I think it matters to multi national development companies, the FA, the minister of sports, the treasury Yes, but you're a moron.

Who cares what Shepherd's job title is right now? Basically his role is that of Ex-Boss.

Craziest Thing You've Seen At A Football Park/Match.
OzzieMandias replied to The Bonk's topic in Football
Was anyone at the game (late '70s?) when someone hoyed a petrol bomb into the opposing (West Ham?) supporters? -
That's what it comes down to in the end. and if a club bids on the last day? Then it'll be up to him if he leaves, I'm not sure if he will as he values his squeaky clean reputation too much but it's not the ideal situation for the club to be in. I share your concerns, mate. If a massive bid comes in, which I'd be astonished at, the club would have to consider it. Can't see it happening like. The problem is, no one will bid more than £9m because that'll activate the release clause and £9m sadly isn't big enough for me to be satisfied for him to leave. The release clause is only if a Champions League club comes in for him. For any other club, £9 million would be a minimum figure. So there's a faint chance that he might go for more to someone or other.

Yawn.

No its not, thats what happens when you put a release clause in a contract. Dyer and Bellamy didnt have release clauses, why are they relevant? so he's fucked the club royally then, which makes it even worse that he's given leeway by fans to organise his life according to his own self interest and I'm pretty sure Bellamy had a champions league clause He did at Blackburn, not here. As for the rest, whine to the people who negotiated the release clause. And "leeway by fans" relates to no reality except your own latest sad wind-up attempt. no leeway by fans? have you not read this thread? plenty of people perfectly happy to accept that he waits until pre-season to decide to honour his 4 year contract The release clause in his contract has nothing to do with fans. And if it gets triggered how can it be Owen dishonouring his contract? It's part of his contract, moron.

Put up a poll and I know which way I'll vote.

The whole thing simply reflects that there's not enough footballing talent to go around 20 cash-rich Premiership clubs.
-
Even they can occasionally get something right.

A post that might stand some faint chance of making sense if the release clause was not in his contract.

For whatever combination of reasons -- waiting to see what would happen at NUFC, waiting to see if a CL club would come in for him, waiting to see how it looks with SA -- he's arrived at the point where committing himself to the Toon for the time being is clearly his best option. This is the acknowledgment of that fact. I don't mind him taking a while to make up his mind. This summer could have been very different. If you were Owen, and Fat Fred was still in charge, and he was scrambling around for money for Roeder to spend, and, say, Arsenal wanted you, where would you be playing next season?

Ashley to "stun the football world" with big signings
OzzieMandias replied to NSG's topic in Football
I imagine "success" is somewhere on his agenda. The question for me is less the nature of his intentions, than his ability to deliver. I'm gently optimistic, but it's going to be difficult to rise above the pack. We're not the only club with new money backing new management, and the top four aren't looking any weaker. -
He makes enough money to pay off our (his!) stadium debts by shifting a bit of spare cash around. Works for me.
-
That an'aal, of course.
-
I'm pleased it's worked out that he's staying. Having him around injects both a bit of gravity and a bit of international star quality into the squad. And goals. I'm confident he'll put everything into his comeback. What else can he do?
-
Obviously had a copywriter on the job. Pretty good one, too.
-
There's nowhere to go after this current upping of the ante, is there? I mean, there aren't any richer people than those currently buying up Premiership clubs, only other people just as rich. Although I suppose the rich are getting richer...
-
Yep, $20 billion and the rest is in the realm of the boggling, but believable..
-
He's quite disgustingly rich, but get real. $200 billion is about 30 percent of Russia's GDP.
-
We do need a couple of big signings -- for branding purposes and to get neutrals interested -- and I'm sure that Ashley understands that. Good that SA is commencing with a sensible spell of squad-building. Need some stars too, though, in today's game.
-
Rather keep Oba, but Gudjohnsen wouldn't be a disaster. We'd lose some sparkle but gain some experience.
-
The possibility that Arsenal will fall on their own sword is faint, but real. I agree that the most likely outcome will be Kroenke and Dein in, with Wenger on a new contract. Might not happen, though.
