Here off the Pompey board: Posted by nodge75 on 11 Jan 2008 14:56 Complain | Reply re: re: re: re: Newcastle Football Club.... ... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ''Whats unrealistic about wanting Champions League football? It's not as if we've never had it. Or haven't got the money ffs! Newcastle has had 4 seasons in the CL in the last 11 years, have finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Premiership, and played in the UEFA cup several times as well. So what would you expect if your team had done all that over the last 10 years? Mid table mediocrity? Yeah, of course you would mate. Most people don;t want Harry because he's never won f uck all. To win something, surely you have a better chance if the manager you have has done it all before? Quite simple really. How this all translates to arrogance is beyond me. You could argue that our expectations are a little high (we only expect, given our squad, to play decent football and probably a top half finish), but to me it would be pointless treading water by employing a man who has no real chance of winning anything at the club. Good luck with your season anyway guys. Your having a blinder by the looks, and i hope you keep hold of Harry - he's doing a great job with you's. ''

Parky, what are your thoughts on Didier Deschamps? On another level to Nappy by any measure. Did well at Monaco iirc. World class player with a world class mind. Has what it takes to be as good as anyone in management. If he fancies it I would walk to Paris to get him. I didn't see much of his Monaco team, what kind of football did they play? Deschamps might be a dark horse. He was touting himself about for a premier league job just after Christmas ... said he would most want to work here because of the total control managers are given. He also played here and so is familiar with the environment. I know Klinsmann didn't work out but we can keep dreaming right? Keep your head up son Haven't seen much of Monaco bar highlights. I would say Deschamps from what I've read when Chelsea were interested in him was that he wasn't as defensive as Mourinho and was for this reason in the running. He ticks the boxes for me though. Good international pedigree, has had one job already at a top club where he was relatively succesful and hung in at Juve till the internal squabbling got him. Should have good contacts in the French and Italian leagues and as you say has tasted life in the PL.

It is strange Rob that people haven't realised the inflation that has hit quality player prices. As I said earlier decent players with good potential now start at 8-10 m. Good mid-range players of international quality are 10-15m ...and as you say real quality start at 15-20m plus..You're Mascherano etc...
-
I would love this to be true.
-
I bet you're pleased with that little turn of phrase. However it will make no differance if we hire an average manager.

It was getting worse & there is no way the fixtures coming up things were going to improve. I wouldnt of wanted a season ticket next season if he was in he had of remained in charge. They have done Sam a favor mentally & financially be getting rid of him now. I think from a distance the stat/textbook/mega backroom managers like Boothroyd,Pardew, Phil Parkinson & Allardyce look good & tick load of boxes that a modern manager should be but in reality they are s****. I am going back to prefering old skool managers who have an eye for a player & are not arsed about baggage blokes like Keegan,Robson,Fergie & yes a REDKNAPP!!!! They will do for me. You are in the final stages of denial. Fancy a welk? mackems.gif

It it really is the case they don't know what is going on that gives me hope. It might mean there has been a plan all along and a good manager is on the way.

This thread has attracted more clowns than I initially anticipated. Here are some mythbusters (cause I'm in a bad mood). Ashley doesn't give a fuck about the club it is just another business to him. (That is why he smiles like a gormless cunt with 2 billion in the bank). He didn't pay off the debt cause he has been infected by some geordie mindmeld but because it is the first step to making the business more attractive. Alice in wonderland psychobabble about ''it might work because {insert cack here} is just that wishful thinking. IF it is Nappy that is a serious wrong signal it means he doesn't want a demanding manager and it might also be an indication why partly SA got the boot. I know it's depressing but just think how much prettier the sky would look if we were actually looking to snare/did snare a top class manager like Sven. This is a fiasco no doubts about it. I would forgive all of it if a top class manager is unveiled next week. I like all of us live in hope.
-
To be clear it isn't an unmitigated disaster (it isn't McClown) and there are good things about Nappy. The football might/probably will improve and we might get one or two gems and one or two donkeys...Who really knows. MA might feel better about giving Nappy the money and the relationship might be better.....But you know why jump for the stars if your keks are tied to a lamp post?

Unless they pull a 'big rabbit' out of the hat this fiasco is an abject failure of reason, common sense and sorely lacks any clear judgement. It smacks of a child who can't wait till christmas day to open his presents. And if they bring in the new manager who then spends £20 to £30 million on top quality players and drives us up the league (say 8th) putting us in a far better position to attract further players in the summer? Will you still consider it a failure then? Yes. But waiting until the end of the season to sack Allardyce (when we'd no doubt finish between 13th and 15th) would be a success?? I'm having to accept a lot of assumptions on your part here. Well obviously the first assumpion has to be accepted as part of my question. The second, what's not easy to accept there? We're 11th after by far the easiest half of the season, now comes the much more difficult half.. I don't deal in assumptions. This fiasco could only have been substansiated if indeed a high quality coach had been secured. To say we had to do it cause this might have happenned or that or whatever is pointless. We're 11th and actually we had produced 2 or our best footballing performcances (Arsenal and Chelsea) recently. I could easily assume we would start picking up points again. That isn't the debate here.

Realistically who would you have? If Citeh can get Sven, that's the minimum calibre of manager we should be looking at. Assuming we are aiming for European football once more, it'd be nice to have someone with a little experience of it. ...again it comes down to ambition, research and selling th club in the correct manner. There seems a slim chance it might not be Nappy. ...of course it might then be McClown. Waiting with baited breath. City is the one example I don't think anyone can argue with. Spurs less so because they were in a false position when they sacked Jol and always have the bright lights of London. But City were going nowhere just like we are. They finished 14th last year. A mid-table team with a couple of good players, but with 'no chance' of attracting a world renowned manager like Sven-Goran Eriksson. They got rich, new ownership and got in a manager lots of people mocked but all knew was of top class calibre. They now look set for good things. We need to try the same. Of course.

I have so many counter strikes prepared and ready to go on the launch pad Mashleees head will be spinning if he gets this wrong. I am ready to bend all know realities.

We wouldn't have been relegated or been close to it this season. There are too many hopeless sides below us. We're 11th ffs!! People don't need the to create a spectre of relegation to justify this and if they do then it shows we are collectively grasping at straws to make ourselves feel better at what we clearly see as fundamental failure of judgement. Part of the longer term problem now will be is that it is clear that that the role of the owner is too blurred with the safety net of an independant thinking chairman. Regardless of how Redknapp performs I see no due dilligence in this. We're 11th and 9 points above the relegation zone, out of the 10 teams above us we still have to play away to 7 of them, I don't think we would have got relegated but I could of seen us finishing the season than less points than we did under Roeder, Allardyce had lost the fans and was blaming the players, his time at Newcastle was over yet people were still demanding that he gets backed with money in January. Perhaps the people who thought we could attract the likes of Mourinho have just had a long overdue reality check. It's hilarious that you don't admit that given time and due dilligence we can't attract a quality manager. like who ? Surely a question for Mashley? which he's answered with redknapp. his view will be he's always done ok with limited resources and played good attractive attacking football...what can he do with extra resources but not the sort of resources that could attract the glitterati of the mangerial world So a Billionaire takes over a club and starts looking for a manager ''that has done ok''? What's wrong with this picture? Quality managers normally only need two things a promised transfer fund the like the look of and a rock and roll wage packet. All the other stuff people babble about on here is cack. and thats as i've pointed out (re wages and transfer kitty). it looks like we wont get the abramovic style spending but if you want you can slag ashley off for not spending all his money on what you want him to. Is it too much to ask to change managers in the summer and carry out due dilligence regarding such an important role? I thought these were the uber 'INTERNAL REVIEW' boys we were dealing with? No? I think we are going down the wrong route if you and other fans are going to start to slate the owner and chairman. They have their reasons, they see this season as a write off NOW, no legue cup, mid table and slim chance of FA cup progression. So if you make the change NOW, you give the club an extra 6 months head start on next season. I agree uptill this point there was no real reason to criticise Mashley...But I don't like what I'm seeing and I' saying that.

Parky, with all respect, what knowledge do you have about any due dilligence being carried out at NUFC? You know the same as us, we've just been watching sky sports news! The football club does not share details on the board's weekly review meeting! You talk about business rules. This is football man, the lines between procedure, standard process, luck, cunning, dodgy dealing, bungs are blurred... put it differently, they are in one big melting pot. There is no SOP for signing a player or hiring a new manager in that game, if only it were that simple, no one would make any mistakes! We have no clue about what is going on behind the scenes, so to make judgement that this has been a failure before we have even hired a new manager or played our next match is a little short sighted in my opinion.... I will be as relieved as you if what emerges from this farce is a good result regarding the manager and the process.

name one owner/chairman with more knowledege than ours? I suggest you take a look at the long and hard road of persuasion and scrabbling about in the undergrowth and time spent when Levy (with advice) decided on Ramos. This is not a pop quizz.

Which part of this is the definition of failure? Surely this can only be defined with hindsight? Unless this process delivers a world class manager it is a total faiure in communications of what we are as a club and what we are about regarding long term goals and how we want to work and build. Well in response to that I would say 1. If we DO deliver a "world class manager", by whatever means defines such a thing, then it certainly ISN'T a failure - this is something Allardyce was not. 2. If we appoint someone like Harry Redknapp, then this appointment can surely not be judged on the very day (or in this case before) he signs contract? I am not saying I particularly like the sound of Redknapp as our next manager, like the rest of us I would like to see someone like Mourinho.... Regardless, whoever it is can not be ruled out as a failure the day he signs the contract! Sure, everyone will have an opinion on whoever it is, but for this to be a failure it needs to stand the test of time. The way he works, his style of play, team performances, the way he can change a game, (all attributes SA seemed to be lacking) along with the rest of it should surely decide if he is a failure. Whoever it is, let's support them, at least on day one anyway. A failed process produces a failed result. Every single time and without fail. It is almost one of the given laws of business. If it is Nappy and he does do well, then that will be luck it sure won't be anything to do with this farcical process that has chosen him.

I don't understand why people don't see this as sense.
