  1. Where is this match being played? Looks very lower league
  2. In talks with Wolfsburg according to Dutch press. Not bothered.
  3. The closest thing to actual sabermetrics/moneyball in football was Fat Sam's over-relience on match statistics analysis. Boy, was it exciting!
  4. I apologise for claiming you have an anti British footballer agenda. It is clear that I was mistaken. It is an anti footballer from English speaking country agenda. Based on what? All I'm saying is that there has been very few Australian footballers at the top level and even those that are considered to be the most successful would struggle to make our current first XI when at their peaks. The emotive language was because aussiemag was in the thread, point still remains. I have no agenda. I would take Bresciano and Cahill as our third in our midfield three, Kewell over Jonas or Ba on our left and Viduka over Ba upfront. Neill over Simpson, and Moore over williamson too. Brett Emerton over Simpson, Neill over Williamson Why compare to Williamson? He's not first choice when everybody's fit to play.
  5. What we're doing has nothing to do with moneyball. I posted an article in the Liverpool thread last week with an analysis on how they (Liverpool) were trying to use statistics like number of crosses, number of headers won and number of balls won in opposing third etcetera as indicators for winning matches and selected their transfer targets accordingly. However, football being the dynamic team game that it is, I don't think statistics are anywhere near as useful as they are in baseball for example. Edit: link to article if anybody's interested: http://tomkinstimes.com/2012/04/moneyball-statistics-and-damien-comolli/
  6. Gaitan to Man U? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/9205873/Manchester-United-agree-a-deal-to-sign-Benficas-Nicolas-Gaitan-for-20m-plus-Fabio-and-Federico-Macheda.html
  7. Aye, before the weekend he was going to miss the AZ match and have a scan today. Now been confirmed he will not play for PSV again this season. Euros not ruled out, but I can't see Van Marwijk taking a gamble on him if he hasn't been fit to play for most of the past season.
  8. Not sure this is realistic after we pissed off his agent last summer..
  9. Out for the rest of the season, may miss the Euros. Next!
  10. Never, the biggest thing is what we can control, we'll be playing Chelsea 3 days before the Cup Final with them potentially having nothing to play for in the league by then, we've got a f***ing great chance of getting something. It's unlikely Chelsea won't have anything to play for in the league by the time we play them, unless they lose both their Premiership matches in between.
  11. Makes no sense yes he made some rickets but he was adjusting everyone does besides he made Arsenal alot stronger defensively whether people want to accept it or not..... How many goals have Arsenal conceded from set pieces this season and goals in general for that matter compared to before he was signed? Also Arsenal wont get rid of Mertesacker in any case its all complete b*llocks, the Vertonghen to Arsenal story is like Giroud to us its just the media bringing up old stories for money. Also i dont want Vertonghen...... why? because there needs to be a balance in the defence we cant have two relatively slow defenders passing it out from the back and get raped in behind like we have been this season on occasion. We need a fast, strong, athletic defender who is a beast in the air. Give me Douglas any day over Vertonghen not because he's better but because he is better suited to being a Colo partner. Plus he will cheaper. Agreed. Also, Vertonghen will not want to come here, so this transfer saga is a non starter anyway.

    Fraser Forster

May be worth keeping as a long term replacement if we decide to cash in on Krul somewhere down the line. Promotion to second goalkeeper with him being the preferred choice for the cups next season, or maybe loan him out to a Premiership club to see if he's got what it takes for the Premiership? With Ranger's plight I can't see him wanting to stay at Celtic long term in what is essentially now a one team league.
  13. The problem with the fourth official reviewing footage is that often there is still subjectivity in making the decision. As an example yesterday's dive by Young wasn't a penalty as he was looking for contact, but others would claim the sole fact there was contact was enough to award a penalty. As for goal line technology, I think reviewing footage will not always allow for non-debatable decisions; what's needed is an objective system like what has been implemented in tennis, maybe with a chip in the centre of the ball. Even then, depending on footage is problematic in itself, as the accuracy of the decision also depends on the angle(s) available, which are not consistent throughout the football league. What I would like to see however, apart from objective goal line technology, is the possibility for appeal and retrospective banning for cheating and violent behavior. Something needs to be done, that much is clear.

    sunderland

The very thought of this transfer has me all excited. Getting the shittest footballer from the worse team in the league sounds just the type of transfer that would see Sunderland moving in the "right" direction.

    Both please. Imagine the creativity!

Way to make their team even more despicable than it is..
  17. This.. Arsenal are well out of reach, Imo. Had City beaten them like the script said I would be rooting for chelsea but I think its better Arsenal win. More incentive for Spurs if they can catch Arsenal and could finish 3rd/4th, more panic and looking down if they just have 4th to cling on to. So we don't want a draw then, we want an Arsenal win..?
  18. Heh? seen moaning from some of their fans on facebook and twitter that it changed the game. Not buying it. How did it not change the game for fuck's sake? Happened when it was 1-0, and Spurs' goal would have been an equalizer. If it happened at 4-0 then fair enough, but to claim it didn't change the game because they collapsed later on in the game is idiotic if you ask me.
