Aren't there any Newcastle sites that do reviews of Academy matches? If somelike, like you, isn't local to the club but wants to know who's up and coming in the Academy, surely there's a site or 2 that does reviews of the matches, seeing those over a season can give a pretty clear indication of who's decent and who's not. Spurs have a couple of sites, an example of the better one is: http://www.spursodyssey.com/0607/u18ca140407.html but if there really isn't something something similar available to Newcastle fans, well, I think that's a bit sad really. You support the club, not just the first team after all.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see them make a bid for Owen tbh. They never replaced their 'goals on legs' player when they sold RVN and no-one questions Owen's ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Whether there is a £12m release clause or if Owen would want to go is more debateable. The other relevant fact is that this info is coming from the NOTW, who 2 weeks ago said Man Utd were lining up a £10m bid for Jermain Defoe. Maybe if they predict a striker making the move to OT each week, they're bound to get one right! For the extra £2m I know who I would prefer!!

Are we after a Director of Football and not a new manager?
Martin Lol replied to KaKa's topic in Football
I for one would certainly welcome Houllier, as Manager rather than as DoF...especially if he was able to bring a few of Lyon's players with him e.g. Benzema, Ben Arfa, Govou, Abidal, Toulalan, Diarra (a couple of them would be fine). I'd be all for putting Roeder back at the Academy - even if in my view is much vaunted "success" there seems to me to be somewhat overhyped - but it would just be nice to have someone fronting up for the club who was a bit more tactically aware, knew how to play tactically to win in Europe, and knew how to develop young players properly - and I'd hope Houllier would also see the value of keeping N'Zogbia rather than letting him go to waste on the reserves/subs bench. Houllier as manager would be awful decision He is starting to ruin Lyon already as he did this with Liverpool before he was sacked I for one would certainly welcome Houllier, as Manager rather than as DoF...especially if he was able to bring a few of Lyon's players with him e.g. Benzema, Ben Arfa, Govou, Abidal, Toulalan, Diarra (a couple of them would be fine). But SBR went and his wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts, not forgetting his respect all over Europe, went with him. The biggest mistake Newcastle have made in the last 10 years imo. Completely agree with you Under SBR we were top 4 team now we are mid table team The fat pig has ruined everything B*llocks imo. We were well on the decline before Sir Bobby left. The mistake was sacking him 4 games in rather than replacing him with a handshake after the 2003-4 season. Wouldn't disagree with the point you make but the point I was making was instead of throwing him out with the dishwater he could have been utilised as a DoF. He had knowledge, experience, contacts and prospective incoming players would also know him and his standing in the game. Newcastle may have been in decline at the point of SBR's departure but this was accelerated once he had gone. -
I think you've got the right ideas if what I've been hearing is accurate. Robbo is being questioned rather than actively seeking a replacement yet, Dervitte would probably have been pushing hard if it hadn't been for his ACL, Meira is on the radar as was Metzelder before he opted for Real Madrid and there others being mentioned. Carrick was the big loss though, he was tapped up, told Spurs he wanted to go to them but also said he wouldn't rock the boat if Manusa wouldn't offer a fair price. That's why we got what we did and why there's no animosity to him. Having said all that, he still hasn't been replaced, Zokora was to play with Carrick, not replace him. Add the ongoing efforts for Davies, Bale and Barnes and I wouldn't be surprised to see half a dozen new faces in the next window.

I wonder how many of the players agree with Redknapp's comments though?
-
So you agree that loaning the likes of Klinsmann & Berti to keep you in the division is a c*ntish thing to do. They cancelled each other out tbh, Klinsmann scoring goals to keep us up and Berti doing his damnedest to get us down!! Klinsmann backed out of the agreement for him to stay 2 years the first time he signed for Spurs. If it had been down to me, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to come back a second time. Tottenham legend? Not in my eyes. Supremely talented but a mercenary all the same.
-
Think you're probably right. Typical ex-scum player though you'll probably come up trumps with his replacement coming from Cork and costing about £25k!! BTW, I still think you've got one of the most astute managers in the premiership.
-
Can never really understand what possesses anybody to go on that site. It's never a true reflection of what the majority of Spurs fans really think.

I read yesterday that Spurs that last year was the only time in 16 years that Spurs finished in the top six, which frankly amazed me, and possibly puts last season in perspective. FWIW I've quite enjoyed watching their UEFA games this season, unfashionable thought it may be to admit it here. Yep, it was a record of never in the top 6, never in the bottom 6, since the premiership was created. Epitome of mediocrity! Spurs have played some half decent stuff this season though it has been interspersed with some dross, bit of a rollercoaster ride not knowing what to expect when you turn up at WHL! Seems like there will be changes in the not too distant future though. There's definitely been (at least) 2 meetings about using Wembley for 2 years though I don't know if it would be for a redevelopment of WHL or a new stadium. Perhaps more curioser is I was offered a bet last night if I thought Levy would still be at the helm on 15 June 2008, £4k at 6/4. Betting those levels is not for me but the fella who offered the bet knows him pretty well, I know Levy is very much a lover of the Florida sunshine, got homes over there. I'm not convinced Levy won't be selling sometime soon. Don't have a clue what the significance of that date is though. It did cross my mind that Levy might be pursuing a redevelopment of WHL to maybe get a better price in the same way it's been mooted here with FFS and the expansion of SJP, but other than that, don't have a clue.

I don't see SGE as a DoF, not in a month of Sundays! Someone will probably revive this post when SGE is unveiled by FFS as Newcastle's Sporting Director, a new position within the Club, interviews with Jim White etc -
With his tainted background, Sidwell would never opt for Spurs! Always said he would be headed for SJP, seen or heard nothing to make me change my mind. What I said here last month............. Quote from: KaKa on March 20, 2007, 11:43:10 PM Quote from: Ally on March 20, 2007, 11:31:28 PM The Times have a canny knack of getting football gossip right, you know. They often slip things like that into an article, without any quotes etc but then in a few weeks/months it'll come true. Happened most recently with Mascherano, no other paper really talked about it but they kept pressing it every day. Not seen a lot of Sidwell tbh, is he an attacking midfielder? Hmmm...I would say more of a play maker who gets into decent goal scoring positions. Doesn't really drive forward past people per se. More of a Fabregas or Alonso type than a Gerrard type. Lovely passer and distributor (probably due to his Arsenal upbringing!). Good height too at 5 foot 10! Pretty fair description imho. Talented player but tainted by his background! Tbh, always thought he would be headed to SJP, the only other clubs I've seen him linked to were Blackburn and Pompey. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=37581.0

Kerzhakov - Newcastle have had £1.7 million bid rejected
Martin Lol replied to stozo's topic in Football
I think you've missed the boat now. That's normally the Spurs way, to offer a ridiculously low figure for a player who is obviously worth a lot more. -
It's easy to say we had too many defenders injured, square pegs in round holes, gash refereeing decisions etc, the simple fact is that Spurs came up well short in the first half. Put in a good performance then and we probably would have progressed. We didn't and we've paid the price. I'm not overly depressed about it though, to get to that stage isn't something we've achieved in the recent past so progress is still being made and that is my criteria for assessing how the team is performing. Solid prospects of qualifying for Uefa next season again, I'll continue to be satisfied if we continue to improve overall on what we did the season before. We may not be assured of 5th place that was achieved last season, but taking into account performances in the 3 cup competitions as well as the premiership, I still think improvement is still ongoing.

Wouldn't argue with that opinion tbh. -
Spurs haven't asked about Wembley as yet. All Wembley have said is that if Spurs made a request it would be considered. Whether that would even be necessary depends on whether WHL is redeveloped upping the capacity to 48/50k or whether it would be a new 55k stadium a mile away. At the last AGM Levy said the course of action would be decided in the next 12 months so presumably we find out at the next AGM. should be moved more than a mile away from that shithole of an area Ideally, the new stadium should be at Hadley Wood, it would save me a journey! Would also be easier for Keane too as he lives about 10 minutes walk away and Robbo is just round the corner. Always been popular with footballers, Davids rented a place here, Bergkamp is still about but I don't know how much time he spends here now. On the downside, Cashley is still here and Terry moved in about 2 years ago but thankfully he's at the cheap end of Camelot Way.................. but with two Bentleys in the drive, JT6 and JT88 Incidentally, there has been a meeting in the past 10 days or so with Wembley, going to try to find out more tonight.

so do we get to judge Sven after just 18 months too? What will be the criteria for success then? 9th? This club needs more than a poxy manager change, a third one in 3 years at that Very true but I don't honestly think SGE would go anywhere near SJP unless the basic structure of the club was overhauled too. The fact that the original article came from the Times gave it a lot of credence, the fact that it was written by Matt Dickinson even more so. One of the best journos around and not often shown to get info wrong. I'm not sure about the writer himself, but the Times spout as much s*** as every other paper, but it's looked upon as more credible because it's a "posh paper". Dickinson did the article with Hoddle which caused his departure as the England manager and was also the first to say that George Graham had been getting brown paper bags whilst at Arsenal. Very well informed imo.
-
I actually think he could take Newcastle to being a consistent challenger to the big 4 if he were appointed, a view shared most of the Spurs fans on my forum. "The prospect of SGE being followed in by a rich Yank doesn't even bear thinking about" is how one described it.

That thread isn't exactly new, rumours to that effect have been going on for the best part of a year. Not likely to be any decision on what's being done until the AGM.

Newcastle submit £300m plans to develop SJP - Official
Martin Lol replied to kirkwdavis2001's topic in Football
I would have thought number 9 would have had serious attraction. To be the number 9 at SJP.............................. -
I know Spurs often buy a player then loan him out with a view to see if he is better than they have already got. If he's not, he can be sold maybe with a small profit, and the player has been getting experience in the meantime. Davenport wasn't better than Dawson and went, Routledge isn't better than Lennon and will be gone in the summer. I'm not necessarily saying it's the right and proper thing to do but they are youngish and are getting experience. I think the principle would be wrong if we were talking about older players.
