We can point at Arsenal until the high heavens as a vindication for our lack of ambition/spending, but then again we will not be competing with them. The clubs we ARE supposed to be have all strenghtened significantly, which is far more worrying..

Good post, but I agree with Wullie that aslong as we get the right players in (and West Ham must have felt Downing was right for them or they wouldn't have got him), the transfer fee is here nor there from a fan's perspective, unless it threathens the very future of the club, which it clearly wouldn't for us given our financial situation.

Just checked Getty Images (won't allow me to copy URL), he does like..

If they are successful though, better sell on value. Of course, but it would still require a decent investment, i.e. probably paying for premium English potential more than (below) actual value, which we have rarely seen since Ashley's first year as owner, so I'm not holding my breath.

We'll be back in January and go with what we have until then.
-
Whilst Ince and Hughes are interesting prospects, there is no way Ashley will shell out what is required to get these sort of players in. There's a reason we do our business predominantly in France and with players nearing the end of their contract/in contract disputes.

This summer's Debuchy

That's not what I said at all. It's just a matter of not seeing any progress in this area, despite it apparently being a priority for Ashley. Either way, most successful youth academies write off the majority of their youngsters. To get one or two players who break through every season, loads of others will fail to do so.

Ouch... Year after year they tell us we focus on youth development and local players, year after year it never amounts to anything.
-
Same as for Haidara, he could perhaps do with a loan but we just don't have the squad depth to let these young, promising players on the fringes of the first team go.

JFK getting appointed would probably trim the member numbers at least. it would for a united front of hatred It would also mean one down and only one to go, because once Kinnear's gone it would surely be impossible to not bring in a better manager than him or Pardew, right? Right..

NUFC.com mentioned it briefly I believe.

It's called reality. Unfortunately. When the footy starts hopefully we'll be in for a surprise. Howay man Bimpy. Its the same s**** in every thread. I've never seen nowt like it. I know there's some pessimist going into the new season but f*** me, I'm surprised some people can get up in the Morning (yes i'm looking at you ) Well tbf it is rather hard to get excited with the s*** footy, JFK, no signings etc. I think this what's called Ashley wearing people down, lowering expectations and all that. You can hardly blame them/us/nearly everyone. I'm actually looking forward to the season (if you can believe that), just not the stuff i'm expecting Pardew to serve up. I'm with you, I totally agree. Ive considered giving my ticket up (I wont). But there's only so many times you can read 'f***ing Pardew and his... negative tactics, hoofball, lies, excused etc etc etc etc etc etc A ball hasnt been kicked yet and this stuff seems to be in every thread A ball is yet to be kicked and there is already a 18 page Pardew excuses thread. Excuses for what exactly?

They got 6 million for Lopez, so they may not have to sell. I mean, they would have to get a replacement in too, which will be costly. Although it sounds like they want to discuss a new deal with Gomis, which I doubt he would be willing to entertain on his end.
-
Sounds like they're ready to keep him now they've lost LL..
-
Objectively, they are both quite good achievements, considering the respective squads he had to work with. Oh noes, I said something positive about Pardew..
-
what is this Ron? English.
-
And then you go and actually clarify your position. Rattled..
