Disagree with the first bit. I’d just look at it as a sensible signing for a club that needed backup. Also, neither of them have a coach who specialises in getting the best out of players. After what he’s done with Gordon and countless others, Howe deserves the benefit of the doubt.

It’s probably worth saying again but EH improves players. That’s his thing. Also think a lot of people are far too kind to Wilson due to his goal record (which is obviously really good). He’s sorely lacking in open play and often kills our build up play IMO.

A complete guess but perhaps the pitch to him was to come and develop his game here for a season whilst being back up, knowing there’s a decent chance he’ll be No.1 if Pope’s shoulder goes again. If all is ok with Pope then he takes over as soon as he’s more effective?
