-making machine rolls on.
-
How would this (if true) affect any hopes he/the prospective new owners have of him returning as manager? Why does anyone take any notice of a grotty little local rag from the South? Those damned cockneys again.

It's not rocket science. The article is not, in fact, "taken as gospel". To take it as gospel would be as dumb and irrational as assuming that it can't possibly be true.
-
Perhaps you could post an example of someone "taking it as gospel". Do you really need me to point out an example? Yep, I'm challenging you to prove your point, which should be easy to do if it's true. That's it? So the article is therefore "taken as gospel"?

Self-righteous drivel.

In the absence of hard evidence the best any of us can do is make our minds up based on any available facts, plus previous experience of the parties involved, and being human in nature, also clouded no doubt by personal prejudice. Simple fact is I have previous experience of KK going back over 3 decades - I admire him and trust him. I have very little knowledge of Mike Ashley prior to his actions at NUFC, which largely haven't impressed me (partly due to recent events, but also due to less net transfer market spend in 3 windows than the mackems paid for a dodgy keeper) I have knowledge of Dennis Wise going back over several years which leads me to strongly suspect he is a cunt - who's side do you think I'm likely to be sympathetic to? No, actually, in the lack of hard evidence, the best any of us can do is keep some kind of open mind about how to aportion blame. Unfortunately this involves recognizing that Keegan may have acted in his own self-interest, perhaps to the detriment of the club.

God, that's a crap article. It's not funny, it's not clever, it's not informative, it contains no interesting opinions. It's not even annoying. -
Half? More like a third. And the number in the poll includes people like myself who are from the region but now live abroad. I said half? Sorry, you said "most", which means more than half. Only when there's only 2 options No, "most" will always mean more than half.

That'll make a pleasant change.... You, on the other hand, take a 22-hour-old post out of context simply in order to take a swipe. So no change there. Congratulations, though, on managing a whole post without whining about how the world is unfair to racists.

No other reason than he doesn't like Ashley. Remember Ashley bought his shares when he hospitalized, Ashley then dumped Fred from all his jobs, removed all the Shepherd Offshore signs from SJP & banned him from SJP. Ashley or his cronies always like to slag off Fred for getting the NR cash up front & for the size of debt etc, so he is now firing back. He could hardly do it during the Ashley round the Honeymoon season as he would of looked bitter, now he comes across as insightful into the running of the club. Of course all the above could be/is absolute shite & he speaks because the media contact him Probably a combination of the two. Some hack he knows calls up, and he says "why not" for some of the above reasons. I always got the impression that Shepherd was banned from the ground after Ashley found out he'd be stung for an immwediate £45 million re the SJP redevelopment loans.

Can't speak for Carlisle but i'd regard York as North East. In the grand scheme of things. You wouldn't find many of the citizens of York would agree with you - they are Yorkshiremen first & foremost., although not in the same way as, say, Leeds people are(people from W.Yorks brag about it more). To me, the North East probably ends at Scotch Corner in the south, Bowes in the west, and Berwick in the north. Aye, North East is County Durham, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. When you're coming home by road, Scotch Corner is definitely where the home stretch begins, though I never feel like I'm actually "home" until I've crossed over the Tyne.

I wonder why Shepherd feels the need to keep his name in the papers.

I'm not trying to be argumentative; I'm trying to make a point. If a new owner is not found, then "we" are going to have to be some kind of conciliatory position. I agree with Mick, basically, but everyone's just looking at what Ashley "ought" to do, not at what attitude we might take for the sake of compromise and the future of the club.

That gets a bit clouded when you start hiring people as managers, Vice-President (Player Recruitment) & Executive Director (Football) Whatever the details, I just can't see him accepting that anyone else has the right to tell him how to run things or allocate his resources. Especially not a bunch of people who, apart from having only a vague idea of what's been going on, have also recently told him, "Fuck off, you're never going to be one of us!"
-
No, I just tend to expect him to have his own ideas about how best to spend his own money.

I can't see this thread title without thinking of a legionnaire dropping a particularly fat wallet.
