I'm not sure. They may well be looking at him as a Wissa replacement, as Wissa played both sides and upfront too.
-
That's a decent replacement for Mbeumo.
-
I could see Howe really feeding into this mindset this season and the team being an absolute bastard to play against. Bring it on.
-
I did wonder about that too! Leipzig have apparently made Sesko, Openda and Simons available for a full rebuild after missing out on Europe.
-
I read that you guys are looking at the Parma kid Leoni as a replacement for Thiaw? I guess from our point of view it's good to hear he is keen on the Premier League ahead of the Juventus, as that would have been another potential nightmare battle for us
-
If we pivot to Jackson can't see us signing Wissa, so that will be bad news for him. When we got our first bid for Wissa rejected there was talk that Openda was an alternative option. Wonder if we could be looking at a Jackson and Openda now.
-
The meltdowns that used to happen every time we were linked with this guy Now he's a Ballon d'Or nominee for goodness sake. That is just too funny man Distinctly recall someone insisting he was a league 2 player and fuming at us being linked
-
Really looking forward to seeing how this plays out for him at Man Utd. Will be rooting against both massively this season! If he goes there and ends up going the same way that Hojlund has man ... my God it would be just unreal!

Isak's last season at Sociedad before he joined Newcastle. When we were told he wasn't a goal scorer as he only got 6 goals the season before. He was underperforming his xg then too. Wasn't a deal breaker for Eddie then and I don't think it will be now. If he likes Jackson it will be down to a number of factors.
-
You can't just disregard how well he compares in all of those areas outside of his finishing! And as I've said already Jackson really only makes sense if the other striker that is brought in is a more clinical finisher, so we have a good balance of options.
-
So you look at those two charts and how closely Jackson mirrors Isak's chart everywhere except finishing, and it put you off? Interesting. Meanwhile Ekitike underperformed his xg to a greater degree than Jackson, while playing in the Bundesliga, and this was never raised as an issue when we were looking at him.

We can't be worrying about Chelsea really. They have just banked £100 million from the club world cup, and everyday are selling youngsters for £20 million and £30 million. They are also selling assets back and forth to themselves. They have an immeasurable amount of funds and so anything we send them for Jackson is insignificant really. Newcastle just need to worry about what they are doing and get in players the manager likes to improve the team. A by product of all these signings at Chelsea will always be that some decent players also become available too. Turning down a chance to sign some of them if it makes sense for Newcastle, just because we don't want to fund Chelsea who are banking 100s of millions anyway, probably wouldn't be smart at this stage anyway. Also, we may have wanted Joao Pedro but unfortunately he didn't want Newcastle! And funnily enough Mr. Pedro has not been as productive in the Premier League as Nicolas Jackson has! We will also be bringing in two strikers to replace Isak.

Only the Newcastle bid was accepted according to Ornstein.
-
We are well past this stage. Ornstein has already confirmed that our bid was accepted. Sesko and his camp are giving Man United the chance to match it, but they are struggling. If they fail to match the fee and terms we did, only God knows what happens next. If we're still hanging about does that suggest he has said he will join us? No idea.

Chelsea have gone down the route of the Pep disciple, and therefore the slower build up and the infinite side to side passing, and this definitely does not get the most out of Jackson's strengths, and so in some sense they were actually limiting him to some extent. Jackson looked better and scored more goals the previous season under Pochettino, whose style is more high tempo. For Maresca's style of play the likes of Pedro in particular, certainly suits them better. Delap is one that came up through Man City and already has a relationship with both Maresca and Palmer I believe, and so that kind of makes some sense for them too as a different option. And so the replacements Chelsea got I would say are more suited to them. The £80 million price for Jackson is definitely a stumbling block, as that is just outrageous. At the very most £60 million for him in this market.

Really good read That is so intriguing. Suits the Newcastle system and style of play to a tee. I think because we're after two strikers, we could get away with bringing Jackson in and having the space to further refine his game and finishing in particular, provided we also brought in another striker that is a clinical finisher. Unfortunately this other striker can't be Wissa who would have made the most sense, because that would mean both would be off to AFCON, which would be something we can't afford. And so is there another striker they could bring in with him that they are confident will score goals in the Prem? All the other linked Prem options outside of Wissa will be unrealistic fee wise I think i.e. Watkins and Strand Larsen. Would they perhaps feel confident in someone like Openda getting goals in the Prem maybe? Think that would be the main issue with getting Jackson. The other striker has to be someone that can finish chances well much more consistently.

The problem is Leipzig also wanted a ton of the fee upfront. It's been 24 hrs now with no further movement and now we're getting these kind of reports coming in. Leipzig were so tough to deal with they sent Arsenal packing twice. I'm just not 100% certain this is going to end in Man United's favour. But lets see. They've got a former Red Bull man in house, so maybe he can convince them and get some favours due to his connections.
-
Well at that point it will be confirmed that him choosing you was all media spin and so I'm sure people will move past it.
-
As expected Man United were trying to put us off or have the player reject us outright so they could then start begging and haggling. Surely neither of these two things have happened if we're still hanging about?! Have we called their bluff then after the big propaganda push?! Looking like Leipzig aren't budging on their demands and Sesko hasn't said to us outright that we are not an option. The hilarity if Sesko ends up joining Newcastle still or even staying at Leipzig if we do eventually move on.
-
Does the manager like him? Is he happy to join? If yes on both, sign the player!!!
-
Figured out how to agree with the player first then
-
It's not because it's so late. He's looked good in pre season and the new manager wants to keep him.
-
It's just so silly man I just hope we can get the numbers in. I'm not even worried about who the players are, as long as the manager sees something in them, as I trust him to get the best out of them. We just REALLY need to get the numbers in so we aren't left short!
-
Why did we not go straight in with the same bid once he rejected Como?! Now the new manager has seen him in pre season and wants to keep him, and they are asking for much more money. My goodness
