Roeders quotes may have been taken out of context, he might have said "only a month."

Piss taking aside, I really think the signing of Shearer was a gamble, I think Keegan and Sir John thought that Shearer and Ferdinand would bring the title to the club so gambled on a title helping to finance Shearer, when it didn't work we had to sell one of them and Ferdinand was getting on and wasn't a Geordie so he was the one to go to bring some cash in. That's just an opinion but it fits what was happening, £15 million was a lot of money to play for one player, in fact it was still a lot for 2 or 3 players. I've never had any problem with the reason Beardsley gave for leaving, he went to guaranteed trophies, no team other than Liverpool could give him that and he chose well. I'm sure Waddle and Gazza went for the cash, didn't Gazza had an option of going to Man U, a team more likely to win something than Spurs. Maybe Gazza just preferred working with Vanables, none of us will know the real reason but I seriously doubt that it was for trophies, no matter what he said at the time.
-
I can't remember Shearer leaving for Spurs, you're confusing him with Ferdinand by the looks of it. The league table you posted does show a few clubs going backwards, that's no excuse for us doing the same and it's totally unrelated, it's your attempt to deflect things away from where we are now. Villa finishing bottom 7 seasons after winning the European Cup is going backwards, I thought that would be obvious although I'm not surprised that you didn't recognise it. Shit as Ellis may be, he guided Villa to finish above a Newcastle guided by Shepherd more times than not, what does that make Shepherd? Remember you use league position as the form guide.
-
The ambitions of the board are the same now as they were back then, to take as much out of the club as possible, if Shepherd had any ambitions for success he'd resign and appoint somebody who knew what they were doing. I don't suppose you'll understand that. A shite manager is a useless thing to have, to give him almost £50 million is financial suicide.
-
Your first worry is my biggest worry, the transfer market might be a lack of bottle, that is easier to change and could actually be of benefit in the long term.
-
At this time I can only see one improvement to just over a year ago and that is Souness has gone. Things might get better, they should once Owen returns but I can't see Owen taking us to where we were before the arrival of Souness. With Robson you always knew he'd eventually turn things around, you always knew that he was capable of giving us a good team, his record in management told us that. Roeder doesn't have the benefit of that record, anybody getting too excited about what Roeder might do is not living in the real world. Things might work out well for us under him, if they do then it's a first for him as a manager.
-
Yes you've forgotten one thing. You support the club apparently. If people cant see the difference between the s**** that Souness served up and the football that Roeder has encouraged us to play (minus Owen & Shearer) then they are not watching the same side that i saw last season. Souness's side couldnt string two passes together, let alone elicit praise from the southern press for actually trying to play football. I can see a bit of a difference at times and none at other times, I'm not sure what you're getting at when you refer to last season. Do you mean Souness last season, Roeder last season, or both? Anyway, I agree last season under Roeder was better than last season under Souness. This season under Roeder has been a step backwards because he's managing differently, I've explained in my last post where I think he's going wrong and I'll stick by that, I might change my mind but not yet. When Roeder has choices to make he'll get them wrong more often than right. As soon as he gets his blue eyed boys back he''ll pick them, his reaction to Carr being injured is laughable and worrying if he's being honest. Roeder was a defender yet he's done nothing to improve our defence, we still look as if we're one game away from defensive blunders. Quite often this season we've also been unable to string 2 passes together so we're not that much better with our passing. Nobby had us ticking over a lot better but was dropped when returning after suspension, this wasn't done to rest Solano, it was done because Roeder thought we'd play better with the team he put out. Did anybody agree with him? I don't know a single person who agreed with this before or after, it's worrying that Roeder thinks so highly of Carr, it's not a good sign.
-
I agree that he has a major rebuilding job on his hands, he just doesn't appear to be up to it, he pointed out that we were "paper thin" before the August transfer window then reduced the squad depth, that's stupidity. He's had an opportunity to put some of that right but again failed, he lost one loan player and brought another in. Roeder took over form Souness and put the round pegs into the round holes and we played better because people were comfortable with that, they knew what was expected and got on with it. He did the easy things and they worked, this year he's got his blue eyed boys and plays them regardless of form, again, that's stupidity. He comes across as being a ditherer who hasn't got the balls to drop certain players, he very rarely changes a game when things goes wrong. Any manager who can drop Nobby for Carr has got no idea what he's doing. Seeing the reaction from Roeder during the game reminds me of watching a rabbit in a cars headlights, he doesn't know what to do to get out of situations, sometimes he's just sitting on the bench and looks as if the world is just passing him by, maybe he's just cooly working things out, maybe he's clueless.

Sheffield was only one match, so was Birmingham, so was Charlton, Fulham was only one match. Have I forgot anything?
-
Over 76% think he should go or we can't get anybody better, not exactly an endorsement.
-
i suppose it's comforting to know that people have forgotten how bad it was under Souness. the first-half against fulham, for example, while nothing extraordinary whatsoever relative to our performances under Roeder, would've been better than anything we produced in Souness's bad times. let me remind you, Solano partering amdy faye in defensive midfield, Ameobi as our left-winger, Ramage at left-back, no-one at right-wing, boumsong and bramble mistakes galore in defence, statuesque shearer stranded up front etc. as for saying we deserved nothing from the villa match, that's an amazing claim to make, probably more accurate to say we deserved a draw if everything. we totally stunned them for the first 20 mins (the first 20 mins do count you know!) and then naturally you'd expect the team getting beat to have the lion's share of the game, as they have everything to do, while we just need to hang onto a lead (we actually extended it). I'll never forget the shite played under Souness but I'll never forget the Sheffield Utd game, it was as bad as anything I can remember under Souness.
-
You seem to forget that Souness was at the centre of some of our worst publicity, after Shepherd of course, people think Souness was great for ridding us of Bellamy and with him the trouble maker. Souness fell out with Bellamy in the early days when Souness allegedly grabbed Bellamy by the throat. I don't think I could stop myself from hitting my boss if he grabbed my throat, it's called self defence. Souness fell out with Robert and put Souness before the club when dropping Robert from the UEFA Semi-Final. Souness was really a strict disciplinarian, so much so that he was quite happy for Dyer to be bailed out for pissing in the streets and Bowyer and Dyer were both allowed to stay after the worst disciplinary situation I've ever seen by two players while at our club. Souness was only hard on those he couldn't bully into submission.

Roeder isn't good enough for where we want to be, he's done nothing to make me think that he's going to be any better than mediocre at best. A below average appointment who is doing nothing to take the club forward, or at least it looks that way. His transfer activity leaves a lot to be desired and his team selection has been piss poor, certain players are getting too many chances at a cost to our league position, he's clueless. I wouldn't sack him at the minute because the options are limited for a replacement and we'd more than likely screw it up even if better options were available. That’s just my opinion but I’ll stick with it until or unless proven wrong, I’d love to be wrong.
-
That article is baseless, they say "This is a 10-fold increase since the first year of the Premiership and 25% up on the figures for 2005." We all know that's rubbish and has only happened at our club and because it's run so well.
-
I might be wrong but I thought we tried to tap up a young kid from Boro.
-
To think that 10 years ago the table looked like this: 1.Manchester United 2.Newcastle United 3.Arsenal 4.Liverpool
-
@ Carr @ Roeders reaction.
-
I'll agree with that.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere on here. http://www.true-faith.co.uk/html/tbawe.htm The January transfer came and went and following four weeks of inactivity, bar the signing of an American defender on loan from the less than demanding Belgian league with zero Premiership experience and its closure was immediately followed from some absolute nonsense from both Roeder and Shepherd. Roeder's comments on transfers is becoming embarrassing. Two days before the end of the summer window he told the press he expected to make three signings that would delight the fans. We signed Rossi (on loan from Man Utd), Sibierski from Man City Reserves and Olivier Bernard from the scrapheap. In the intervening months we've heard s**** from the club regarding transfer targets and how anxious the manager was to sign players up for the club. And absolutely nothing has happened. Now we are hearing Shepherd talk absolute shiter about how money was available for Roeder to sign the players he wanted (Neill, Warnock and Upsom all left their clubs for new ones) a week after he alleged Sir John's attempted sale of his NUFC shareholding was holding the club back in the transfer market. Make your f****** mind up, Freddie! Now we're hearing Roeder saying he is happy with his squad and trying to kid us on he's happy with the way the transfer window went and he's keeping his powder dry for the summer. Who the f*** do they think they are kidding? The club is an utter shambles. We have no LB worthy of the description at the club, no cover for Martins (the club is attempting to spin some s**** about Owen being fit before the end of the season but isn't even saying what month - not February, not March, not April - oh, we might see him wave to the crowd on the last day of the season). Luque is still at the club and picking up a massive wedge for absolutely no purpose whatsoever. It is the worst possible scenario and the amount of bullshit Shepherd and Roeder are attempting to pass off on us is an insult to our intelligence. Roeder, overall shouldn't be in the job. He's bumbled along but .... That he is in the job is testimony to the appalling state the club has been left in by Souness and the unattractive proposition we were to proper managers, namely O'Neill. On his appointment many of us speculated whether he would be weak in his dealings with Shepherd and if he would turn out to be a Yes Man. He is not doing his reputation any good if he talks s**** to the press about the personnel in the squad and pretends he's got everything under control and its all going to plan because it plainly isn't. We know he hasn't. Its screamingly f****** obvious he hasn't. The performance at Fulham was absolutely abysmal. The lack of proper full-backs, once again cruelly exposed by an average side. So far this season we have played Edgar, Huntingdon, Taylor, Souness and Ramage out of position in the full back berths. Its an absolute joke we have no cover in those positions. May I remind you all, we let a perfectly decent player, committed club-man and sound 100%er, Aaron Hughes leave fior a paltry £1m 18 months ago. What a f****** joke. How much the club could have done with Hughes this season. This is the squad Roeder is happy with? Up top we have one fit striker on our books and are flying by the seat of our pants. This is the squad Roeder is happy with? Roeder made some big mistakes on Saturday at Fulham. I'm not sure in what world Steven Carr is a better choice for the team than Nobby Solano. We were sorely lacking in a creative sense and with Emre "injured" we desperately needed someone who could play a decent ball in. Why couldn't we have tried something different on Saturday? Perhaps played three at the back with Bramble-Taylor and Onyewu playing behind Dyer-Parker-Butt-Milner-Solano. Having Butt and Parker take up defensive duties and allow Dyer, Milner and Solano bomb on. That formation handed the initiative to a piss poor Fulham team. Instead playing Taylor at RB and the woeful Steven Carr at LB simply to preserve 4-4-2 when we don't have the personnel for it. Damien Duff simply isn't doing enough to be in the side and its to be hoped his lack of impact isn't the indication of someone who has come to SJP with his ambition satisfied at Chelsea and up for a jolly-up at our expense. He simply doesn't look sharp enough. Rushed back from injury? Well, this is Newcastle United after all, the club that didn't operate on Steven Taylor's shoulder for 4 months last season. There is revolution in the air and the club's conduct these last few years has made supporters cynical. The level of mistrust between those in the SJP stands and the blurts in the boardroom is not repeated at any other club in the Premiership. We are a club divided. There is a chasm between the supporters and the Shepherd-Hall bloc that run the club. The powers that be at NUFC should brace themselves for a major hit in season ticket renewals in the summer. Three seasons of f*** ups have taken their toll and there are absolutely no signs whatsoever the club learns any lessons at all. Shepherd Out, Hall Out! Keep On, Keepin' On ...

http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/newcastleunited/chroniclesport/tm_headline=we-failed-to-scale-heights%26method=full%26objectid=18578363%26siteid=50081-name_page.html Glenn Roeder today admitted his game plan at Craven Cottage hadn't paid off. United had tried to outmuscle Fulham's physical strike-force of Heidar Helguson and Brian McBride but both of them netted in the 2-1 win for the Londoners. The Toon boss was hoping to celebrate 12 months in the United hotseat but the Fulham forwards proved to be party poopers on the day after their second-half strikes sunk United. Roeder handed a debut to 6ft 4in US international Oguchi Onyewu at the heart of the defence and selected fit again Titus Bramble alongside him. And even though Nobby Solano was available again, Roeder picked Steven Taylor at right-back ahead of him with Stephen Carr switching back to the left. Roeder told the Chronicle: "I knew Vincenzo Montella went off after 20 minutes against Sheffield United and that Helguson and McBride would play. "Both of them have height and Gooch can deal with that. It was quite appropriate he played. "We have a small squad in terms of height and every single game this season the opposition have been bigger. "I am looking for physical players now when it comes to bringing people in. "We have enough players here who are 5ft 8in or 5ft 9in and when you play like we did at Fulham against two big strikers you need height. "I thought defensively we looked big and strong and by picking a big back four, apart from at left back, it would have paid off. "However, the two goals conceded were poor and I am not happy about them." The victory for Chris Coleman's side means that United find themselves slap bang in the middle of the Premiership today. The defeat at Fulham leaves United 13 points off a Champions League place but also 13 points above the relegation zone with 12 games left. However, the loss means that Fulham have now taken maximum points from United, leaving Roeder disappointed. He added: "It was very disappointing. "We've lost both matches to Fulham this year. We threw the game away at St James' Park this season, and we thought we had a good chance of at least taking a point. "We wanted three and came with the intention of winning the game."

Some might, not all. If he was out for the rest of the season because of an injury picked up in a friendly the majority would be pissed off. I'd be pissed off, I'm sure we all would, I still wouldn't complain because I knew he would play internationals before he came. I didn't complain when Nobby kept going to play for Peru for the same reason, he's got every right to go and should for as long as he wants to play for his country. It just seems that players can play for the home countries but not any others, it's double standards.

That’s confirmation then, his season is over.
