Aye, that's why over a million tickets were sold at the recent world cup. To be fair, people don't spend money on Sky subscriptions to watch the women's world cup, they spend it to watch the EPL, La Liga and Champions League. If there was as many sqillions of £$£$£$£$£$£ floating around the women's game as there is in the men's game then I could understand them deserving a bigger slice of the cake, but there blatantly isn't and anybody who says there is is kidding themselves. If all males were as reluctant to get it as you are, then no wonder lads are doing so poorly in their GCSE's and A Levels. It's not about comparison to the men's game, it's about comparitive compensation (for the wages they lost) with Sweden and the USA, who are of an approximate standing (including financially) in WOMEN's football. There's one paragraph in the article about that. There's another paragraph about the women's game being 100yrs behind the men's game. There's further paragraphs about broadcasting/sponsorship money issues. all it says about the mens game is that which it would not have had, if things had been left to run their natural course by the way. Women were playing football at the start, until the FA banned them. All it says about sponsorship issues is that they are looking for more sponsorship, and get more broadcasting. No where does it say that they want a slice of any pie that men want to gorge on.

Thought they were all supposed to be lesbians anyway mind, but even if not most of them are too young to be married, so I don't really see how the joke makes sense.

That's what money is for, dumbass.

Aye, wonder how long I would get away with spamming another thread with crap like some of the posts above before getting banned?
-
but they had to take time off work (unpaid) to go to the world cup, that's the point. Now they have to work extra to catch up the money. Therefore they are falling behind Sweden and the USA, which are also semi proffessional, but get compensated better.
-
It's not 16k though. That's what it would work out at, IF they played the world cup all year. (Which they obviously don't) It was £40 a day for the world cup, which in a lot of cases would not cover loss of earnings.
-
Aye, it's just compensation for loss of earnings. Like Aluko said If they are serious about improving the women's game then it is essential to at least compensate to the level of earnings that the players lost, and comparable to Sweden or USA, otherwise the hours missed in training will always hold the game back in this country. In other words they could earn more in an office, so where is the incentive? (Obviously wanting to play is one thing, but survival is another)

I could have sworn I read a recent interview where Shearer said he wouldn't be interested anytime soon, and that the speculation made him cringe. Although I do agree he'd make a good coach, I don't think Allardyce needs the added pressure of being in the shadow of Shearer. Let him decide himself who he wants to bring in.

FWIW I think Solano has been replaced by Geremi. Can play Right Back, Defensive Midfield and Right Midfield, and can take a free kick. Or so his past record states anyway, he has not played up to form so far. I think Dyer has been replaced by Smith. Midfield or Striker. Crap at either. I didn't think it made sense at the time and I still don't but I think Sam was probably hoping Barton would drive the midfield, and he got injured. To answer the topic question though, I think that the money was there, but it was difficult to attract the players, given the mess we found ourselves in. Also Sam needed to fill out the squad and stabilise it, which he has done to some extent. (Not great though yet!) We need a creative midfielder, & maybes replace Shola and for the players to gell consistently as a team, and I think once that happens we will be alright. (If he finds the best 11 and sticks with it!)

and then there was the noise the Besiktas fans made in the home leg against Liverpool, chanting and singing purely non stop for 90 minutes. I don't know where they got their energy from, but if the noise at SJP was even half as good as that the atmosphere would be amazing!
-
Well, FWIW, I think that Zogs and Milner should have started, but having said that I thought that Emre and Geremi had both played wide at their previous clubs? (I picked that up from what others have said, not really sure how accurate it is) Anyway, if it is true it would explain tactical justification, even if it was the wrong move. If not then obviously it proves nowt. Someone else can look it up and find out!

the True Faith boys get it right. (and disagree with the NUFC.com boys!) but it didn't need another thread!

Owen return NOT a risk - surgeon also, like Owen said - Craig Bellamy has been to the same surgeon, had the same op and is returning earlier, but no one is going on about him.
-
That made no sense at all did it? And Taylor for Faye? Why? What didn't make sense to you How was Butt Do you know what SH*T is ? That is how he performed today....Emre should have come on for Butt from the first 15 minutes as even a blind person could see Butt was playing crap...Geremi should have stayed on... Taylor was horrible too and Faye should have replaced much much earlier.... SAM you are an idiot...honestly Sam was a joke today... You misunderstood me. I was agreeing - I meant that it made no sense to leave Emre on the bench until late. Not your post.

I've been saying this for weeks to anyone who will listen, but people very rarely listen to me. He's an overrated liability and was found out today.

Well, Emre came on last night - so assuming he didn;t get injured again, then you have to assume he's available for the weekend. Barton was due back 'end of September' but heard nothign more since - but potentially he could be back in the next week or so. Duff is probably out for another month or two (at least) - So assuming Enrique is settled enough, its down to N'Zogbia to make that left wing position his own, and make Duff fight his way back. On Newcastle World theres an interview with Emre, and he seems positive that he is back. He also says he wants to stay at Newcastle. Loves the fans and the City. Good news if he can stay fit? I think so, he's a canny good player on his day, and we need that creative spark in the midfield. also ... according to .com Joey Barton warmed up with the other players at half time, so he must be on his way back now. Yes we do need a creative spark in the middle but Emre has clearly shown in his two seasons at the club that he wont be the man to provide it. his form is not always great but he's much more creative than what we're playing at present. I think he will have trouble keeping Joey Barton out of the team, but it's got to be more productive than Nicky Butt + Geremi in the centre? Personally I think we all hope for better but it's as good as it gets until January now.

That's not really a fair comparison is it? Everyone knows the ANC is in January so you take this into consideration when signing them, however if Martins struggled by all of December even though he was clearly injured just to play in the ANC then I'd be pretty pissed off too, especially if we knew he would need an operation when he returned. It's a deliberately unfair comparison, as I think that a lot of the criticism of EMO is unfair. Especially about things he hasn't even done yet! I always think that we expect the worst because we never believed we actually deserved to have a player like that at the Toon, and it's almost like a self fulfilling prophecy. It's obvious he loves playing for England, he always has, so he's bound to want to keep playing if he can but why turn that into a stick to beat him with? I would have thought it was a medical decision, not his to make or otherwise it would affect his insurance?
-
If Oba Martins goes to the African Nations Cup in the New Year I think that his priorities are obvious too! I know what you mean in a way, but doesn't anyone actually want England to qualify? Cos without EMO they've got no chance! Up until Shearer retired from England he was just the same, he always wanted to play for his country, he would have been dissapointed to miss out on the qualifiers as well (if that is the case) Anyway, Sam said if he needs the hernia operation he will have it, and not delay it for England. As it should be.

Setanta do. Don't know if they are showing this match though?

6-1, sorry. I'm sure they're all trying their hardest, or something equally condescending. no it's alright really, they are crap, they have had a crap world cup, but I think England have done very well today. (I do think that they (Argentina) have come a long way in 10 years though. Just wanted to say that as well)
