  1. I get that you're crying like a girl over what the name is going to be on tv, despite everyone in the area and at the games referring to it as St James' Park. I only found out the other day that's West Ham's ground isn't even called Upton Park It's what people know it as though and SJP will be the same. the way you're championing the abuse of newcastle united culture without a whiff of protest on the basis of hypothetical financial reward for the club is very, very manly. Where as you want us to sell Tiote and Cabaye while cutting Colo's wages so we don't have to worry about sponsorship money. no, no i don't. you've spectacularly missed the point. You said so in the other thread as ways the club could cut their outgoings so they don't need sponsorship. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,90937.msg3330710.html#msg3330710 i know i did, doesn't mean i'm advocating it or it's what i want us to do. you've jumped the gun a bit there.
  2. How does he go about reducing costs even more than he has? He's reduced the wage bill massively and we don't spend big on transfers, what else can he realistically cut? alan smith's wages for a start. Colo's too. also some tidy profits in Tiote, Cabaye etc would likely pay the sponsorship money for decades So you're advocating selling our best players now?! Alan Smith will be gone at the end of the season but I want his wages used to pay new signings, not so we can be light a squad player. the fuck are you talking about? i'm suggesting ways that Ashley could do without sponsorship money and therefore be able to have even more sports direct advertising for free while the club still pays for itself.

  4. QFT shirt sponsors is a different matter imo, be fucking mental to turn down an existing revenue stream They've done so inside the stadium. and on top of it Well there wasn't any advertising there before so it's not quite the same, but certainly no company has never had such a monopoly on the fixed advertising hoarding that I can remember. Not one paying fuck all for it, anyway. indeed, they COULD sell that advertising space though couldnt they, just like they could sell the boards inside the ground. i imagine the signs either side of newcastle united would be worth quite a bit actually, they've obviously decided we don't need that money though.

  7. But no-one who matters (fans, locals etc) will use the "new" name. It makes no odds. ...to you
  8. yeah, but he's just changed the official name of St. James' Park

  10. this, positive chanting is the way to go, whether that be about the team or the stadium.
  11. build brand awareness through advertising, start to do business once the profile is raised. it's not just in the far east that the premier league is popular anyway, although i'm sure everybody already knows this.
  12. certainly not for me. i was a fan of his while he was at inter, wearing AC tops in interviews and giving the fans the V's from the pitch after they criticised him for shooting from 45 yards on the half volley.
  13. Let's not forget that Ashley thought he was paying much less than that when bought the club, and let's not under-estimate the effect the premier league advertising can have if you're trying to grow a brand.
  14. exactly, reduce NUFC costs massively and you dont need to rely on shirt sponsorship. the standard sports direct advertising boards within the ground are replacing other adverts but i dont imagine the fees were enormous and they can be covered by reducing costs too. the extra stuff such as the huge SD adverts in the gallowgate and east stand aren't replacing adverts that we were bringing money in for anyway, and crucially neither is the name of the stadium. he gets more international advertising and the club just has to reduce spending by the amount of shirt sponsorship+normal advertising boards. just weeks ago people were still doubting his motives for owning the club.
  15. it's gonna be difficult like. my overwhelming feeling during ashley's time here has been sadness and anger that we're all being taken for a ride by someone who doesn't give a shit about the football club, this has just increased the feeling x100. it's such a ridiculous situation that someone like him has the power to do things like this.
  16. they've put two things in order of priority, one they care about, one they don't. it's not a new approach for ashley
  17. irrespective of when the team was formed, isnt it feasible that the patch of grass was referred to as St James' Park for some time before that? I'm not sure but it seems likely.
  18. In what world do you live where a stadium name change correlates to the success of a football club? You already know the answer to that, don't you? If the club increases its income and it spends the money wisely, you increase the chances of success on the field. I worry about how naive you'd have to be to think this will increase our income by a single penny. earth shudderingly stupid
  19. So we don't need £8 million. Depends if you want to spend more or not. Like I said more profit means more expendable cash for transfers. It doesn't in the Ashley philosophy like Doesn't it? On that philosophy, we'd have spent a canny bit in the Summer (I don't think we were operating with losses of £39m or whatever it was we made). I don't remember us making that much, unless we're not including what I presume are decent signing on fees to Ba and Marveaux, they also failed to get another striker they wanted that's now apparently set up for January. Like I said the money for Carroll will be used over a few years, not just one summer. are you using a magic 8 ball to tell us this? the wum spin is in over drive It's my opinion, what's yours? That Ashley is 'trousering' the money? Despite the accounts showing he hasn't ever taken money out? no, but thanks for suggesting one. my opinion is that you're justifying the change in name of St. James' Park based on it bringing in a hypothetical fee in order that we spend it on players, when we had an 'unexpected' cash windfall of four times the proposed fee 11 months ago and on balance, £0 of it was invested in new players. saying 'it'll be invested over the years' means nowt.

The most important part of his job is getting the fans onside while Ashley does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. That's why he's our manager. Please tell me your joking. I'm not having this argument again. I'm completely comfortable with you and I having different opinions on every single issue.
  24. Sydney- my lass isn't concerned with the fortunes of nufc but she's gutted about this because their changing the name of the most iconic building in the city where she spends most of her time. They're changing the name of the place where my granda went to watch the team play and where he took me to watch them. None of this makes you any less of a fan but there's plenty of reasons why this us different for you than it is for us. The fact that it's being done under the pretense of a lie just compounds the hurt. I follow the green bay packers and would be sad to see them sell out and rename Lambeau Field (not that it'll happen given they're a non-profit organisation) however I wouldn't for one second suggest it means the same to me having never even been there as it does to someone who lives and works close by and has an emotional attachment to the place.
