Nothing wrong with that. Didn't we reject a 30 million offer for Carroll not so long ago only to see them coming back with 5 million more? I have said earlier Twente are notoriously hard negotiators. If Dekka thought he could just go there and pick their best players up on the cheap he was well mistaken. Why not? We did with Tiote We sold one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership to the richest football club the world has ever seen for a mere 6 million, yet you wouldn't call us soft touches in negotiation, would you? Besides, Tiote was a fringe player for them, Luuk de Jong is there best and most important player by some distance. Hardly comparable really..

I think there twitter account has something like 150 followers as well. It's their local rag. I'd say it's about as reliable as you can get with regards to FC Twente's transfer dealings.. Like our local rag...? lets be more specific than that, like Lee Ryder (the other local rag writers occasionally get something right) Like a reliable local rag that have direct connections to the higher echelons of the club and will double check before they print or publish anything. Our written press is nothing like the filth you have in your country..

Ball's in his court now. If he really fancies us this is when he pressures his club into accepting a more than reasonable bid. *providing it's true we've actually made a 11 million pound bid in the first place* Whatever way it pans it, it's certainly encouraging that we're seemingly prepared to let Best go and spend this much money to get another striker in *unless Ba or even worse Cisse is attracting serious interest*

Thank f*** for that. Didnt want his mediocre injury prone ass at NUFC Looked superb in that recent friendly vs Germany. On a free I would have gladly had him here.

That Mathieu Debuchy thread has all of them going insane it seems. Another little gem, this time on Europa League qualification:
-
Juventus We should go over the top with a 11 million offer.

Our old friend Paxton on SJP: God help him.. Also, this from another one of them:

Have you told Graeme Carr this yet? If not get a move on. To be fair, its only Carrs specific paid profession to travel the world watching players all year round. Yes hes been doing it for a very long time & has an incredibly proven track record. Lets find out what the random forum member helsug from sweden thinks first, i mean in his equally creditable opinion he might not be worth that much. Well yeah, but it's fair comment that the videos aren't that impressive. I couldn't see any one aspect of his game that stood out. Really? Which videos did you watch?

Is there anyone, more well known, that you can compare him too Unbelievable? Hmmm.. Though call. I'd say he's right footed, slightly less technical but stronger version of Van Persie. There's quite a few good online vids on him though. Search for "Best of Luuk de Jong FC Twente" and "Luuk de Jong | 2011/2012 | The Next Van Persie?" in your favourite online video sharing site for two good examples.

More importantly, when will the penny drop that they have Martin fucking O'Neill has a manager. They have just signed their new right back hours ago for crying out loud and they're starting threads like this..

I've seen a fair bit of him and I think 10 million is a fair price. Certainly wouldn't go much higher than that. The problem with setting a price is you don't necessarily just pay what you think a player is worth. For the selling club there is also the consideration of having to find a replacement, importance to the team and whether they have already sold other players to balance the book, such as Twente have done with Ola John. If they lose De Jong and Douglas they are essentially looking at a rebuilding job and can presumably forget about challenging for the title whereas if they don't they will be in the mix. How much is something like that worth? The latest set of quotes from his manager will really help us and other interested parties though, it's no use hanging on to a player who has made up their mind about wanting to leave.

Most lucrative deal ever handed out to a non-Brasilian type apparently.

It's a sad state of affairs, and in a way the richness of the Premiership and other bigger leagues with more marketing potential (TV revenues) is a direct cause of the demise of the Dutch league and other, similar smaller leagues. The youth academies of the big Dutch clubs are literally raided by the likes of Man City and Chelsea every year, who have their youth and reserve teams brimming with talent that for the most part will never get a chance in the Premiership because these clubs will just rather spend another 20 million than bring on a youth prospect. In the past these players would have developed in the Dutch league and moved when they were in their early to mid twenties, now they get picked up when they're 15 or 16. It would be better for all parties concerned if the big teams in the Premiership involved in a feeder club relationship with these clubs/academies and worked together to bring the talent on to the point where they were proven in the Dutch league (or at a similar level in other countries) before moving on to the next level. Edit: as an example, I recently read the baffling fact that a team like Swansea earns more TV money than the whole of the Dutch league combined. When you consider that TV revenues is probably more than 70% of the income of most clubs, it illustrates the magnitude of the problem for the lesser leagues and it becomes self perpetuating because due to the lower level in comparison to the bigger leagues there is even more incentive for young players to move to bigger leagues (too) early.

Lovely quotes. A few years ago this would have been unthinkable, but the demise of the Eredivisie and the rise of the Premiership and NUFC is such that an important player for Ajax now sees us as an interesting option apparently..
