I wondered whether he just didn't see Grealish, who was surrounded by three defenders.

It's terrible luck for Nick, but also a chance for Dubs to rise to the occasion, like Lascelles has done. His early form for us was great, and I'd back him to recapture that. It's an exciting time to play in this side.

A shame it wasn't on Sky. The Neville-Keane meltdown would have been truly epic. Unless Rashford is given what he considers his ideal role, he isn't prepared to try. It's like he wants to protect his reputation as a supposedly great player by not inflicting on himself the embarrassment of trying but failing. Ten Haag is in a difficult position with all that's going on in the background, but he surely shouldn't pick players who aren't putting in a stint for the team. He made that mistake with Ronaldo.

Only seen Mainoo once, but he was impressive. He's one to watch. It's asking a lot of the same eleven to produce yet again, but we're no strangers to defying logic.

Yeah, anyone we buy or loan in January needs to able to play for the first team more or less right away. Otherwise there's not much point. Phillips is a very good player, but I think City will prefer for him to move abroad - the Juve links are quite persistent. Equally persistent is the story that he would like to join us, which looks to me the right move for him anyway.

What he still hasn't twigged is that when he verbally abuses someone, he demeans himself more than the other person. It's a basic part of growing up.

With two previous penalty appeals being turned down, I think there was extra pressure on the officials to give this one. There is a general problem about handballs in the penalty area. I don't think Tino's one would have been noticed by a ref in pre-VAR times - it happened too quickly and the touch was too slight to be seen with any certainty. Now that these incidents can be picked up in slow-motion replays, there's a big problem in establishing what is a 'clear and obvious error'. There are too many complicating factors. Maybe handballs should be excluded from VAR. The ability of the officials to spot a handball already gives a good indication of how significant the offence is.

Not promising. We've yet to win a transfer battle with anyone from the 'big six'. We're still on target for the quadruple though, so maybe that'll change.

It's always somebody's else's fault. His brother's imprisonment was due to what his mate had done, Aguero was to blame because he was a grass, and the other player was to blame for the cigar incident - Joey was just administering justice.

Been linked with Serhou Guirassy. Liked the look of him. https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/who-is-serhou-guirassy-stuttgart-striker-outscoring-harry-kane-24806

On reflection, a draw is a good result, and we're still in with a chance of going through. It just feels bad to lose such a late goal in that way. PSG are very much a team that is less than the sum of its parts. Our players found it very difficult to win their individual battles, but despite that, we matched them for long stretches of the game. It was the classic Team of Stars v a Star Team. However, they were able to freshen their team up in the last half hour, and we weren't.

Ugh. That feels like a defeat. We rode our luck, but that's a seriously bad way of conceding a goal. Once the ref is called over to view the incident, there's so much pressure on them to change their mind. No way was it a clear and obvious error, but because it was such an important game, VAR decided to pass the decision on. Reckon I need the assistance of Mr Jack Daniel to get to sleep the night.

Only two keepers on the bench sounds a bit reckless.
-
Given that our bench on Saturday included 3 keepers and 3 kids, and given that it isn't going to change much soon, it's pretty clear that we're not in a good state to fight all four competitions. I want us to win, but if we don't, that might be a blessing in disguise. That's all.
-
Looking forward to the game, but I see it as a free hit. I hope we win, but I won't be too downhearted if we go out of the competition and even miss out on the Europa League too. With the pace we play, and the quality and depth of our squad, we can't realistically compete in four competitions at once.

If you make a challenge in the penalty area, make contact but don't get the ball, you're in trouble. However, it does look like VAR is increasingly favouring the attacker. If that's consistent, then I suppose we can live with it. I wasn't in favour of VAR except for pure matters of fact like offsides and whether the ball has crossed the goal-line. However, now that it's here, we have to expect a period of adjustment until some level of stability is achieved. Ultimately, I suppose, there has to be some acceptance by managers and pundits that the system is operated by human beings and some decisions are very difficult. If everyone's going to continue moaning like this, then maybe it'll soon be time to revert to 'fact only' decisions.

Sorry to go on a bit, but this is something I feel strongly about. From watching yesterday's scenes at Goodison, I'm concerned at how far these protests are going to go, if Everton fail to escape the relegation zone. We've seen their Directors forced to stay away from the ground due to plausible threats of violence, players accosted outside the ground, and fireworks let off at night outside a visiting team's hotel. There was also the Liverpool fans trying to intimidate a visiting team in the Champions League by organising a mob to surround the coach. Many Everton fans seem to think that violence or the threat of it is a legitimate tactic to use to their advantage against anyone. The intervention of politicians can only legitimate those fans' sense of grievance. We could be going into uncharted territory here.

I agree with you. It's not just a matter of punishment - it needs to be a deterrent as well. Any club in danger of relegation might consider it's worth the risk of an overspend if the worst that's going to happen is a 10 point penalty the season afterwards. The financial penalty for relegation is huge. A bigger deterrent is the prospect of being sued by the clubs who stuck to the rules but got relegated as a result. However, we don't know how a case like that would be viewed by the courts. Incidentally, the £19m overspend is only the figure that Everton were prepared to admit to. The Premiership's view was nearly £100m. Everton were trying to use all sorts of dodgy devices to reduce the figure. What annoys me greatly is the idea that this punishment was unexpected. That is only lawyer-speak, but it is being taken up by politicians who should know better (ho ho). As with Man City, it was very obvious to any outsider that something dodgy was going on with the Everton spending, and the club had been in discussion with the Premiership for months beforehand.

I don't think Rashford is a player to have on your side when the going gets tough. He'll show some spark when the situation suits him, or when his team is playing well, but otherwise, he seems to lose interest. I found it weird that Fernandes gave him the penalty to boost his confidence. The guy is 26, he's played 59 times for England and 250 league games for Man U. Shouldn't he be going round boosting the other players' confidence?
