It's not just a question of level, but also of type of football, culture, manager at new club, tactics and many more. Also, some players just decline more quickly than others, or never reach their potential. There are no gurantees in any transfer, not even in transfers amongst Premier League clubs. The Eredivisie's record for bringing along top class forwards is second to none imo, but not every transfer can work out, just like not every wonderkid can work out. Football isn't that simple. As for De Jong, he was never potentially top class, but I did expect him to be good enough for our current level. Sadly, he was not.

Imaigine his involvement in Rangers somehow gets overturned and we are stuck with him (if there is any truth in the theory that he may sell up when he fully takes over Rangers). Does the English FA not have a similar rule that he might also be in breach of? Probably not as there are precedents like Watford, but still...

He's still surprisingly good at playing as a central forward though, for having a slight posture and not being used to the English game. If this is not just a flash in the pan, this boy could really be something special. I hate to draw such a comparison and I'm not saying he's going to be quite at that level, but he reminds me a bit of a younger RvP, late Feyenoord/early Arsenal days. I pray to God our coaches don't make him bulk up and take the natural footballer out of him in the process.

Can't say I agree. Plenty of scope for well run clubs to break into that top four imho. Are you including NUFC in the 'well-run' category...seriously..? No. How have you come to that conclusion?
