...arrest and unrest there's a song in there somewhere.. I am listening to The Clash actually, they would do a good song about us right now; masters of the catchy chorus ...thought you might have a go at a chorus and verse mate.

We're gonna get catered for today. 4-1

See the thing is Mort is intelligent and Ashley is a kind of street wise wheeler dealer...They need to keep strictly rational if there is managerial change.

We're talking about the PL I don't intend to waste my time arguing the toss over international squads from back in the day.... Give me some good examples of players taking over at clubs in trouble in thier respective top divisions ideally the PL or maybe Serie A and we can discuss. Don't bother if the teams turn out to be more or less the powerhouse outfits in thier league ie Barca, Inter and so on...The comparisons woud be childish and ill thought through. Now are we done here?

and wales ?...holland at the time, even france at the time. do stop it with the ...it has all the fakeness of NE5's mackems.gif Well if you haven't anything to back up these ludicrous comparisons to our situation I suggest we move on. BTW I mentioned Hughes earlier in the thread. He is average at an average club is that what you had in mind? Please let me help you in any way I can make some connection with world class international outfits and squads and set ups and our lot.
-
Please mention the clubs and countries involved although I'm not sure what international managers with world class squads have to do with the toon job. But you must have a very salient point otherwise you wouldn't bring it up eh? Beck and Platini... Respective managers of Germany and France... Our set up is a little different maddy. I can see why you're hesitant mind.

Is that clueless in Europe so had to get Queerass back to hold his hand Fergie talking?

Commanding respect and pulling as one will be as nothing when he starts losing a few games and has no experience to fall back on. A few years ago this former respected player lark had some mileage, even 3/4 years ago it was just about do-able. Now the PL is like a shark tank with half a dozen world class managers and another half a dozen tough cookies following up. In short we should actually try the novel approach now we have some fianancial stability of getting the absolute best manager for the job ie not Shearer. he has experience as a player and how his managers coped, look at all those who have went straight in. do we have the finacial clout...ie is ashley gonna let loose ? you seem set that he is as we've discussed it before. Who went straight in? I hope you're not going to mention Rijkaard.. beckenbauer, mark hughes, keegan, platini, capello, roberto mancini, marco van basten, dalglish ...you forgot to mention the clubs...I know why.

They are mates aren't they. I'm sure he's got our best interests at heart...Like fuck he has.

MA has no option but to let loose more cash, you can't tread water in the PL cause you go backwards and it's the quickest way of losing the value of your investment.

...apart from the obvious return to tactical orthodoxy I'd like him to ask Mort and MA for a bundle of cash in Jan and ask loudly this time without the silly mind games in the papers. We need some real quality on the park, a couple in Jan would mean this season might not be a total loss.

Don't say that within earshot of Parky, man!

I think he's missing Forde (Chelsea).

A few years ago Big Sam was so sick and tired of seeing England lose in sport and grassroots sport being in such a mess, he sent a detailed dossier to sport England with some ideas, they wrote back offering him a job running the whole lot. I think he'd make a great administrator for a football club which was basically half his job at Bolton anyway. I remember something along those lines Coach. SA would make a good DOF as I said in the OP. A DOF?! You've changed your tune. How so Baggy? Because they're evil people who only stab managers in the back, like Comolli. I see. But in this case it would make common sense if the worst did happen that SA could continue his behind the scenes work and at least have some continuity there with his infrastructure building and scouting etc. As Coach says and I agree he has a talent for this kind of thing. I seem to remember giving those reasons for wanting a DOF in the past and you argued against it. Have you changed your mind? In the case of SA becoming the DOF yes. I wouldn't want to see what he's started behind the scenes wasted. ...so that's a half yes... You can admit you now agree with me Parky, I won't go on about it. You know deep down I can't do that. How would we have our fun? :parky:

Clearly some aren't giving it everything for whatever reason. I'd have them f****** shot. I am not in the best of moods where our players are concerned but if I apply some reasoned thinking to things I can see it's a catch 22 thing because the club for years have allowed things to get to this stage and haven't had standards since KK was here. I think even FS recognised this hence Big Sam, a man who would come in and leave no stone unturned in the pusuit of changing the entire culture of the club and in doing so laying down some solid foundations built on standards and so on. This is why I wanted him and why I'm prepared to accept a season or two of mid-table finishes. It is not working because Sam is an idiot. He is in the same mould as Clive Woodward in the way that they bring specialists in to do jobs rather than do it themselves. Woodward last real job in rugby was complete failure with the British Lions because he tried to introduce methods & systems into the Lions that worked with an England team which he worked with for 8 years, which is the same amount as years as Sam was at Bolton. See a pattern. Sam has come & done to much. His signings were rushed & after failing to get Distin & Silvestre in he has got Faye who I reckon he wanted as a DM playing CB & signed the hapless duo from Lyons reserves & the other fella from a poor PSG team. Ridiculous. There is much more to it than that. SA didn't walk into a competitive squad. It has been threadbare for years.

Do you have a link about this? I don't no, he did say it though as I remember talking about it on either nufc.nu or HTT.com, can't remember which, not in regards to NUFC, but sport and grassroots football. I think I basically said the FA should appoint him as caretaker of football in this country or words to that effect. He was a regular on John Barnes' footy show and his interviews on that show are what initially got me interested in him, his ideas, his management and what he was doing at Bolton. Because they weren't Sky, they struggled to get the top names on so would interview managers like Allardyce, Moyes before he went to Everton and other lower league managers which I enjoyed a lot more than the shite the top managers spouted. Lately Aidy Boothroyd has impressed me, and again it stemmed from a few interviews on John Barnes' show. I like managers who build things around philosophies rather than straight up coaching or by signing good players and so on. ...iirc he also took part in some cross manager sessions with other non-competing managers from around the world during the last World Cup.

I think he'd make a great administrator for a football club which was basically half his job at Bolton anyway. I remember something along those lines Coach. SA would make a good DOF as I said in the OP. He mentioned it in a John Barnes interview for C5 and Barnes asked him to elaborate, so he did and for 10 minutes he basically listed everything that's wrong with English sport at professional level and kids' level and maybe ways to change it. It impressed me enough to then take a greater interest in the man so I followed his fortunes with Bolton. This was 2002 I think. He actually said as well he was flattered by the offer from Sport England and that it's certainly something he'd enjoy later on. I think when he's finished with managing we'll see him either running a club, being a DOF or working for the FA. This is why it pains me so much to see him getting so much flack and so much wrong because he's a really clever bloke when it comes to football and indeed sport, I've read numerous UEFA packs where he's wrote articles for them on just about every aspect of the game and the man talks a lot of sense and has some truly good ideas. I wish I still had them. I supposed to be going to one of these UEFA things after the New Year as he's penciled in to do a "lecture". Will actually check up on all that as I forgot about it. A lot of the current fiasco is that the club was in such a state when he arrived with a lot of players with little motivation etc and it looks like power cliques etc.. IMO the players also bear a big responsability for the performances.
