When he first hit the post felt just as strange. I was convinced it was going in for what felt like a good few seconds until I saw the goalkeeper lunge himself on it as it was laying there beside the post. Lady luck was a bitch today.

Agreed. I think people are just clamouring for this more and more as we seem to be lacking wingers and he looks so suspect defensively at the moment.

He didn't have time and was being closed down by 2 players, he turned towards Krul and one of the Benfica players had gone past him and would have blocked his view of Lima closing Krul down. Just before he was closed down he turned himself into trouble by checking back rather than playing an out ball that was available to him. That's before we even get to your blocked view theory. A back pass from that position with that weight against a side with pacey attackers is always going to get your team into trouble, but as I said, he should never have got in a position to make that decision. Horrendous moment from him from start to finish, not just the backpass itself.

Needs a new season as much as anyone in our squad. For now, I'd give Haidara the shirt, and as far as I am concerned it's his to lose and Santon's to regain.

Slightly frustrated he couldn't burry that second half chance, as he was clean through and Marveaux played him in brilliantly. He had the right idea chipping the goalkeeper, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Would have completely changed the match and tie too had we gone 2-1 up. Still, he scored a good goal and his overall play was much improved. Keep it up Papiss!

FT: disappointing result, but the performance wasn't that bad and we were thoroughly unlucky not to be 2-0, then 2-1 up. Individual mistakes cost us dearly. Hope we give it our all in the second leg. With a bit of luck we can still turn this tie around.
