Mbuemo and Neto if we really want to make some noise.
  3. Hard to be anything other than positive about this. On paper, he's as good as you're going to get. Obviously it's not a one man job, he'll need to put a team together. The fact he's done well finding players at multiple clubs is promising though. Being massively optimistic, there's a decent chance this has worked out absolutely ideally for us. We got Wheel Nonce in for a couple of years to build up the club behind the scenes, something that's his supposed strong point. Now with those foundations in placed, he's rolled off and we've replaced him with Mitchell, whose strength seems to be finding talent before they've become expensive, something that we'll need to excel at if we're going to compete in the age of PSR.

I don't know, I feel you kind of have to assume that your 50m midfielder is pretty decent and will feature a fair amount. He might flop but he'll be given every opportunity to not do so. For the record I'd very much be interested in moving on Longstaff and bringing in a new CM with more upside. I'd probably currently rank CM behind RW, versatile forward, CB and GK in terms of priority targets though.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

I think on paper he'd be pretty much the ideal player for what we need at RW and I'd be very surprised if we're not interested, his name has been mentioned in connection to us for years. Has the qualities of a winger in terms of being able to run at and beat a man but also likes to get on the ball and try to pick a killer pass in the final third. Seems unclear as to what sort of wages he's on though, may be out of our range. And would he want to go to a club not in Europe while he's aged 27, in his prime? I'd also be a little worried about a player moving to us as a downwards step. Will he have the motivation? Think there's a fair chance he moves this summer, think we'll have an interest. Not sure we'll land him though.

I'd be much more confident in our backup midfielders than I would in our backup attackers. Willock and Longstaff have proven that they can be effective players in an Eddie Howe Newcastle team playing top four football. Miley also needs a path to being involved in the first team if he's going to develop like we hope. Even once we sign a RW, our depth there will be poor. Assuming Gordon - Isak - New RW is first choice, Barnes is the only one who's good enough after that IMO.

Thiaw Thiaw Thiaw How do you like it? How do you like it? Thiaw Thiaw Thiaw
  8. Aye the idea that we need to make more space for a RW when we already have a massive, gaping hole at that position seems odd Move on Almiron and Wilson, sign a first choice RW and a young striker who is also comfortable playing wide (ideally on the right side) and we'll be looking good. Keep Murphy as a reserve and shithousing specialist to close out games we're leading. Also seems Eddie trusts him to play RB if needed, which will be particularly handy if Trippier moves on.
  9. Because we only had issues until the end of June 30th. Once that passed, we've less need to come down off our supposed 20m asking price. I'd imagine there was a meeting somewhere in the middle, I'm sure they really didn't want to wait another year to have a key member of their rebuild in place.
  10. "Listen sir I'm gonna need you to get all the way off my back about the lack of end product." "Why?" "So the transfer can happen." "That works!"
  11. That Ben Jacobs always reminds me of Ryan from Pitch Meeting when his tweets are posted. He should post in that style IMO. "So, you have a transfer for me?" "Yes sir, I do. It's called Miguel Almiron to Saudi Arabia." "Wow, it's gonna be hard for Newcastle to get good money for him at his age." "Actually it's gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience."

Aye, RCB seems a certainty. We were very clearly keen on Tosin. RW RCB Versatile Forward GK Reckon that's the list of where we're trying to bring in impact players in order. I'd personally put the versatile forward second on the list but I think it's third for the club. I reckon we might punt on the GK situation until next year.

If we moved on Wilson and Almiron and then brought in MGW and Mbuemo (or two players that fit those moulds) I'd feel really good about us going into next season. Isak, Gordon, MGW, Barnes and Mbuemo is a really good quintet to fill the front three spots while giving us depth and options off the bench. Lots of versatility there too. Murphy as the sixth man of the front options. Would also give us the option of going 4-2-3-1 with MGW in the hole.
  14. Aye, I guess my question was if we can afford to be in the red next year if it's taking the place of the 21/22 year. These aren't meant to be super accurate figures, but just for simplification sake let's say they are... 21/22 - 70m loss 22/23 - 70m loss 23/24 - 40m profit Overall 100m loss. Inside the 105m maximum loss allowable. The next June 30th deadline, the figures would be. 22/23 - 70m loss 23/24 - 40m profit 24/25 - ? Doesn't that mean we can afford a pretty heavy operating loss this year? (Obviously, we don't want to find ourselves back in a dodgy spot in a couple of years so don't want to fly too close to the sun, but you get the idea)
  15. So is the belief that our 21/22 and 22/23 numbers were both pretty ropey, hence the need to make a solid profit in 23/24 to be compliant for the last three years? If so, that sets us up pretty well over the next two years as our next two PSR end of year deadlines will also include the 23/24 figures. Consensus seems to be that our 21/22 numbers were quite bad, so we can afford to be pretty aggressive now this summer. (Not super confident on the three year operating loss thing so would actually appreciate correction or clarification on any of that)
  16. Honestly, those are good prices for the two we sold so if there's a couple of nice sponsorship deals to come on top of that we might be able to make some genuine noise in the transfer market. Fingers crossed, anyway. Frustrating as fuck that we've had to sell an exciting young RW when it's arguably our weakest spot in the starting 11.
  17. Yeah, also this outlay for Anderson isn't going to really impact them at all on this year's PSR number. It'll be future years where they'll have to pay that off, while the incoming funds all count as one big chunk this year.
  18. Spurs do very well to be grouped in with the other five of the supposed "big six". I know they've been consistently good for a fair while but I can't imagine they're particularly important to the Premier League brand.
  19. Basically shows how they're able to spend so much. The 274m they've taken in will all have counted immediately as incoming funds, whereas the 966m will have been amortized over five years (or more with some of the earlier deals). It's not quite as simple as dividing that figure by 5 and getting just under 200m spent, but it's a useful rough guide. Of course, they have to keep selling players in future years to keep balancing out their spending, but with the number of young players they have there that will be a piece of piss for them. Meanwhile, we've only spent 300m but even dividing that by 5 and getting 60m it's still spending more than the 42 we've brought in. As much as from a purely footballing perspective it absolutely sucks, selling Minteh on for 40m (and having loads more Minteh types on the books for future deals) is a bit of no-brainer if it's at all possible.
  20. Personally always like to see players we've sold do absolutely terribly to make the deal look smarter so Everton seems the ideal spot.
  21. That's an insane amount of money for a player who's such an unknown quantity. I'll be amazed if it's true like
  22. It's annoying because the absolute ideal scenario would be signing a first choice RW and then Minteh spending a couple of years as second choice with Almiron moving on. With his pace, you figure he'd at least he very useful off the bench while we give him time to see if he can turn into a first choice player. If we do sell him I'd love to see us bring in Cozier-Duberry on a free to basically fill that role for us, would certainly soften the blow of losing one of the few genuinely exciting young attacking players we've had on our books in recent times before he's even kicked a ball.
  23. It's all needlessly complicated because football is shit now but on a very basic level... The entire transfer fee we get for Minteh counts as incoming funds for PSR this year, while whatever we spend on a replacement is divided by five and split over the next five years (assuming we sign the guy to a five year contract) So if we sell Minteh for 30m and sign somebody else for 60m, that counts as 30m incoming on transfer fees and 12m outgoing. Obviously it's adding an extra 12m to our outgoings in the next four seasons too but that's a problem from our future accounting team.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

My guess is Isak will be the clear first choice CF. DCL will cover when Isak needs a rest (his fitness is clearly something we need to be clever with), either as a sub for the last 20 minutes of games that we're comfortable in or with the odd start in the cups or when we've got a busy week. There's also the option when we need to change things of putting DCL CF and Isak playing off him, either out left or just in the hole. Remember in 22/23 when both Wilson and Isak were fit? Like that, essentially. Difference is, Isak is now the established top man at the club and DCL will be coming in a complementary role rather than to be true competition for his place. It's not the most exciting of signings, to be honest. I'd rather a young player with a bit more in the way of potential. I can see the logic though, especially if it's a reasonable price and allows us to go big at RW.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

I do still wonder what Eddie's long term plan is for how he wants the back four to operate. If the plan is still to shift into a back three with Livramento doing what Trippier has and being a full on wing-back then I could see MGW on the right making sense as he'd spend most of his time drifting in towards a #10 role anyway. Obviously the idea of Hall and Livra as a tandem of super attacking full backs is the sexy idea but I do wonder if Eddie sees Kelly and Burn as his LB options (with added bonus that they can cover at CB as needed). I think the idea that Hall would have got any time at LB last season without all the injuries is pretty fanciful, to be honest. There's also a lot of merit to the back three in terms of what it allows us to do with our 3 midfielders, we don't really need a traditional holding midfielder if we have a full back who doesn't really push on, allows Bruno to be that roaming playmaker with legs either side of him.
