Why does it matter that Barry Moat doesn't have billions?
Alberto2005 replied to Dave's topic in Football
the idea is with stability and financial prudence in spending then the club can generate its own finance. Everton are an example of a club that competes at the top level and only spend within their means without the resources of a chelsea man city man u Everton are going backwards though. -

Let's get a mega rich owner instead then. I never said that would be plausible. It just seems the general concensus is people would rather have stability over that option. Eh? No it isn't, that's why I made this thread. Really? So why is the majority agreeing with you then? -

I'm also wondering about the people who are sure they want "Stability" over finance. How long will that last? Because if we do eventually go up and begin to struggle because we haven't invested enough in the squad then questions will be asked. In my opinion, financial strength is the nucleaus of success. Stability will provide the club with a good base, but the players we buy and the manager we have will determine where we go. -

I disagree. I think the post you made was a solid argument, but incorrect looking at context. We needed stability 10 years ago, when billions weren't essential. A well structured setup will enable you to improve, but the improvement will be limited. It's a bit of a contradiction actually. Stability may be the way forward in the short term, baring in mind we're not currently even a Premier League side, but finance will be the only way to progress once we hopefully return there. -
Keegan vs Ashley and Co case settled - KK awarded 2m
Alberto2005 replied to Taylor Swift's topic in Football
I've not looked deep in to this saga, but I don't need to. I'm not sure what the current discussion involves but this is my view on Mike Ashley's role at the club against Kevin Keegan's. I couldn't give a shit about why Kevin Keegan was sacked, or why he walked for that matter. Kevin Keegan has been a great influence of Newcastle United, creating and moulding the best team we've had in recent years. I have no doubt that Keegan has the tendency to run away from minor problems, I also know he's an incredibly talented individual who served us well. On to my second point. I don't give a shit about the reasons why Mike Ashley bought us, I just hoped that someone would run the club in the clubs benefit. Mike Ashley has ran the club on an extremely poor level, he's the reason why we're in the position we are now, not Kevin Keegan. I believe it's as simple as that. -
I would be surprised to see a Manchester City victory tonight. I believe these are the type of games they'll generally become unstuck, the reason they have no chance of mounting a title challenge. I predict a comfortable Aston Villa victory.

Ridiculous.

Battlers vs. Bottlers But Milan's quality should get them the win. HA! Doubt it 1 - 0 Atalanta How much? The odds are poor. Today I had £1 on Palermo,Monaco,River Plate and a draw between Sevilla and Real Madrid for a return of £307. Palermo and Monaco both won, River Plate blew a 1-0 lead after 83 minutes and Real Madrid lost.

brilliant odds, has to be Skybet Yeah.

Juventus Athetico Madrid Fulham X Basel Villa X Man City 2 pounds returns £325.

Yes. People say the Championship is the worst division to bet on, it's the best. The league is so unpredictable that you get great odds. I don't like to put anymore than 4 teams on a accumulator because it then becomes almost impossible. You're best off finding the games with good odds, so I picked Barnsley at 18/5, Reading at 10/3 and then two 12/5/11/4 draws between Sheff U and Ipswich and Palace and Wednesday. I had two accumulators last week pretty similar to this one and 2 out of 4 came in on both, I didn't win them but I was only two teams away and the payout was good on both from only a few pounds at most. I think it's the most profitable way of attempting accumulators insread of predicting 8 games on teams you "think" will come through. Go with the odds not the instinct.

Managed to win £381 on an accumulator last night thanks to Chris Morgan's last minute equaliser.

Celta Vigo to beat Cordoba Osasuna to draw with Sevilla Deportivo to draw with Espanyol West Ham to beat Liverpool £5 returns £1100.
-
Found this interesting, if you bet a pound on West Ham to beat Liverpool,Osasuna (home) to draw with Sevilla and Barca to lose at home to Ath Madrid you get odds of 200/1. I know two of them are unlikely, especially the Barcelona game but that's fantastic odds and better than hoping on a 8 team accumulator.

Villa weren't at the stage they are now when they signed him. I also believe it would be a good season for Villa if they managed to reach the Europa League spots again. In my opinion, Milner should be a definite starter in the current Aston Villa side. they finished 6th the season before they got him I saw no real improvement from them overall last season although they did have an excellent spell when they really got the rub of the green early-mid season Fair enough. Just when you thought it was hard enough breaking into the top four with the big four infront of you, Manchester City come along and make it a big 5, soul destroying.

Milner has developed since he joined for Villa, he's definitely an improved player. When Milner was playing for us he was still one of our better players but who was the competition? He's a good player, nothing better and nothing less.

That thinks football has become incredibly worthless? My enthusiasm for the game has dropped significantly over a period of around 10 years. Why? Well, I think the pure predictability of the game has become apparent. Where is the Newcastle that broke into the top four without anyone seeing it coming? Where is the underdog that craves to win the historic F.A Cup? You'll hear numerous fans stating how they'd hate to be a "Man City" Bullshit. Move with the times. This will sound completely negative but hypothetically lets say we got promoted and are once again in the Premier League, then what? What ambition could we possibly have in this league? We'd probably be able to create a squad on a par with an average mid table side, but that's not the problem. The problem is not having a good squad (Doesn't help) But there's no hope, there's no hope of creating a team challenging the higher end of the table in years to come simply because there's not enough finance to penetrate that quality of squad. The ambition has to try and replicate a model such as the one Villa/Everton have assembled, one which needs time and patience, even once this is complete you've got nothing better than a top 6 side at best. You look at the progress you've made and feel you've accomplished all the goals you've set in reaching the top 6, baring in mind the teams above have world class players coming from all areas, then what happens? The teams above you buy your best players because they "want to challenge for trophies". Gareth Barry was probably the biggest example of this, he left a Villa side that had performed consistently two years running to join Manchester City because he realised that they were going to overtake Aston Villa within ONE season, Villa develop a squad worthy of reaching the UEFA Cup and challenging the top four and in one takeover, a couple of transfer windows Manchester City have a squad which is not only better than Aston Villa's but one that could probably match their team using second choice players. I enjoy watching the Champions League because I believe that still has the same stature but I feel sickened at the rest of the game as it's becoming incredibly boring, predictable and worthless. The more that money increases the more players will leave clubs frequently to gain other rewards. The whole traditions of clubs will continue to rapidly fade the way football is heading. Football at the moment is like having Messi in a league one squad and not playing him, you've got a brilliant talent and you're completely wasting it. It's the same with football, it's a wonderful sport which is been ruined by the wrong motives. Football will always be here, it's too popular not to but I pray for the sport itself that something changes, and quick.

Blackpool vs Newcastle United Pre-Match thread - 16/09/09 - 19:45 KO
Alberto2005 replied to ElDiablo's topic in Football
I believe Blackpool have an impressive away record which may work against them in their home games. I haven't seen them play but I'm guessing they aren't a side that is able to force the game which may or not work in our favour depending on our approach. I said earlier that I'd be happy with a draw which could be seen as a decent result considering we're away from home and have a few players missing, however I've changed my mind. How many times do you hear people say "They're bound to lose sooner or later"? I don't see any reason why we shouldn't win the game. We have a better team and we're confident, not to mention the fact we've already played teams regarded as the better teams in the league and haven't had trouble in any of them. -
Think Bordeaux might surprise Juventus tonight and I don't think AC Milan will win either.
