I've read that there's a Woltemade chant based on an MGK video. Can someone give me the lyric?
  2. Spoilt for choice, really. Since the takeover, I can't think of a transfer that hasn't worked out well. Bruno - All in from the start. Signed when we were in relegation trouble, with no buy-out clause. He and Eddie epitomise the spirit of our revived club. Isak - Putting aside the way it ended, we did sign someone who turned out to be one of the best players in the world. Trippier - This was a signing that I think gave us some credibility when the situation looked dire. Although I didn't know it at the time, it was a turning point. Tonali is very unlucky to miss out. I think he's still improving, which of course is great to see after a dreadful start.
  3. Oh dear. I'm a bit deaf and that's what I thought I heard. I googled that name and it came up as a Sky Sports Presenter. On checking again, I think the name was Pien Meulensteen. Anyway, my point still stands.
  4. There was an uncomfortable moment on Sky Sports when he flirted with Dee Willamsey and she then seemed to cut the interview short. On air, it felt a bit disrespectful. There are times when I find the guy quite irritating.

A strange but brilliant pen. He seemed to generate a lot of power just by straightening his leg rather than swinging it. I'd have thought it was hard to achieve accuracy that way, but he did it.
  6. Compared to last season, we look a bit better at working the ball in tight spaces through the midfield. That's something we've added to our game. It was a comfortable win, really. I love Dan Burn, but we need something more from left back going forward. It's a shame about the injury to Hall.
  7. Everything points to a win, I suppose. Their form as well as ours. Having listened to Eddie talk about the way he took a long break from Bournemouth, I do wonder whether Postecoglou should have done the same - given himself a chance to reassess and recharge. He's jumped into a club where the fans have high expectations from last season, but where the team has probably already peaked. Add to that an owner who seems to be quite demanding, it looks like quite a challenge.

    Tino Livramento

This bit we can agree on, but I'm a bit more concerned about his technical limitations on the ball. Full backs often play an important part in an attack, because they're the ones who are most likely to receive the ball in time and space, and facing forward.

I'd agree with the first part. On the second bit, I'd much prefer to see him on the right. I think his left foot is quite weak. I tried to word my initial post carefully, because I didn't want to say he was a bad player, or wasn't worth his place. He's strong and athletic, and as a result is able to recover from his mistakes, as you and others have said. What I like to see in a young player is an eagerness to be on the ball, and to make things happen. I haven't yet had that feeling with Tino, but I have with Lewis Hall. I hope that Tino will continue to develop his confidence, technique on the ball and decision-making, but there's still work to be done. I just think that some of the praise he's getting now is premature.

It'll be interesting to see how we do without Tino. To be honest, I've never been completely convinced about him. He's a good athlete, but I think he needs to work on his first touch and his passing. It looks like we'll have Hall and Burn competing at left back, and much though I like Big Dan, I'd really like to young Lewis come through.
  11. I know I sound like a broken record, but there is no finer manager on the planet than Eddie Howe. Sunday's result, when we lost a big game late on from a winning position, should have been a real blow to morale. Instead, a few days later we put in our best performance of the season. I repeat, there is no-one finer.
  12. Four clean sheets in five games is a good foundation. Wissa and Ramsey will make a big difference to our attacking threat. Looking at the team we fielded, I’d have taken a draw all day long.
  13. We gambled on getting something with a very high-energy press in the early stages. If Gordon had put that chance away, it could have been very different. I'm pretty sure Wissa would have buried it. Once our pace slowed down, we were outclassed. The goal at the end flattered us a bit.
  14. I've got a feeling we needed to score early, but still very much in it. Gordon's miss may be costly. I had to turn the sound off unfortunately. Fletcher and McCoist just won't shut up.

True, but we've wriggled out of the trap by signing Woltemade.

Lahm acknowledges at the end that he's a Liverpool fan - perhaps he should have done so earlier on. I take heart from that article. They're worried about us. Slot has been making some bitchy comments too. We gave them a pasting at Wembley and we were the better side for much of the more recent game. I don't think they've figured out what to do about us.
  17. Raiding Man U for their best young player would be too good to be true.
  18. Schadenfreude, old bean. Usually we're on the receiving end.
  19. I've just watched the post-match analysis on Sky. It was really interesting. My feeling is that when you play three at the back, the defenders need to take more responsibility and have the confidence to make decisions using their own initiative. A four is a bit less flexible but the roles are more clear. What I think may be happening is that Amorim is demanding more from his players in terms of their capacity for decision-making and taking initiative, but not giving them the confidence to do that. By the same token, they also need to communicate better, but none of them look confident enough to lead. They look scared of making a mistake. They looked very good at times, but the minute they were put under pressure, it unravelled.
  20. Managers can be gifted in all sorts of areas of the game, but it is absolutely essential that the guy instils his players with confidence in the way they are being asked to play. If the manager is moaning about his resources and looking overwhelmed, that's not going to happen. Eddie inherited a far worse situation than Amorim but right from the start he was instilling real belief in the players. I'm not just being wise after the event, but the moment I heard Emery saying that Villa would not be finishing in the top seven, I thought, you've had it. If you can't inspire yourself, there's no way you can inspire your team.
  21. You're way ahead on net spend - £177m v £99m.
  22. We started the season very light in the striker department, and then Gordon got a red card. Woltemade is a great signing and we have Wissa to come. Three clean sheets in four games in the circumstances is encouraging. The other game was Liverpool, a game that we almost won, despite all the odds. I think we're now clicking into gear, and the squad as a whole looks much better than last season's, despite the loss of Isak. Why we concede so few goals is an abiding mystery to me. In the final 3 games of the league cup, we played nearly five hours of football against the best two teams in the country, and conceded only one goal. Of all the miracles that our Eddie has produced, that's the most astonishing for me.
  23. I don't think you'll be competing with us. The other two maybe. You played some nice football today, but obviously it's what happens at both ends of the pitch that counts. It was very easy to forget that Sesko existed, and your back three looked shaky.
  24. Sesko didn't impose himself on the game at all. Man U is not the place for a centre forward lacking in confidence. I do have a thing about modern commentators not identify players for you and giving you pointless facts and stats instead. Peter Drury could not conceal his feelings of wonder when he shared this nugget with the world - 'The last Manchester Derby which featured neither Ederson nor De Gea was 14 years ago'. Fascinating stuff.
