  1. As you lads know, i live over in France and i was out tonight for dinner with a lad who is mate from uni and a bit of a businessman over here. He was in town tonight with his Dad and took us for dinner at some restaurant, was swanky as f***. Anyway, there was a group next to us with Gomis and some english speaking people. Didnt hear what was going on exactly but they were talking about England. The manager was a friend of one our group and he was sitting with having us a drink afterwards and he said they were from Spurs. I didnt recognise any of them but thats not saying much, i only recognised Gomis because of links on here.

    :laugh2:

    What part of France ?

You do know there are quite a few brothas out there with dreads don't you? You sure you about this? Did you hear Gomis name mentioned at any point?

  2.

    Lets all calm down now.

I have to admit I did want Cardiff to win this today.

I think once Portsmouth knew they were playing a championship team they have pretty much felt the cup was theirs since then. Hence the lack of excitement.

    Pretty infuriating.

  3. Everton, Portsmouth, Man City, Tottenham and Villa.

All in Europe next season (Villa through the intertoto).

Tough summer of recruitment for us  :undecided:

Are Man City confirmed? Read somewhere that Fulham might have got the fair play position.

    Man City confirmed yesterday, yes.

  4. Damien Comolli faces questions over future

    Gary Jacob

Damien Comolli is fighting to save his position as Tottenham Hotspur sporting director. The Frenchman has this summer's transfer window to recoup some of the substantial amount of money that the club have spent, under his direction, on players in recent seasons or risk being sacked in the autumn after three years in his post.

Comolli's tenure has come under scrutiny in part because of the estimated fall in the value of some of his expensive acquisitions and some disagreements with Juande Ramos, the Tottenham head coach. Darren Bent, Younès Kaboul, Ricardo Rocha and Kevin-Prince Boateng cost a combined fee of about £32million in the past 18 months, but they are now arguably worth half that sum. This has led to questions about whether Comolli is delivering value for money.

Tottenham would not want to disrupt their transfer strategy this summer by dismissing Comolli now. Daniel Levy, the chairman, has shown that he is willing to give his staff an opportunity to turn things around. He backed Glenn Hoddle when the board voted on his managerial future five years ago and supported Martin Jol, the manager last summer, when one director at the club wanted to replace the Dutchman with Harry Redknapp, the Portsmouth manager.

Some fans have questioned Comolli's ability to spot a good player, but that does not appear to be a concern inside the club. However, there is some disquiet at White Hart Lane at the money - and hence profit - that could be raised by the sale of the players who have arrived under Comolli.

There are also questions over the fees paid for some players. Gilberto, a 31-year-old Brazil left back, cost £1.8million in January, when he had six months remaining on his contract at Hertha Berlin. He arrived overweight and unfit. Boateng was bought for nearly £5million last summer, also from Hertha, despite Seville, the other suitor, offering half as much. Before that, eyebrows were raised at the arrivals of Danny Murphy and Mido for a combined fee of £6.5million.

Comolli will have a chance to realign his transfer balance sheet, with Dimitar Berbatov expected to realise a profit of about £17million on the £10.9million paid to Bayer Leverkusen in 2006, if the Bulgaria forward leaves.

Signings are not only the responsibility of Comolli. Every member of Tottenham's management group, comprising Levy, Comolli, Ramos and John Alexander, the club secretary, are supposed to agree about a particular player. However, Jol has since complained that he did not want some of the acquisitions, while Ramos rejected eight players offered to him in January.

The club backed Comolli during his disagreements with Jol, but it is not certain that they will do so with Ramos, who holds a stronger bargaining position. There is no suggestion that the club will discard their continental structure, brought in by Levy. Ramos enjoyed success working under the system at Seville, where Ramón Rodríguez Monchi, the sporting director with whom he had an uncomfortable relationship, was credited with discovering the best players.

Quite stunning that! This guy has blown a hell of a lot of money on a bunch of players who don't even make the team anymore. Shocking stuff.

  6. Major rumours round merseyside that Liverpool might be signing Lescott  i still think someone started it as a pisstake to wind everton up

    Utter bollocks.

£10m was the rumour I heard  No club could even buy his right boot for that, nevermind our rivals. I've only heard it the once though, hardly a major rumour. The Owen and Gera ones are a lot more widespread.

Joleon Lescott ... what a monumental signing that was. It's always the successes that you don't quite anticipate that are the sweetest.

The likes of Lescott and even Jagielka have shone so brightly for Everton this season, but you suggest Newcastle by a player from one of the relegated teams or a championship team and you will immediately hear some say buying from these teams is aiming too low.

  7. Considering Everton were in for him when he first signed for us I wouldn't be so sure they wouldn't be able to affor his wages as they were clearly willing to do so last time around.

Look at Everton's team for goodness sake! How many of those guys are on massive wages would you say?

I reckon they could clearly make an exception for a top player if they wanted to. I would imagine they could afford to pay Owen for sure.

I tend to agree I think they do probably have the money to make him an acceptable offer.

The problem might be though is wage structure and what sort of effect that bringing in a player at a considerably higher rate than everyone else has on team morale. Everton success has largely been built around team spirit, I'm not sure Moyes will want to upset the boat.

But as I said before I think this on could very well come off.

The thing is though, it is not some random foreigner who they will be giving this money to, but England's Michael Owen, and therefore I'm not sure it would have as negative an impact.

I have to say when you look at teams like Everton, Villa and Blackburn and what they have been able to achieve without really having any players on crazy wages it makes you appreciate our new owners viewpoint. The likes of Viduka, Smith, Emre, Duff are absolutely killing us right now in terms of wages and the aren't really worth what they are getting paid at all.

  9. Not sure where this will leave N'Zogbia unless Keegan thinks he can accommodate both.

Might fit into Martins' floating position, with Martins moving forward into Viduka's.

    Yikes!

That wouldn't work in a million.

  10. PSG's Diana cools Newcastle talk

    tribalfootball.com - May 16, 2008

PSG striker Amara Diane has cooled talk of a move to Newcastle United.

L'Equipe says Diane has denied quotes attributed to him this week that he was excited about the prospect of joining Toon in the summer.

  11. As I am a Gala fan I watch him every week. Still convinced that he has not the full pace you expect from a winger but he has so much other qualities that this is not that important.. In Turkey the opponents sometimes try to lock him on the wings with 3 players but then the guy is a floater so he easily goes into midfield to the right to the left so he always manages to get in position.. he has an excellent character and consistency but more important he is a true team-player. Tbh I don't think he will leave Gala for the next 3 or 4 years.. unless there is a load of money involved cos Gala is in need of moneyyy..

Btw he is definetly no C.Ronaldo maybe a slower Messi :cheesy:

If he isn't a speedy out and out winger he'll probably suit our diamond midfield better. In place of Geremi maybe.

  12. I think this relates to a caller to Talksh*te mid morning.  There's a number of threads going on about it.

One thread started......Newcash fan says on radio that he has it on good authority that Cashley will sign Berbatov for £20m(claims Berbie is a lifelong newcash supporter). You could actually hear the 2 hosts giggling in the background.

The next post was ........ Is there any way we could plant this fake rumour on newcastle boards?   Just so it takes momentum and they actually start believing it......

I know some here can get on, the link is

    It's a windup, ignore it.

    Nailed on true then.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  13. Seems likely judging by his age and pedigree. Appears to fit the profile of the type of players we prefer to go after nowadays.

Maybe we can convince them by sending Emre back the other way along with some dosh.

Think that might be the best way to go in order to get him signed.

Didn't they show an interest in Emre during the January window?

Not sure if they showedinterest in January but I believe Gala was Emre's first club in Turkey and he would be welcomed back with open arms I imagine.

On the other hand though, having Emre here would probably make it easier to convince the player to come so a bit of a dilemma.
