  1. Blackburn are above us on goal difference i think. Nah, we're -10, they're -11 aye, updated table http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/table/default.stm
  2. Big boost for us if he misses out especially if this Kay is a right back as they seem to think. http://www.football.co.uk/sunderland/players/michael_kay_125512.shtml - doesn't look like he'd be much competition for Carroll in the air at least. Whether Ferdinand plays or not, we need to swing as many crosses in as possible and aim for Carroll's head. Pity we haven't got anyone with good crossing ability like. colo aint bad
  3. McShane's also injured. might end up throwing a kid in at the deep end in Michael Kay........might prove nice for us
  4. Where is it being reported that antons 50 50? http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=385560
  5. Ferdinand 50/50 for them.......judging by the reaction on the scum forums they`re shitting themselves at the the thought of McShane coming in as his replacement. Some player called Michael Kay (who the fk is he?) brought in as cover too
  6. Taylor says Magpies boss is 'at best disrespectful, at worst deeply offensive' Published Date: 31 January 2009 Joe Kinnear's mispronunciation of Charles N'Zogbia's name is "at best disrespectful and at worst deeply offensive", according to Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor. In a television interview earlier this week, Kinnear referred to the Frenchman as 'insomnia', sparking a row between the Newcastle manager and his player. N'Zogbia released a statement saying he would not play for the Magpies again under Kinnear, but the former Wimbledon boss retaliated by saying the argument was a "desperate attempt to engineer a move away from Newcastle United". Taylor has now waded into the clash between the Newcastle pair. In a statement, the players' chief said: "Why should we not expect Charles N'Zogbia to be upset when his own manager cannot even remember his correct name in public but chooses to say 'insomnia'? "Respect runs two ways. "This is at best disrespectful and at worst deeply offensive, especially as insomnia is as difficult to pronounce as N'Zogbia. It's not good when people who should cannot remember your name. "Ask Graham Taylor how he feels when he gets called Gordon Taylor. We are our name. "The word (insomnia) gives the media a stick with which to beat the lad."
  7. disgrace really to say that, no respect.....but not surprised
  8. "Tyne-Wear derby big as Barca-Real' - Jose JOSE Enrique says Newcastle United's foreign legion know exactly what tomorrow's Tyne-Wear derby means to the club's fans. And the defender has compared the fixture to El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid in his native Spain. "It's a huge game for me and for the whole city of Newcastle," said Enrique. "I didn't need to be told how big it was. I know from last season how big this game is and what it means for the Geordie people. "Last year is a typical example, because after the game I had to wait in the stadium for nearly two hours when the fans went crazy in the city afterwards. "So for these people, that shows how important it is. It's exactly like the Real Madrid-Barcelona game in La Liga. "I would say it is almost an equivalent in England, because the whole city will wait to see what the result is and it affects people's lives." Enrique was a substitute in Newcastle's defeat at the Stadium of Light earlier in the season, with the game – United's first loss on Wearside since 1980 – being marred by a pitch invasion and fighting between both sets of supporters at the final whistle. He went on: "We know what happened last time and we weren't happy about it. Now we have to inflict some revenge . "Hopefully, it will be our fans who are celebrating at the end this time. "You only have to look at our position in the Premier League. We need to win this game to get out of the relegation area. "There are two reasons to win for local pride and of course to climb away from danger."
  9. probably end up like Guiseppe Rossi and not be given a chance
  10. pity Le Incredible Sulk was already taken (for Anelka)....would also apply to Insomnia nicely
  11. I`m hoping we`re playing hardball and perhaps trying to negotiate a player or loan as part of the deal (Johnson and/or Onuoha/Fernandes).....still think something might happen in that respect especially given the injuries to Barton and Guthrie recently
  12. can`t see the team being any different to that tbh. Who would be on the bench? Krul, Edgar, Geremi, Lua Lua, Xisco I reckon . Hope Ranger gets a chance but highly doubt it
  13. dropped into the reserves ? Doubt it, he's better than Taylor, and certainly better than Edgar. Misprint perhaps? probably a typo (wouldn`t be the 1st time).....he is listed on the bbc site as being in the matchday squad http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/7856393.stm
  14. Newcastle will give a debut to Kevin Nolan, but Charles N'Zogbia and keeper Shay Given will not feature. Michael Owen (ankle) and Danny Guthrie (hamstring) have been added to the Magpies' injury list. Sunderland could be without midfielder Teemu Tainio, who picked up a knee injury in Tuesday's win against Fulham. Paul McShane is out with a hamstring problem but George McCartney (calf) should be fit and Kieran Richardson has recovered from his ankle injury. Sunderland (from): Fulop, Gordon, Colgan, Bardsley, McCartney, Ferdinand, Collins, Whitehead, Malbranque, Leadbitter, Tainio, Richardson, Edwards, Yorke, Reid, Cisse, Jones, Murphy, Healy, Chopra. Newcastle (from): Harper, Forster, Krul, Enrique, Bassong, Coloccini, Taylor, Edgar, Duff, Gutierrez, Nolan, Lovenkrands, Geremi, Donaldson, Donninger, Godsmark, Xisco, Carroll, LuaLua, Ranger. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/7856393.stm
  15. SÉBASTIEN Bassong has become good friends with Sunderland striker Djibril Cissé since moving to England, but he knows there will be no chance of any pleasantries being exchanged during the Tyne-Wear derby. Bassong has spent a lot of time with his fellow Frenchman since joining Newcastle in the summer and was happy to talk about their friendship in the build-up to tomorrow’s pivotal clash, which even extends to him buying his clothes from Cissé’s Newcastle-based boutique. He said: “I have played against him five or six times in France and once in England. He is a good guy and a friend of mine. Not on Sunday, though. We talk all the time about the derby. I am taking the p***, he’s taking the p***, all the time. On the pitch that will be happening. I knew him while we were over in France, basically just through playing against each other, but since we both moved here, we have got to know each other more. He is a big friend now. “Djibril is a special guy. He has a proper style and ideas for clothes and his own ideas for living. He wears strange clothes. If he wasn’t like the way he is, he wouldn’t be Djibril Cissé. We all like Djibril Cissé the way he is.” Bassong has already had one taste of the tribal passion which marks out the North East derby as one of European football’s best and he is happy to admit the pressure is on Newcastle to avenge their 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light in October. Should the Magpies suffer humiliation on home soil, Sunderland would move six points clear of them in the table and shove their neighbours even further into the relegation quicksand. It is not a result Bassong can contemplate. He added: “There is pressure. It’s good to have that because it makes a better game. We could not afford to think about the Sunderland game until after the Manchester City match. Once that was out of the way, Sunderland is all anyone is thinking about. “Since arriving in England, that first match was the best atmosphere I have been involved in. It was very noisy and the pressure was intense. “It’s very different to other games in the Premier League. It’s huge for both cities, the fans and there is an added importance because of where both teams are in the league.”
  16. from what I`ve read on the Bolton forum, he was pretty much a favourite of Megson`s despite Nolan`s supposed performances that got him stick from Bolton fans. Judging by Megson`s reaction he might have been sold without the manager`s blessing... Bolton boss Gary Megson was less forthcoming about the deal, however. When asked about the deal at his weekly press briefing, a visibly-annoyed Megson replied: "For any more details you will have to go to the press office of the football club and they will let you know what we're doing.
  17. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to pay £18m to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Wigan's Luis Antonio Valencia. (Daily Mirror) Manchester City have held talks in London that could secure the services of Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, Newcastle keeper Shay Given and Arsenal defender Kolo Toure. (Daily Mail) Everton boss David Moyes hopes to wrap up a deal to bring £8m-rated Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan from French club Rennes. (Sun) Striker El-Hadji Diouf was sold by Sunderland to Blackburn because of a dramatic dressing-room bust-up with team-mate Anton Ferdinand. (Various) Everton have made an attempt to seal the loan signing of Tottenham's Darren Bent to ease their striker crisis. (Daily Mirror) Tottenham have already sold Giovani Dos Santos to Portsmouth for £7m after the Mexican midfielder failed to impress at White Hart Lane. (Sun) Bolton boss Gary Megson has tabled a bid for Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis after losing Kevin Nolan to Newcastle. (Sun) Alternatively, Megson has increased his bid for Sporting Lisbon's Portugal midfielder Miguel Veloso to £14m. (Guardian). Fulham are confident of completing the loan signing of Derby midfielder Giles Barnes. (Guardian) Manchester City have failed with their most audicious bid of the transfer window - luring Chelsea captain John Terry. (Times) Sunderland have made bids for Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia and Manchester City's Tal Ben-Haim. (Times) Portsmouth want to take 19-year-old Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge on loan until the end of the season. (Daily Mail) Reading have snubbed Wigan's £5m offer for Stephen Hunt which could let in Spurs, but Harry Redknapp could also be alerted by Marseilles left-back Taye Taiwo who is keen on a move to White Hart Lane. (Sun) Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll is on the verge of buying Hibs striker Dean Shiels for £100,000. (Daily Mirror)
  18. Ryan can play right back and as a winger on both flanks. I believe Lovenkrands can play both wings too as well as up front
  19. talk about fence sitting. Merson and Lawro -- Lawro Sunderland will be fine this season - there's no doubt about that. They've got a bit of strength in depth, pace and quality up front. Newcastle are plummeting like a stone. Joey Barton and Michael Owen are out injured. The natives are getting restless at St James' Park because they're losing games and haven't brought many players in during the transfer window. Verdict: 1-1 --- Newcastle vs Sunderland - merson I said earlier in the season that this wasn't a proper derby - and I was horribly wrong. When I saw the passion and the atmosphere in the Sunderland v Newcastle game I quickly changed my mind. This is a massive derby game - and it has become even bigger following Newcastle's defeat in midweek. Not only did Newcastle get a bad result at Man City, but they lost two of their most influential players - Michael Owen and Joey Barton - through injury. Owen will always score goals and Barton will always want the ball. He gets a lot of critics, but he'd be the first name on Joe Kinnear's team sheet for Sunday. This is a big game against their local rivals and the fans will be nervous. If the supporters get on the players' backs a lot of them aren't strong enough to want the ball - you wouldn't have that problem with Barton because he never goes hiding. Those two are massive misses and I'd be majorly worried if they sold Shay Given as well. He will save them at least five points between now and the end of the season - and if you knock those five points off now then Newcastle are bottom of the table! I simply can't believe that they might sell him now. Surely they can wait until the end of the season because I'm sure if they stay up they won't allow themselves to get into this position again. They don't need all of this nonsense with Charles N'Zogbia either. Kinnear has every right to give out a bit of stick if his players aren't winning games and I'm with Joe here. I don't think N'Zogbia will want to bump into the Newcastle fans after the way he's behaved. And who would want to go and buy him now if he's that weak? I think Sunderland will be alright because the two up front will always cause problems. They're big, strong and quick and they get the odd goal as well! I don't see many problems at Sunderland and I think they can go there and be very confident. If Sunderland sit back they will play into Newcastle's hands and they are a very different team when they have a bit of confidence and the crowd are behind them. But if you go and attack Newcastle, I think they'll get nervous and there's always a chance of scoring. This is a hard one to call - and that's not good news for Newcastle that I'm saying that. They need to win their home games or else they really are in trouble. PAUL'S PREDICTION Draw - I don't like predicting draws but I think this game will finish 1-1. I can't see Sunderland failing to score, but with home advantage I think Newcastle can get some sort of result. It would be a great result for Sunderland, not so for Newcastle. MERSON'S MAGIC MAN Andy Carroll - I'll go for the young lad because he's going to have to lead the line. I watched him at Blackburn and he did quite well and he's scored a couple of goals lately. He's a decent player and he will get the fans going with his work rate, but the fact they are relying on him doesn't bode well.
  20. I guess the subsequent posters decided to ignore the op`s question for 15-19 year old players then ....so will i with this one River Plate - Diego Buonanotte Udinese - Alexis Sanchez Savio - the guy West Ham just signed looks a fantastic prospect for the future but big price tag might affect him hardly played a game for Chievo, 1 to be exact, constantly injured(and pretty much has been since a Brazilian player completely took him out of the game for trying his 1 trick seal dribble......
  21. almost living up to his nickname "the serial killer" then for once
  22. done, added Soderberg and other (whoever the hell that may be!)
  23. who would you prefer to have as backup for Harper for now? Krul or Forster? Can`t say I`ve seen enough of the reserve games to judge fairly but if I had to I`d have Krul as no2 as he has more experience both at international (Dutch U-21`s etc) and domestic level. I noticed Forster was on the bench in the last game so not sure if that`s the way JFK sees things. Anyone see much of Forster at reserve level? Glad we have 2 outstanding goalkeeping prospects anyway
