But they haven't come back in the side after suspensions were over.
-
Yeah, I was thinking that. It kind of invalidates my concerns . If we're prepared to pay such a fee for him, that alone should be an indication of the level of investment they are prepared to allocate to the club if the right player is available. Maybe I'm thinking a little bit like Ashley after all...? fuck
-
Good thing nobody is turning their nose up at him then. All that's being discussed is the fee someone mentioned had been quoted, and how that could be problematic due to FFP and until we know what kind of money the new owners are prepared to invest in new players. If money isn't an issue for the new owners, if FFP isn't going to come back and bite us in the arse in a couple of years leaving us unable to replace a 35+ years old Trippier then please, throw in another £5m for good measure to get him for all I care. Difference in both of those examples are that they were 23 years old when they were bought. Man Utd would easily recoup more than half of the fee they paid for VDB if they sold him today since the potential is still there. Joelinton...well...let's wait a few more matches and see how things go Hypothetically, if we fast forward to 1st of February and we're looking at the ins and outs, and we have Trippier + un-inspiring loans and/or free signings with Howe saying the opportunity to sign Trippier was too good to pass up, but it came at the expense of strengthening other positions with permanent signings, would anyone be happy we got him?
-
I know a few on here have wished that the league is suspended due to covid so that we have the opportunity to get new players in with more games left of the season, but I could definitely see them at the very least try this if the league is suspended.

It has nothing to do with being conditioned by Ashley. It's frankly a bit insulting considering how much I hate the guy. You'll probably find most people that are a bit sceptical would be fine with spending more than £25m for a better/comparable player that is younger. You won't find one fullback at Trippiers age being sold for that kind of fee. I just went through the list of left and right backs on transfermarkt just to see if there were any comparable transfers and there wasn't. The closest I came was Cuadrado that went for €20m from Chelsea to Juventus in 2017 when he was 29. The top teams either sign more expensive but younger talent, or cheap proven quality experience. There's a reason for that.

If you don't bother thinking about the financial implications of a buying player then just stay out of the discussion? Not taking anything other than current ability into consideration Trippier is an excellent signing, everyone agrees. Nobody knows what kind of budget we'll have for player recuitment. Owners have done nothing to date that indicates we'll be another Chelsea or Man City. They are also on record saying they want to build slowly, so until it's confirmed to be bullshit and it's very much carte blanche we have to consider where money is spent imo. If that is the case, I would not want us to spend that much on a player with no resale value that would perform at his best for 2 seasons. We may also still go down and then what do we do if we have an old, expensive squad we're not able to shift? I'd rather spend more, but on a younger player.
-
It's all a bit hypothetical at this point until we know what kind of strategy and budget for player recruitment we will have going forward. If we are going to be another Chelsea or Man City where the price for a player isn't relevant then sure I don't see a problem with it. Until we know, I don't see spending 25m on a 31 year old fullback as good business regardless of the short term gain. Look at Everton and QPR for what the potential consequences could be if we're not the next Chelsea or Man City. If that makes me "thinking like Mike Ashley" then....fuck you!

That's below the belt man.

Can't really compare them since Willock has at least 10 years left to play at the top level while Trippier has maybe 2 good seasons left in him unless he's some physical anomaly.
-
I agree with the points you made, but in fairness you should also point out that Howe is now playing Dub, Manquillo & Lewis. He also didn't put Clark back in the side after his suspension and Almiron has come in for Fraser. While the consensus on here is that Willock needs to be utilized different or replaced with Hayden, and that Fernandes should play ahead of Lascelles, it's easy to make arguments for why he persists with them too as opposed to if he had put Darlow, Ritchie, Krafth, Fraser or Clark back in the starting line up.
-
I'd never spend that much on a 31 year old full back and it would also set a ridiculous precedent to other clubs for what they can ask for their players. I'm getting strong Bosingwa vibes on this one.
-
He seems to be exactly what we are screaming for in centre midfield. Should go all out and offer a decent fee to Marseille to get him in as soon as the transfer window opens and maybe catch other potential suitors off guard.
-
Yeah Wolves had good connections to get main bulk of those players through Mendes, but it's not like he could have forced the players to go there if they didn't want to join.
-
Wolves got Ruben Neves, Jota, Boly, Saiss, Doherty and Cavaleiro while in the championship. There's definitely talent out there that would happily take one season in the championship to be part of this project if they fail to retain premier league status.
-
Any player spurs would be happy to sell or loan us at present time I'd be very worried about, considering how opposed they were/are to our takeover
-
CM is top priority for me as well. If we could get someone like Renato Sanches, Arthur, Boubacar Kamara or Ismaël Bennacer that alone would improve the whole team. Ideally we'd bring in two of them Second top priority is a left footed CB to suit how Howe likes to set up the defence, like Botman or Gvardiol.
-
I have no idea what to hope, expect or what the best approach would be for this match so this is just high level brain storming of what possibly could work to grind out a point. I'm thinking it's better to set up defensive with as much work rate, pace and energy as we have available to have a slim chance of nicking a goal on the counter while making life difficult for Liverpool. Was really struggling to decide on Almiron or Shelvey but feel like Almiron possibly is better equipped to deal with the pace of Liverpool and to double up with and support Lewis on the flank against TAA & Salah. He's also more of a threat on the counter. Willock has been dog shit under Howe but again, has more energy and pace to help Manquillo on the other flank against Robertson and Mane than any of the other options available. -------------------Dubravka------------------- ----------Schar---Lascelles---Fernandes------ Manquillo----------Hayden--------------Lewis -------------Willock-----Almiron-------------- ------------------Joelinton-------------------- -------------------Wilson---------------------- No matter what I hope as a minimum that yesterday was a wake up call for everybody and that we get a positive reaction from coaching team & players, despite fully expecting a loss.

Will come back to Chelsea next season, play a bit part role for 4-5 years and sold for £30-40m to a mid table PL club when they finally realize they won't be regular starters.
-
Petty lashing out in frustration. Serves him right that it immediately went back to hurt him.
-
The football haven't been good, but second half has been really entertaining. Two teams full of fight right now.
-
Yeah, guess it depends on how it's defined. In the Norwich example could it be either Shelvey winning the ball, or Fernandes pass to Willock that created the chance, while the ball into the box from Willock is the key pass...?
-
Everton turning it on.
-
Assuming it's ok to post this since it's from official Norwich account. Go to the chance starting at 02:14. Idk how those stats are generated so it may have a logical explenation to it but in my head at least it should as a minimum be ONE chance created. Not that it would make it any more impressive
