  1. ....and 2002, and going the whole season unbeaten in 2004, and CL finalists....and....and......
  2. he can afford to look at Europe - its one of football's biggest myths that he spends no money. £10 mill on Hleb, £7 mill on Rosicky, £7 mill on Adebayor, £12 mill on Walcott - all the last 2 seasons suggests he does and can afford to buy from Europe. I take that point, but over a 10 year period, his transfer dealings show he's actually made money or come very close to it, when idiots like ourselves, and yourselves have a transfer deficit of approaching £200m as an educated guess. That to me in modern football is unparalelled. Think of nobodies he's made stars: Anelka Toure Eboue Petit - converted from defender to one of the best midfielders in the world (and yes he was) Fabregas ....the list is endless...........
  3. You're the biggest prick I've seen on the internet. Bar none. I'll not explain why, but I will explain why Wenger is the best manager in football today, when I wake up in 6 hours.
  4. mackems.gif You know what, I wear my heart on my sleeve, when I wrote that I tried to ignore our deficiencies and look at how well we were doing. If being optimistic and looking on the bright side of things regarding the club I love is a sin, I'm a sinner. What I don't need is some Scottish arsehole from Edinburgh who supports two sides, with character so weak he's bullied day in day out in his call centre job taking the piss. The sad reality is though fans voting with our feet will happen but not to the extent that it will dislodge Shepherd. There's no tangible waiting list now, it was 15-20,000 apparently before Souness, and having jacked the book last year, I don't care where we are I will be getting it back next season. It hurts me to say I'm part of a big matrix, he knows he's got me, and he's got many more. If the Toon only average 42 or 43,000 next season which is a possibility I can only imagine the abuse we as fans will get but how much do we have to take? I really feel sad about Newcastle, I honestly do. I give it the big bravado all of the time "we're moving in the right direction, things are looking great, we still make £90m a year, we've got England internationals, Roeder's doing alright." I delude myself into a comfort zone all of the time. No disrespect to Guvs, Manchester City are shit. They didn't dominate the game, but were worthy winners, so what does that say about us? The best player on the pitch, I saw in the flesh in 2000, at Euro 2000 in Brussels, and he scored an unreal goal, yet he was the only quality on the pitch, he's not a City player yet, and we should sign him. I mean it as well, we should sign him. Now what a come down from the last few years for us though against Man City up here. The last twice we've played Charlton at home have been 0-0 non-events two of the most boring games in the last decade, now yes your ill-informed will say "you've won fuck all for 38 year why whinge now" but we pay top four transfer fees, top four wages, get top four attendances, is it not right we should expect at least a genuine fuckin fight at home to Man City and Charlton?!?! we're a victim of our own expectation in many ways, but fucking hell, look at Wenger 10 years at Arsenal making the fucking club a profit, Dein running it well, fucking gaining a world wide fan base comparable to anyone in 10 fucking years, yet Fatty I know best "and will never appoint another foreign manager after Gullit" has killed us. "Look at the toon's youth system". I'll open myself right up here, by saying 5 of the best 7 English players of the last 25 year have come from within 8 miles of Newcastle. Yet where are they now. Who has Tyneside produced in the last 5 years? Carrick is a good player yes. Did he slip though the net? Yes. Taylor shows signs of being a top class, but in centre half terms he's a baby who's prone to mistakes. That really is it since Shearer, who was another who slipped through the youth system. Clarkie and Stevie Watson were class players, they were, but they never achieved what their abilities should've demanded. So of the current crop of geordies all that has come through, and fuck Chopra never good enough, is Carrick and he slipped through the net. Of Bryan Robson, Waddle, Gazza, Beardsley and Shearer only Gazza was caught before anyone could get him, and in a football area which has equals, like Manchester and Glasgow in terms of importance of the game on peoples lives, but no piers, that is a disgrace. In 2007 it hasn't changed. We have some decent youths coming though, but you know yourself when a good youngun is coming through a clubs ranks, everyone hears about it years before they get to the first team squad about what a world beater they could be. We evidently have no one like that. We're in 2007 and fat fuckin Freddie insists he'll never appoint a foreign coach. All of the top clubs now, have youth systems teaming with foreign talent, 15, 16, 17 from Africa, all over Europe, America and why is that? Because people like Wenger know the key thing is to developing new talent is to cast the net as far as they can. We can't rely on Tyneside as a fishing field anymore, if you've got a shit net, all you're going to catch is fuckin empty tins of coke, and fuckin tadpoles. If you've got a big quality net you're going to get the big fish, and Wenger appreciated this a long long time ago. Look at the players Wenger grabbed off the streets virtually (some via the clubs links with Beveren which he's heavily involved with)....George Weah, Petit, Eboue, Toure, fuckin Henry from the french football school. Many people mentioned it a while ago, the toon need and always have needed a top manager to take us to the top. The best managers historically in English football have always been Scottish, certainly in the last 50 years, there are no great Scottish managers anymore other than Fergie, the last great English manager was Robson, it's time to look for a foreign manager, and we should start using Arsenal as the template to being a brilliant club. Not just us, but every team that strives to be fantastic. The only way I can think of that we're better than Arsenal is our fans are probably more passionate, apart from that, they are the epitome of what I want us to become, I might sound fickle, and I've backed Roeder, but until we get a top foreign manager to change our ideas we'll be trailing in their wake.
  5. I agree, so why take that jump?

Oh I see, "WE'RE THE TOON YOU FUCKIN JOCK SMB c***" was incisive, witty and relevant. It was very relevant looking at the list of clubs the Scotsman put up, but evidently you couldn't grasp why. Let's move on and have nice lives.

  11. We need a w****** smiley on this board. There's WUM's and there's nobheads, but here we have an example of someone just making a tit of themselves. Isn't that quote kind of making the point, Stevie? I'm not sure who is the "nobhead" you are alluding to - me, Invicta or MON? Mate, I've got nothing against you, you've made a few good points, and most people who are passionate about football will have views with a biased slant towards their club, so I certainly wouldn't label you as a "nobhead". The other lad you mentioned, without doubt is a cazzo.
  12. Based on top flight average, ours pisses on all of there's at 35,000 I believe. Size of the club was always based on fanbase in the past, which is why Manchester United despite a bleak 26 years, were always perceived as the biggest club. It's how Wenger judges Arsenal's status. It's just a new gimpy feature of the modern fan who has changed this, You can shift the goalposts any which way to suit any kind of argument Stevie, the truth of the matter is attendances or the size of a club mean f*** all to anyone, or shouldn't because as Indi correctly states, they mean f*** all. For all our amazing attendances and how big we supposedly are, it hasn't done us a great deal of good has it? NO, but all I was doing was querying Victoria's point that Villa have a potentially MASSIVE fanbase, and as usual these things go off at a tangent. the statment was actually meant to illustrate MON going to Villa was a comparable environment to that which he could have found here but it is funny to see what meaning you took from it Comparable to the environment he could have found here??? Is that why in August he said: We need a w****** smiley on this board. There's WUM's and there's nobheads, but here we have an example of someone just making a tit of themselves. MON has ambitions on 11th place? well I thought that was obvious old chap Just avoid the point. Stick to posting about getting bullied in your insurance sales call centre, it's the last time I'll address you.

  14. Mate, my point was that with investment, and hope, our potential is definitely there. if you look at attendance stats from pre 1990 - I'm assuming it was 1990 when SJH ousted McKeag and started instilling some ambition in Newcastle, but forgive me if I'm wrong - the average attendances of both clubs have not been hugely different over history. There've been times when yours have been better than ours, there were times when ours were better than yours. However, this somehow equates as Villa have never shown potential for great support, yet Newcastle always did, and Villa's potential is up there with that of Crystal Palace and Portsmouth? Get a grip. Mat if we won the league and were champions of Europe, even in the 80's 70,000 would've been too small, and that's a fact. Yet only 26,000 of you could be arsed on average. We've not won a domestic trophy for 50 odd years, you have and you've won the biggest cup of them all. And what exatly does that prove? That NUFC have a bigger fanbase or more potential? I don't think anyone would dispute that, it still wouldn't mean anything though and to be fair to Villa, they share their City with many clubs, we share ours with none which often gets overlooked and is without a doubt a huge contributing factor towards our abnormally high in preportion to success, attendances. They share their city with one club, West Bromwich isn't in Birmingham. They play in an area which is the second most densely populated metropolitan area in Britain. There are five clubs within 15 miles, which contributes to the reason why they'll never have a truely massive fanbase. No disrespect to brummies, and I've seen Brummies admit this, but they're seen as backward, as a backwater, forgotten by the media. For this reason they'd never have national appeal neither.

If you think any English club would have pulled more than 70,000 on a regular basis in the early 1980s, then you're clearly off your rocker. Man Utd would've done in the early 80's if Old Trafford was bigger, that was predominantly local fans and based on only coming in the top four.

  19. So your point is what? That based on your (not particularly strong) analysis of the situaiton, Roeder was the best man for the job? Thats an unmintigated pile of donkey s****. The Shola Ameobi of arguments. Shola Ameobi of all arguments??? I'd say more like the Lee Payne of all arguments.
  20. What is a massive fan base though? It is my view other than the three that regularly draw over 50,000, only a succesful Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester City and perhaps cough splutter choke, Tottenham could do the same. I don't think you'll ever have the fanbase to command such support, that's all my opinion is, and there's evidence to support it.
  21. Completely agree with Biffa from NUFC.COM. You really are laughable, mate. I make a point that Invicta was talking about our potential fanbase, and you go off on one. Feeling threatened or something? You're incredibly defensive about something. I was at both of those games mentioned. Firstly, Reading did bring as many fans as you did. They sold their allocation. Secondly, if we got more to watch us play Reading than we did for our match against you, what other inference could you possibly draw from that? They aren't my words they're the words of nufc.com I don't care what inference you could draw from that, but Reading had behind the goal but not the paddock bit up the touch line, you had to open more seats for us, as pay on the gate. If you're trying to say Reading are a bigger attraction than us, fine. The opinion of Aston Villa fans is about as relevant as the opinions of Invicta Toon. It's only 3 or 4 years ago Newcastle would give you, your second or third highest gate of the season every year. Anyway all I was saying was, the potential of Aston Villa's fanbase at it's peak isn't greater than the potential of Portsmouth or Crystal Palace.
  22. Much like yourselves before you got an ambitious board willing to spend money and finally started getting a whiff of success, you mean? He said "potential". The thing is you've had success and still couldn't get the numbers. Second in 1990 and 1993, averaging 25,000 and 29,000. Second to us was success, we mid table non-entities and we're still averaging over 50,000, that is a club with a huge potential fanbase. 34,000 when you won the fuckin league, and 26,000 in the season you won the European Cup. Sunderland have more potential than Villa by far. A huge potential fanbase to me is a club who at their peak could average 80,000 fans: i.e Man Utd, Newcastle, Arsenal, Celtic FULL STOP, THERE'S NOBODY ELSE. You seem to be neglecting a few facts. In 1993, we averaged 29k, yes you are right. But you dont mention that it iwas the third highest average in the Premier League that season. Same with 1990 - average attendances across the league 20K. Arsenal only managed 33k FFS. When we won the league? Are you aware of what football crowds were like in the early 1980s? 1980-1 average crowd in Div 1 = 24,000. 1982 = 22k. The early 80's yes I'm well aware of what gates were in the early 80's, better than they were in the mid 80's, when you were barely scraping 15,000 as an average in the top flight. Newcastle's 30,000 in 1984 was the third best in England despite being in the second division. We're the only club to my knowledge, to take over 14,000 away on more than one, occasion, Liverpool 84, Spurs 87, the potential to have a massive fanbase, was ALWAYS evident here. It never has been at Aston Villa. Ever. Gates in the early 80's..... What like Manchester United's 52,000 in 1980. In your year of being reigning champions, you only averaged 26,000, two years later we averaged almost 5,000 more in division two. To say Aston Villa potentially have a MASSIVE FANBASE, is the same as saying Crystal Palace potentially have a massive fanbase.
  23. mackems.gif "Aston Villa huge potential fan base" mackems.gif a club who haven't averaged over 40,000 in half a century. Oh to have the knowledge of your average Euro96 band wagon jumper. i'll give you heskey then, can't say I do take much interest in the championship teams. Substitute his name for Andy Cole if you like, point still stands as for your other points, laughable and ludicrous as ever Laughable? The only laughable thing, is that someone with such a piss poor football knowledge spends half his life on this message board. As soon as I see Invicta Toon, I think to myself, this post is going to be a disgrace to all genuine toon fans, because there's no one one this board, who genuinely has no clue about Newcastle and football in general like you. think whatever you like Stevie, at the end of the day it's you who has the odd ideas about NUFC and its potential / resources, and is scared of mice at the sake of repeating myself, like I would take lessons in support from a bloke like you how's your chelsea ticket application going btw? I've got my mates ticket for Chelsea, meet me before the game and we'll discuss it, and we'll see if you're as big a w*** in person as you are on here. I meant your Stamford Bridge season ticket btw. Seeing as how you think a club with resources deserves do well an all Absolutely pathetic.
