To be fair Shak, that poster was the exception rather than the rule. Most seemed to have kept grip of reality. I did say they'd started off well tbh. There's one or two who you can see know the truth, just can't bring themselves to say it. Which is fair enough. I'm convinced Bubble07 is KD, his response "shearer is a better goalscorer but berbatov is the better footballer." I did note the similarity in the phraseology...................

On KUMB someone is saying £82k pw! Some other bloke says: I am struggling to see a positive in this signing as he has been a complete w.nker at every club he has signed for. I have a close contact at Blackburn Rovers and he said he was the most arrogant player he had seen at the club. My only hope is that Lucas can keep him in check...

TBH I think you're on a hiding to nothing here. You're trying to compare players who patently are nothing like each other. Shearer as a physical 'centre forward' style striker in his heyday had few equals in the world, let alone in England. Berba is very much in the Bergkamp or Sheringham style, much more technical and far less physical, but you can't say he's in the top 3 in Europe at what he does . He has the capability to be world class but I don't see an excellent second half of one season justifying comparison with a striker (of a different style) who maintained his very best form for about 5/6 years which in itself is an achievement. Similarly, Berba is no more similar to Beardsley as he is Shearer, Beardsley was more in keeping with Robbie Keane than Berbatov and significantly better than Keane too.

The same Peter Kenyon who never had a meeting with Ashley Cole??

Seems like when we have signed a replacement, Chelski will have themselves a new RB. Levy was intending to say no, Chimbonda wants to go to the bluescum (no surprise there) so it'll be another Carrick deal, take them for as much as we can. Levy wants SWP and Diarra thrown into the mix. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes all the way to the end of the window. The saving grace for Spurs is that Chimbonda has 3 years left so if we can't get the right replacement, there isn't any desperation for the sale to go through.

Big risk agreed, I can't remember ever seeing him play so I can't say how good he is. Comolli thinks Kaboul is good enough to take Dawson's position now (better than Desailly at the same age he reckons) but King won't be fit for the start of the season in any case so probably Kaboul and Dawson to start off with Rocha and Gardner (if he hasn't left) the backups. Bent has already proved himself able (if not brilliant) in the premiership but a definite upgrade on Mido, Bale I don't see starting too often to start with tbh. LW and a strong central MF still being sorted, another RB assuming Chimbonda does go, it wouldn't surprise me to see 4 more still coming in. The one who will get plenty of playing time I think will be Taarabt, all the coaching staff are raving about his ability.

. Christ, i hope not!!. Hope he's worth it, it's a lot of money. I'd almost given up on him ever being announced, signed last month but been waiting for Auxerre to get a replacement in.

The Sun have got it right again, another increased bid. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007300911,00.html Jose's £12m bid for Chimbonda By DAVE KIDD July 05, 2007 CHELSEA have upped their bid for Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda to £12million after being priced out of a move for Daniel Alves. Blues boss Jose Mourinho was snubbed in a £10m offer for the French right-back last month but has tested the resolve of Tottenham chief Martin Jol with an increased bid. Mourinho was trying to hijack Liverpool’s bid for Brazilian full-back Alves but has been put off by Seville’s £20m asking price. Chelsea were only prepared to stretch to £13m for Alves, who is likely to move to Anfield. Chimbonda was a £4.5m signing from Wigan last summer and Jol wants to hang on to the player, despite a large potential profit. Mourinho is desperate for a right-back even though Glen Johnson will return to Stamford Bridge after a season-long loan at Portsmouth. The Blues boss has lost faith in his fellow Portuguese Paulo Ferreira as a first-choice right-back. France midfielder Florent Malouda fuelled reports he could be joining Chelsea in a £12.5m deal after he left Lyon’s training camp yesterday. I think it will happen this time when a replacement has been brought in. Corluka, Boswinga and Sagna are all options to replace him, Lassana Diarra and/or SWP are distinct possibilities to move to WHL.

I don't think Sheff Utd will win, but the fight isn't yet over. http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?rpc=401&type=sportsNews&storyID=2007-07-05T004034Z_01_NOOTR_RTRMDNC_0_India-283218-1.xml&archived=False Sheffield United take fight to High Court Thu Jul 5, 2007 12:43 AM IST By Simon Hart LONDON (Reuters) - Sheffield United have launched an appeal in the High Court claiming the arbitration panel in their case against West Ham United made an error in law. A statement on the Premier League's Web site on Wednesday said the Yorkshire club had decided to continue their fight despite Tuesday's decision by a three-man panel to dismiss their claim for a new disciplinary commission to rule on the case. That decision appeared to confirm the Sheffield club would start next season in the second division, with West Ham in the top flight. The league statement on Wednesday said: "The Premier League has just been advised by our legal team that Sheffield United have launched an appeal in the High Court... against the award of our arbitration panel yesterday... "...this is a very narrow window of appeal where Sheffield United are claiming that the (panel) made an error in law by failing to send back the original decision to the Independent Disciplinary Commission for reconsideration." PLANS UNCHANGED The Premier League added it did not expect Sheffield United's appeal to be successful and underlined that it would "not be altering any plans for next season." The Bramall Lane club were relegated on the final day of the season when West Ham sealed their survival thanks to a Carlos Tevez-inspired win at Manchester United. The Bramall Lane club had challenged the decision of an independent Premier League commission to fine West Ham, rather than dock them points, for breaking rules when signing Argentines Tevez and Javier Mascherano last August. West Ham were found guilty of "dishonesty and deceit" by the commission on April 27 and were fined a record 5.5 million pounds ($11.09 million). But it also ruled that a deduction of points would not be "proportionate punishment" as the club had new owners and points lost in April would have meant relegation. Sheffield United countered that breaches of ownership rules in the contracts of Tevez and Mascherano meant West Ham fielded ineligible players and a points deduction was inevitable.

Can't disagree. The way Uefa carve up the prize money is illogical to say the least. Spurs got nearly 9x the prize money that Newcastle got for minimal further progress in the competition, I would love to hear a Uefa official try to justify the prize money apportionment as being proportional to the progress in the competition. My apologies in advance should anyone consider these comments condescending or detrimental to NUFC.

Apologies if it's been posted before. http://gb.setanta.com/portal/article/football::england?open&articleid=c5814b581bb04d838025730e0040b1df Nice defender Rod Fanni claims Newcastle, Everton and West Ham are interested in bringing him to England. Fanni is keen to move on from Nice, having helped guide the club to Ligue 1 safety last term, and is ready to try his luck in England. The 25-year-old says his agent has yet to field a firm offer, but is hopeful of finding a new club this summer. "A host of clubs are interested in me," Fanni exclusively told setanta.com. "They have approached my agent but haven't made any offer for the moment. "Three English clubs contacted my representative. I can tell you their names: Newcastle, Everton and West Ham. "There is nothing concrete, for the moment." Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has made no secret of his desire to boost his defensive options and he has already raided the French market to bring in David Rozehnal from Paris Saint Germain. Everton have yet to show their hand in the transfer market, while West Ham may step up a gear following confirmation they will not be relegated over the Carlos Tevez affair, and the trio may be set to fight it out to sign Fanni.

Never made an anti-Newcastle comment, never mentioned Spurs. Simply copied and pasted the Mail's article. How you interpret that is your problem. Incidentally, I did look around the Uefa site to see if I could verify the figures, I couldn't find anything, maybe you can. i'm intruiged as to your reasons for posting the article in the first place, care to enlighten us? Quite simple really. I saw something relating to Newcastle that hadn't been posted before. I thought Newcastle fans might be interested. It wasn't something I made up, just copied and pasted. As I said before, I tried to check on the Uefa site (because I couldn't believe the difference in the incomes either) but never found the relevant pages. I didn't make any condescending or snide comments, didn't even mention Spurs, simply said that £303,758 (the prize money) was hardly worth the effort. I stand by that comment, the prize money wasn't worth the effort. I didn't make any comment about tv fees, gate receipts, any other income at all, just spoke about the Uefa prize money. I don't understand why when anyone else posts, Newcastle fans or others alike, a discussion takes place. Even a thread like this gets everyone believing there is a hidden agenda. If people go looking for one, they'll invariably find one tbh.

That's how much Newcastle got for their Uefa Cup run. Hardly worth the effort. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=466020&in_page_id=1779&ito=newsnow The four English Champions League qualifiers each got £3,646,272 for being in the group stages, while Tottenham earned £2,917,724 for their 10-game run. Arsenal received the lowest sum due to their fourth-placed Premiership finish in 2006 and their failure to progress beyond the last 16. However, they still received £10million more than Tottenham. The inequality highlights the gulf between the Premier League's top four, who consistently qualify for the Champions League, and the rest. Perhaps the most damning statistic is that Levski Sofia made £3,755,587 from losing all six Champions League group games, around £500,000 less than Sevilla got for winning the UEFA Cup. Champions League prize money AC Milan (winners) £26,721,694 Chelsea £23,394,444 Liverpool £21,744,696 Manchester United £21,282,373 Arsenal £13,008,610 UEFA Cup prize money Sevilla (winners) £4,219,587 Tottenham £2,917,724 Newcastle £303,758

Word It's an absolute disgrace the way the whole thing has been handled and the length of time it's taken to get to this stage. Scudamore should consider his position but he won't, he's too busy enjoying the benefits of being at the head of sport's greatest gravy train.

Seems like Sneijder prefers a move to La Liga. Having seen the weather here I'm not surprised!!

Silva/Arsenal - Could be good or bad news re: Martins

Or it could be a £7.5 million fee with a hell of a lot of addons for apearances, goals, winning certain trophies and percentage of next sale ect roughly adding up to a maximum of £16 million. Could be, I was only quoting one Croatian media site. Dinamo's official site is just as vague as everyone else: Unofficial sources say the deal is worth €24m of which 'Dudu' will get €4m and the club €20m. It is hard to believe the premiership club payed that much for the Croatian international. http://www.dinamozagreb-online.com/news29.htm -

It's also being said in the Croatia media that Spurs have bid for Vedran Corluka. As Chelski won't accept no about Chimbonda and keep coming back, maybe that's a prelude to a Chimbonda/SWP and/or Diarra exchange. -
It looks like the names of Northumbria buses latest batch of new drivers. Ah, you too have the Eastern European bus drivers thing going on? You'll struggle to find one from further west than Krakow down here. Bless. Who is filling the void left behind in Poland? Are the buses in Poland being driven by Africans Mackems tbh. Might see a good football team while they're over there.

Is your source what the Croats said? I dont think Arsene would spend 16 million on someone unproven in the prem and also a club record fee He did spend around £13m on Wiltord & Reyes though. They were based on apperances and winning s***. Initial fee was nowhere near that if im right Doesnt mean its anywhere near the 24m Think the €24m might be including the player's wages for the 4 years of his contract. A Croatian website is saying fee to Dynamo is €11m and Silva will receive €13m (presumably not all next week)!! -
Spurs have got 5 1st year Academy players that were in England u16 squads last season, Andros Townsend, Adam Smith, Saulo Asajile, Ryan Mason and Dean Parrett. There's serious optimism about Parrett and Smith but just as easily could be all of them falling by the wayside over the next couple of years.

Never do usually always undisclosed and noone usually ever finds out unless other club declares it! I think they have to, they would be breaking rules of the LSE if they didn't. Its making me think i am incorrect in my declaration they are a PLC but i remember sending cheques to "Arsenal Football Club PLC" :S Think you'll find that Arsenal Holdings plc is an Ofex company meaning limited requirements to such announcements compare to properly listed companies. -
Nor can I. They're still hoping he will sign a new contract and stay at Spurs but I can't see that happening. Seems like Nugent will be speaking to Pompey in the next day or two.
