  1. Delima agreeing with Gejon shocker
  2. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/07/burnley-owen-coyle-bolton Would be comedy value if Burnley appoint Paolo Sousa
  3. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/08/arsenal-arsene-wenger-transfers Arsene Wenger obliged to spend ? Interesting.
  4. I think this is the most convincing explanation I have seen so far. Maybe Coyle is very confident of himself that team under him won't regress - and he is taking every opportunity to step up. However then, why not Celtic ? Europe is an excellent place to showcase himself ?
  5. His contact list is a bit useless. The following players you don't need any special contact list Mark Schwarzer Stephen Kelly John Pantsil Seol Ki-Hyeon Andrew Johnson Zoltán Gera David Stockdale Andranik Teymourian Damien Duff Pascal Zuberbühler Dickson Etuhu Jonathan Greening (on loan from West Bromwich Albion) Bobby Zamora The following players you need more extensive scouting - but only Hangeland is a success, maybe Nevland Brede Hangeland (vice-captain) Erik Nevland Bjørn Helge Riise Fredrik Stoor Toni Kallio Kagisho Dikgacoi David Elm
  6. If Burnley stay up this season, perhaps they would be able to afford an Anelka ? Facilities yes - but hardly a deciding factor ?
  7. I have thought about the "bigger picture", I still don't see how Bolton is significantly greener than Burnley ? Bolton's wage bill might be huge, but : 1. Bolton have been in the premiership for years - they have "guaranteed" annual revenue / cash flow so they can afford so. Burnley are only promoted this year, they are skint naturally. Come next year Burnley's budget would increase. 2. Is it sustainable and serviceable ? Perhaps, that's why Megson was dismissed, because struggling for relegation isn't good enough for the club, financially, given the transfer fees they have spent and the associated wages ? I am not trying to argue who/what is right/wrong as I think this is very subjective - however I really cannot see how Bolton is a meaninguflly better platform for managerial achievement. Putting all these into perspective, at least we could really appreciate what did Sam Allardyce achieve with Bolton.
  8. Very picky .! For what it is worth I think he will be just perfect for us next season in the Premiership.
  9. I think the gradual tactical evolution has meant that box to box energitic attacking central midfielders are dying out. Even the likes of Gerard and Lampard quite often just hover outside penalty boxes. Scott Parker & Mark noble don't score goals. Stephen Ireland is a slow moving box to box midfielder. Maybe Lee Bowyer ? Fellani ? Bullard ? Murphy ? Cana / Cattermole ? Pallacios ? Kevin Nolan was "meant" to be the one.
  10. You have to consider that Bolton have been in the Premiership for many years - naturally they have bigger chips to play. Burnley have just been promoted to the Premiership. Next season Burnley (assuming they are not relegated) will be on similar financial footing with Bolton, with similar share of TV money, similar share of prize money (assume similar league positions), similar match day income (similar attendance and assuming spend per head is similar). Even if Bolton get more revenue than Burnley, do they get more profit (if at all), considering the overhead, player wages, depretiation and transfer loss? Both Bolton and Burnley as far as I am aware do not have other source of significant income. Some clubs get shitloads from foreign fans, some clubs get regular big attendance, some clubs have rich local fans, some clubs make profit from player sales, some clubs a combination of all above. Bolton & Burnley as far as I am aware don't really have any of above. So the only factor differentiating them is attendance. And the difference between them is not significant.
  11. Bolton average attendance 21438 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/stats?id=358&season=2009&league=eng.1&leagueId=23&cc=4716 Burnley average attendance 20344 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/stats?id=379&cc=4716 The difference is not significant !? Bolton's training facility might be far superior - does it really mean anything ? How would the budget in Bolton be any meaningfully higher than Burnley ? It is not that Bolton have any foreign following that Burnley don't. Once Burnley & Bolton are both in the Premiership - shouldn't their financial income be on the same par given their similar average home attendance ? If Coyle succeeds in keeping Bolton up - he won't enjoy anymore adulation compared to him keeping Burnley up If Coyle fails in Bolton - he will be gambling away his Bolton popularity In Burnley, if they stay up, Coyle will be hailed as the newest miracle If they are relegated, Coyle will still be a massive hero Coyle will have all the priviledges in the world to experiment, learn and fail in Burnley. He won't be afforded the same priviledge in Bolton Unless Coyle is eyeing the potentially lucrative personal wages Bolton could offer, having read through all the posts in this thread, I am still not convinced at all moving to Bolton is a sound move ?
  12. If you were Owen Coyle, would you leave Burnley to manage Bolton? This is a very subjective issue and there is no right or wrong answer for this. But I really can't see myself leaving Burnley for Bolton in the current circumstances ? I understand that Bolton is bigger than Burnley, but how much bigger ? Coyle has built collated his own players and built his own squad in Burnley Burnley seem capable of staying up Has Coyle hit the glass ceiling in Burnley ?
  13. You are right Dover. I apologise. I am the tit.
  14. I have just seen the highlights. I think the first goal was a fluke, very poor defending and goalkeeping. However Beckford does seem to know how and where to position himself, he knows how to spot a through ball. That brings another question - can he fit snugly onto our team ? Who is going to feed him ? Spiderman ? Judging by the the match only, I think he is good enough as a replacement for Harewood. But I still seriously doubt whether he could score goals in the Premiership.
  15. Clearly you are being the tit, not me. I did not say that Beckford does not have any outstanding quality, I have said I never watch him. Going by how others rate him on this board (lazy, rely on positioning, poor first touch) , I do not think he would succeed in the premiership, given the high rate failures of top scoring championship strikers in the premiership. And if he is not deemed fit for the premiership, then I don't want to pay over the odds for what is essentially half a season productive works. If registering yourself on the championship scoring chart is what guarantees success in the premiership, we should snap up all top championship strikers eih, what a tit. I have not suggested that we should buy strikers who can't score goals. Don't try to put words into my mouth.
  16. Village Idiot - can you tell us something about Michel, the alleged Birmingham City transfer target from Sporting Gijon ? The price seems quite reasonable (3M euro). Wonder why is there no rivalling transfer bids for him from other Premiership clubs ?
  17. That's why he isn't a regular in Manchester United ??
  18. Owen's positioning and movement are outstanding ? For some reasons he is not scoring now but he used to be an outstanding finisher with great composure.
  19. BOth Davies and Zamora are selfless hardworker, team player.
  20. Heskey has strength. And he is a selfless hardworker.
  21. Well I suppose they did indeed survive in the Premiership. But they are not the level we are aiming at. And I think they survive in the Premierhsip quite due to there are no viable alternatives for their clubs. Shola (Free) has height and strength - attributes which English managers like despite Shola not being skillful in utilising them. Jerome (3M) is a typical example of top Championship striker failing in the Premiership. He is young (improvement and resale value) however, and as a long term investment he is worth it. Harewood (500k) was good for one season only (West Ham). Macfadden (5M) is a costly failure. And he isn't even a top Championship striker. Scotland (2M) is so far a failure in the Premiership. Campbell (3.5M) is so far a failure. However he is still young. Ebanks-blake (1.5M) was signed for full season promotion push. So he was very much worth the money. Although he has so far failed to tear Premierhsip apart, he works hard for the team to stretch the opposition. As I said we need someone to replace Harewood. Beckford seems to be a suitable candidate. However I am wary that we may pay over the odds for him for essentially half a season works. I have never watched Beckford play so I don't know how he play. But judging from people's general descriptions here - lazy, finisher, positioning - I don't think he will be a useful member in the Premiership.
