What mess? When you look at it, Houiller's done fairly well in the time he's had. They were all over the place near the end of Kevin McDonald's caretaker stewardship - in 7 or 8 months, Houllier has stabilised them and they even squeezed into the top half. No way man. Half the players at Villa hate/hated Houllier (if reports are correct). He started telling players not to bother turning up and that. I bet their squad was delighted when Houiller went. Footballing wise they hadn't improved from O'Neill, Darren Bents signing being one of the only plus points. P.S Contact between Villa and Brum confimed.

Na, i don't see what the club have to gain by messing around. I'm pretty sure, the powers that be, are keen on Jose staying. Jose is either not sure on what he wants to do or he's waiting for as long as possible for an offer to come in from a club which suits him.

Interesting that Carr seems particularly keen on the lad. I'm not one to assume that every player whom Carr rates is going to be a world-beater but it can't be ignored that our scouts record has been particularly good. Hopefully he seems something really good in this lad. Bare in mind that if he got 10 or 12 goals in the Premiership, his price would probably double from 6 million to 12 million.

Colo is the one player who i really, really don't want to leave. We simply cannot replace him. The thought of Williamson and Taylor at centre half is scary.

Gerrard's past it. He won't ever get to the form of two years ago. Although, we know Dalglish will see him as his fearless leader, along with Carragher (who is even more past it). Making some odd decisions.

He's worth more to us than 3m, even though he has his flaws. He's part of a settled back four, who could we realistically replace him with for 3 million?

Will the club want to pay two top class left backs for a full season in the event Enrique decides he's going to see out his contract? That's an incredibly unlikely scenario TBH. There will be plenty of suitors for him and he's already "undecided" at best.

The last thing i want to happen is to have no left back come september. IF we lose Jose it doesn't matter what money we get for him, what matters is that we have replaced him. It's hard enough replacing someone who wants to leave, let alone replacing someone who won't make his mind up. I like Jose but it's on our terms, not his.

The whole "9m to champions league club" was just Del Boy talk. Never trust any chairman who openly talks about prices for their players. He's in the last year of his contract and by all accounts would love a return to the north east, as well as Whelan openingly admitting that he will let him leave, i think 9m is a very fair price. In fact they would be very lucky to get that sort of money but he's certainly worth it IMO.

I've always been of the view that it is worth spending a "little" (subjective) extra in order to get the main targets in early. I believe it can make such a difference to your season having the players you want in from day one rather than chopping and changing once the players return from pre-season. Obviously, we don't live in a fantasy world or every club would do this but where it's possible i like to see us push deals through. No where near panic stations yet like as it's merely the start of the silly season.

I thought Carroll had a pretty shit second half to the season. Where as Suarez looked one of the best players in the league. Carroll was immense in the first half of the season and we didn't slip half as much as i thought we would when he left.

My gut feeling is that he will see out his last year with us, i hope this is the case.

We'll sell him to the club her wants to go to for a compromise fee, probably £6-8million. It won't happen till the season's about to start though. Aye he will end up leaving on the cheap, right at the end of the window. We MUST replace him though.
