I've done some reading up on him on a French Olympique Lyon site and it seems it's not so much his ability that's caused him to play as much as you'd expect, but a clash of personalities with Houllier.. It seems to have started with Diarra refusing to play for their reserves after a period of being out with injuries. It's put my mind at ease a bit; they seem to think he's talented at least, and I rate Allardyce's man management skills higher than Houlier's..

Still nobody who´s actually seen this Diarra bloke play regularly? What is everybody basing their optimism on?

Everybody´s all over the moon, but has anybody actually seen this bloke play on a regular basis? I don´t think his resume in combination with his price tag quite warrants the current enthousiasm..

26 years old and yet to be a hit anywhere..? I´d rather Sam worked his magic on what we already have here and on players that we can at least realistically expect to be of Premiership level, especially for 6 million.. For that money we should be able to do better and with our new found wealth we should certainly be aiming higher in my opinion..

He's flopped at Lyon apparently; only featured in 9 games for them.. He physically looks the perfect DM, but that's not to say he's good enough, a lesson I hope we´ve learned with Oneywu.. To be honest I don´t know enough of him, but he´s not been able to impress at Olympique Lyon and they´re willing to let him go after just one season, so I´d be wary to splash a huge amount on him..

I believe it's because England have already qualified (as a part of the UK team for the Olympics) and there were 4 places for the Olympics to be won in this tournament, hence once you qualified for the semi's a match between the two numbers 3 needed to be played to determine who gets to go to China.. Anybody talking about getting the likes of Drenthe and Babel as squad players we groom for the Premiership over the course of several years need to get a perspective on things. Newcastle is a midtable Premiership club and these youngsters are first team players at clubs of equal size to Newcastle in an admittedly lesser league.. There will be better clubs in for them however, and if we are going to compete at all for their signature it´s by offering them first team status.. Neither is going to come here to play in the reserves. They´ll go to bigger clubs if they want reserve team football, or even more likely will stay put where they get first team football..

Holland players are all saying they played badly throughout the first 90 minutes, and it required a German type 90th minute goal (i.e. very lucky) to take them through..

I haven´t seen the first 80 minutes, but the dutch commentators were addament Holland didn´t deserve to equalise based on the 90 minutes.. Unlucky for England I suppose.

Absolute filth from their keeper and the ref didn't even stop him. If Carson had come 4 yards of the line he would of easily saved the last Dutch penalty. Well done England, that Dutch coach what a t****r, why did he make taylor take a penalty, hope UEFA fine him for coming on to the pitch though I doubt they will have the bottle to enforce the rules. I think he was perfectly entitled to point out that England were just about to cheat, but hey, I´m a little biased..
