  1. You miss the snide attacks on me yesterday, chum ? I dared to say I'd prefer guaranteed arab cash and had VERY large doubts about the "Nigerian consortium" and we'd set ourselves up to be laughed at even more than at present - the flood of "Racist" ranting touched a nerve - and as a result there was a LOT of bad feeling and I'd say it'll be lasting too. So I'm just renewing old aquintances - if you want to start down the same tedious route, feel free. Dave - it was others (including yourself) throwing the racist charges, and not just at me. No one's said it's racist Phil K has over-thought peoples objections to his objection: "Well I'm skeptical of the Nigerian bid, but people are questioning my skepticism, and since Nigerians are black they must think I'm only skeptical because I'm racist. WELL I'M NOT." When the only objection to his objection is that there's too little information to really decide one way or the other as of yet. Good post. With thought behind it - not at all usual on this subject ! As you have so amply demonstrated on this and other threads.
  2. When will these mad fools learn to wish for good things? If only we invested in players in the way Leeds did, that would guarantee us safety. Do you want to point out to him that we just broke our transfer record for a defender? no big deal. Keegan did it twice the last time, and Bobby Robson did it too. Didn't stop the club from buying other players though, and they didn't make the manager sell to buy to do it. What a load of stupid drivel. We sold several players in order to pay for Shearer. SBR spent a couple of seasons balancing the books before having much cash to splash, and was "backed" with less money than Shepherd's crapper appointments. Facts, chum. Darren Peacock, theen other players. You're not saying Keegan didn't spend big money are you mackems.gif But you have a selective memory anyway, you keep saying that a manager who had won titles with 2 different clubs and was a match for Alex Ferguson was a poor manager .. Then Warren Barton, followed up with Ginola, Hislop and Ferdinand. Hope you've been sending your usual emails to the cockney press dishing the dirt on the club you say you support lately, except that this time you have serious ammunition. Can't admit you got caught talking bullshit, so instead of engaging with the facts as presented, you start rolling around in some other, irrelevant bullshit. No wonder you're the forum joke.

  4. You may be willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater pal - I'm NOT I want people who will IMPROVE the club You seem frightened of being evenly marginally accused of racism - the club comes first (or should) The total lack of self-knowledge is quite impressive, in a dumb kind of way. Self knowledge...jesus wept. They should have a health warning on your keyboard pal. Yeah, it would say: "Butt-fuckingly stupid internet bigots can be harmful to your club."

  6. Don't be a peabrain. Right - so how about a bunch of white scam artists managing to cobble together enough money to buy the club. Think first. It isn't about nationality or colour its "Will they improve the club" ? And why are they automatically 'scam artists'? Of course it's f***ing nationality and colour. Then explain HOW they are great businessmen and will benefit the club. So because they're from Nigeria they're guilty until proven innocent is that it? Still no proof of their being "great businessmen" then ? So - all mouth, self-rightousness and no substance whatsoever eh ? No proof of them being "scam artists" either, and since the rules of our society are innocent till proven guilty, you are in the wrong by judging them as "scam artists" purely based on their nationality. Still waiting for the merest molecule of evidence on their business acumen None whatsoever evident yet we still have mouthy types ranting about everything BUT Still waiting for the merest molecule of evidence on their lack of business acumen.
  7. There's never much point in arguing with a bigot. Their prejudices are by definition irrational.
  8. The Nigerian one would be more likely to know something about football.
  9. I did that exact same think. Perked up at "French company EDF are spending around £7 billion to buy Newc..." but it turned out to be "nuclear power stations" instead of "Newcastle" >_< Would welcome Venables, personally. Chancer he may be, but he sets his teams up properly and he's got more than enough experience to get us through to Christmas without losing every game. My only concern would be how the fans would take to him. I've never felt so remote from my fellow fans as when they were bellowing about the cockney mafia, but if there's any further grief about him being a cockney, it'll probably nail the coffin shut for me as far as going to the game is concerned. Still love the club, but I was embarrassed at the pitiful parochial attitudes on display at the Hull game and on the telly. Got to get away from our pathetic hero worshipping and get on with who's best for the job. It was bad enough when Freddie Shepherd went on about us wanting Geordies playing for and managing the club; I didn't think anyone actually agreed with him. (IMO, of course) Similar to my thinking. I wouldn't "welcome" Venables exactly, but he's no idiot, has plenty of experience, doesn't get rattled easily, and as a steady-the-ship stopgap I think he'd be a good choice. If small-minded hostility to "cockneys" makes his job impossible, then we probably deserve to go down.
  10. Apart from SBR, they didn't appoint many good managers to drive out. But hey, they managed with him, and the floatation drove out their only other successful appointment.
  11. Ashley's paid for the biggest chunk.
  12. After reading all that bollocks I think I'll have to un-join.
  13. And what, pray, would have happened to NUFC if he HADN'T rescued the club in 1992? We were going BUST, man - get real... And as for your political comment, I am no fan of EITHER UK major party, and if you think the Tories are any worse than Labour, you need to wake up and smell the coffee.. The UK Govt is no more powerful than a Town Council these days...you are run from Brussels, my friend... Amazing how weird the world seems to look when you're stuck on the arse side, thousands of miles from civilisation, in a place with more sheep than people.
  14. That's minimum £3.4 million per season. Could rise above £4 million with a modest cup run.
  15. You'll have to unpack that one a bit.
  16. It's the other end of the question, but I vaguely remember calculating that the Hall family made about £170 million out of the mid-1990s flotation.
  17. do you really think this accounts for why everyone is upset? if so i think you're doing the many different arguments and opinions put forth a gigantic disservice. you could easily come out with stuff like 'it seems some people are backing Ashley the idea, a maverick force who drove out the evil Shepherd, saved the club from extinction and was half way round to turning us into the next Arsenal, rather than Ashley the man, who is a deeply flawed individual" as i said, very easy, but that would be as much bollocks as the fanciful idea that "this whole mess" (which was in motion well before fans got wind of it) as you put it, is totally down to the fan's misconception. i hope you have the insight to understand this. Poorly argued. The cheap sarcasm doesn't help. eh? i wasnt being sarcastic. i was trying to take bobyule's logic out of context so he could more clearly see the basic principles without them being clouded by assumptions. ie showing how someone with a different opinion could use his own logic but to characterise the opinions of ashley supporters or keegan blamers rather than the opposite. it's a lazy argument as it reduces the wealth of opinions down to 'the people who disagree with me are delusional" and it would be a lazy argument even if used to advocate the opposite position. i'll go for it again in a more blunt manner seeing as you didnt get it first time: This whole mess is because some fans have confused Ashley the legend with Ashley the man. Ashley the legend is this Messiah-like, larger than life character who is going to make everyone's dreams come true, removing the cause of all our ills in Freddy Shepherd and turning NUFC into a new Arsenal. Ashley the man has never quite lived up to that image. His famous enthusiasm is infectious, baring his belly and wearing the toon top, but it can wane too easily. I don't think he's got the insight, the ambition or the drive of the really top club owners. That's why he's turned us into a mess and is getting out at the first sign of trouble. It was Ashley the man who has overseen this mess and is selling up of his own accord, but some people have reacted like we're losing Ashley the legend. Oh, I got it the first time. I just thought it was a load of rubbish.

  19. But it's true that the Hutu also used machetes for genocidal purposes. They just have nothing to do with Nigeria, where the tribes are the Yoruba, the Ibo and the Hausa.
