  1. Now that you mention it, that's a stunningly good point you make there. Wrapping Owen up in cotton wool (metaphorically speaking) serves nobody's best interests other than the marketing department of NUFC. He's a player, not a fucking ornament. Thanks for bringing common sense to bear.
  2. ...and then Fowler's available too. i dont think Rushy's got a club atm? re-sign him now. Are you Dalglish in disguise?
  3. ...and then Fowler's available too.
  4. Aye,agree with you If he is 100% fit then there is no reason why he shouldnt play in this game Whats the big problem? See GM post Yeah, GM's post is wrong. If Michael Owen is fit enough to play for Newcastle, then England can and should pick him for a friendly. Shepherd (if the article has any truth in it) is being a tit about this because he's bitter over the compensation issue. Is it? I don't see that I said anything there that could be said to be wrong. I was merely saying that I'd prefer to see Owen with a good few more games behind him, back to full match fitness and in top form before he gets selected for England again. I'd tend to agree that him playing for England over the summer could/would be good for him, seeing how long he's been out of the game, purely in terms of improving match fitness etc. What does concern me, and I wait with some anticipation on this, is to see what effect the injury has had on his playing style - if any. If his game has been or is detrimentally affected by the injury and the subsequent recovery process (e.g. if he's slower), then England selection may depend on having suitable players around him to compensate for that. As for Freddie being bitter, I actually take some comfort from that - it shows he cares and wants to protect one of the club's biggest assets, which is what you'd expect any right-minded Chairman to do. It may however be that Shepherd is in this case being just a tad overprotective.
  5. If only this was Arsene hinting that he wants Roeder's job. If only we had a chairman as shrewd as David Dein. If only...
  6. Can't really blame the Chairman for feeling that way, assuming that this story has a grain of truth about it. I certainly don't think Owen should get an automatic return to England until such time as he's proven he's back to the highest possible level of fitness and form, either.
  7. What a bastard. We could have been contenders.
  8. aye completely past it your a fucking joke man How much trolling does it take? Vicky's trying so HARD tonight, and STILL can't get himself nicked for it. Poor deluded bugger.
  9. I for one would certainly welcome Houllier, as Manager rather than as DoF...especially if he was able to bring a few of Lyon's players with him e.g. Benzema, Ben Arfa, Govou, Abidal, Toulalan, Diarra (a couple of them would be fine). I'd be all for putting Roeder back at the Academy - even if in my view is much vaunted "success" there seems to me to be somewhat overhyped - but it would just be nice to have someone fronting up for the club who was a bit more tactically aware, knew how to play tactically to win in Europe, and knew how to develop young players properly - and I'd hope Houllier would also see the value of keeping N'Zogbia rather than letting him go to waste on the reserves/subs bench. Houllier as manager would be awful decision He is starting to ruin Lyon already as he did this with Liverpool before he was sacked Still reckon he could do a decent enough job for us though blueyes.gif EDIT: Although having said that I'd prefer Hiddinck - if we're doing Fantasy manager type scenarios.

    Eriksson For Toon

Is it unfair to judge someone just on their international record though? Keegan was a great manager for us, but was dog poo for England. At Lazio he spent a lot of money, and only just won them the title. His earlier success was back in the day when Terry Venables was taking Barcelona to a European Cup Final, when George Graham, Graeme Souness and Howard Wilkinson were winning titles. Anyway, his successes mean nowt to me, if he was an excellent motivator, had good tactical skills and his teams were prepared well, that would mean more to me than a notable CV and things we should be looking at well before we look at the CV. Give me a manager with the personal skills over one with none but a half decent CV, i.e. Souness. Someone like, say, Hitzfeld?

    Title Fight

If Chelsea were to go on and win the title now, it would be class. I live in perpetual (vain) hope to see Fergie having a "Keegan on Sky" moment.
