  1. Quote from the St-Etienne owner this afternoon.

"He's not for sale. Even if Marseille arrived with three lorries full of notes, he won't be going. He's ready to stay here a little bit longer before he goes to England."

    http://www.equipe.fr/Football/breves2008/20080520_124639_gomis-et-feindouno-restent_Dev.html

It doesn't really mean anything, how many times have you heard someone is not for sale until the money is dangled in front of their face.

Sounds like he just doesn't want to sell to Marseille but would prefer to sell Gomis abroad instead.

  2. So we know Mario is a physically imposing striker but what else?

What are his good points. Does he hold the ball up well and bring others into play? Is his touch good? His vision? Is his technique good? Dribbling?

Just because he is a big strong striker with pace does not automatically make him a grea player. Heskey had these attributes but he reall wasn't anything special.

Can you tell us a bit more about Gomez?

I finally found the magazine which shown the comparison: Kicker.

A strange rating system, which 1 is the best, while 6 is the worst.

                                          Gomez              Toni

    Teachnique                       2.5                  2.5

    Future                                1                     2

    Experience                        2.5                   2

    Scoring Instinct                 1.5                   1

    Teamwork                         2.5                 1.5

    Importance                       1.5                 1.5

    Professionalism                 1.5                   2

    Pace                                  1                      2.5

    Heading                             2                      2

    Fitness                              2.5                    3

    Overall                              18.5                 20

I can see there is over hyping though.

    Interesting ...

Having watched him play though, what could you tell us about his style of play?

  3. just bought him on fm yesterday... so it is a fact that his price in 2013 will be 10,5m

haven't had a chance to play him yet though...

All these FM games suck! I didn't realise you weren't even able to watch your team play the actual games. All you do is press a button to sim through every game? That's crap.

Surely you ought to be able to watch the matches and see how the players perform? FM stinks.

    Rant over.

going off what i've read (only seen him play once and he never stood out) he is the full package. technique, pace, strength. acn go alone and bring others in and feed off. good in the air and on the deck.

Damn ... sounds like a fitter, faster and stronger Viduka.

Would be a dream come true for us.

  6. Looks like a top, top player from those compilations of him. I hope to God we sign him, he really looks like someone who could transform this club and have us back up there challenging for a CL spot. I know this is brash, but its obvious from the clips that he is a potential world class player - itd be daft to think otherwise. We just need to pray that the Depor chairman accepts our bid before any of the CL elite come in, then Albert will be ours.

  7. Pulis, the Stoke manager has been scouting in France and turned down a player, unnamed who was sold to him as "the next Drogba". Said he would have cost the club a lot of money, but is no better than what they have.

Either it's Gomis, or another new Drogba

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/stoke_city/7404647.stm

Didnt they already have the new Drogba (Shola) on loan?  :   )

Nah, that guy they have on loan is the poor man's Ricketts.

  8. Gomez will go to Madrid to replace Van Horseface. That is my prediction. Half Spanish, and the Madrid coach is German, nailed on. Makes perfek sense.

Rather than risk a Gomez at this point, I believe Madrid are more likely to go after a Berbatov or Fabiano.

  9. What kind of price would range is he in, anyone know? £4m-10m?

I've never seen him play, just clips on youtube :)

Very dependant on PSG's status. If they go down £4-4.5 if they stay up.£7-7.5 .

PSG stayed up. Lens were relegated.

  10. I think this is possible too. Big clubs more often than not tend to go for the 100% established players for the most part. For example if this guy were to have a phenomenal Euro 2008 I could then see them clamouring for him. However, right now I think we would be in with a chance.

Berbatov was at Leverkusen for years and he was a known commodity but still there was that uncertainty, but they would all have him now wouldn't they?

  11. Newcastle United in 2013

    Manager - Paul Ince

Top striker - Gomis 30 goals (having indeed morphed into the new Drogba)

Top midfielder - Samir Nasri 20 assists

Top defender - Not Steven Taylor

    Gaol Keeper - Tim Krul

quite impressive what Ince has done mind.

I was only fairly impressed up until I actually saw MK Dons play and I was stunned because they actually play some very good football and they got away with it and indeed dominated with it in the rough and tumble world of the lower leagues.

That guy has serious potential. He's not just a shouter and motivator by any means, which is probably what I expected him to be due to his personality when he played.

  12. Hate to say it, but if anyone will then it will be Spurs. Seems to be some idea on here that Spurs will have a s*** season again because they did last year but they have a very good manager now with money behind him it seems.

Even with the Modric signing they still lack character, I still feel they are a fancy pants team and nothing more. They severely lack physical strength and explosiveness. Till they add a bit of this I think they will continue to struggle. I'm yet to be convinced.

  13. Didn't Beardsley say in that talk in HHT went to that the club blamed Oliver for letting everyone know the situation with Modric?

If that's the case then you can't blame them for denying the story.

    Good point.

    Wright-Phillips rules out Bridge exit

The 26-year-old has struggled to establish himself under Avram Grant making just three Premier League starts since January.

Wright-Phillips is likely to miss out on Wednesday's UEFA Champions League final with Manchester United, with Florent Malouda, Joe Cole and Salomon Kalou all ahead of him in Grant's pecking order.

The likes of Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa are thought to be monitoring Wright-Phillips' situation, but the 26-year-old says he has no plans to move on.

"I will definitely be at Chelsea next season," said Wright-Phillips.

Speculation"Speculation has been like this since I was at Manchester City.

"It was going on for seven years before I left.

"Then I came to Chelsea and speculation has been going on for my whole time here and I have still not left.

"I have signed a contract (until summer 2010) and I'm here to see it out."

    Loser.

To good not to be playing every week and making an impact somewhere.

    What a bum.

What a ridiculous thing to say.  He obviously thinks that he is good enough to force his way into the squad, so why should he not stay?

That is like saying that anyone in our reserves should leave and go to a lesser club, for they are more likely to start in the first eleven.

I cannot stand the whole 'would rather be playing for a lesser club than trying, and failing, to get into a better one' argument.  He is an ambitious lad and leaving Chelsea for a team other than Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal would be a massive risk.

Footballers cannot win.  If they stay at a club and try and force their way into its starting eleven, they are classed as 'bums' who are clearly doing it for the money.  Speculation-tastic.

Good luck to the lad.  I personally do not think that he will break into the squad, but fair play for continuing to try in spite of the fact that he could end up getting dropped from the England squad if he does not start playing regular football soon.

He is a bum. He should be demanding to get the hell out of there!

It's been two years of being mucked about at Chelsea while his best years go to waste. He is good enough to be in any other team other than maybe Man U. How he still thinks he can break into that team is beyond me.

Chelsea are a joke and will continue to sign more players every window. They clearly don't believe in him enough. Avram Grant has been playing Salomon Kalou ahead of him for goodness sake.

He's no 20 year old either he shouldn't have to be waiting around, he's a freakin' England international who should be in his prime right now.

In my opinion he's an idiot and he should never have gone there. After that phenomenal season at City, both Arsenal and Liverpool were interested. I would have demanded to go to one of them rather than Chelsea. If he had he would be a fixture in their first teams.

SWP you are a big fat hairy bum.

  16. i know season has only just finished but its really frustrating when you think your closing in a signing then turns out to be rubbish or moves to another club.

It is pretty annoying, but you just have to take it for what it is. It's still interesting discussing the players and learning about different players and how they might fit into our team and stuff.

This link did seem like a very strong one though, so I am pretty surprised.

We are probably in discussions with them to sell Emre, while someone else is in for Turan.

  17. I'm not worried about Tottenham or any other club as there are so many potentially young and promising players out there, as opposed to chasing the few established and experienced, not to mention expensive guys out there.

I mean honestly, I only recently heard about the likes of Gomis, Gomez and Turan and all our rivals are not going to be able to sign every player under the sun so we'll get some good young talent in for sure, they are certainly out there, and we stand a chance with the strong setup we have at the moment.

My only concern would be how soon. The earlier the better I say, and it is something we haven't really done for a while now, which is getting players in early and allowing them to bed in well before the season starts.

Landing a target or two before the Euro tourney would be a great start and a very positive move.

    honestly spurs can and will

    Shut it.

  19. As you lads know, i live over in France and i was out tonight for dinner with a lad who is mate from uni and a bit of a businessman over here. He was in town tonight with his Dad and took us for dinner at some restaurant, was swanky as f***. Anyway, there was a group next to us with Gomis and some english speaking people. Didnt hear what was going on exactly but they were talking about England. The manager was a friend of one our group and he was sitting with having us a drink afterwards and he said they were from Spurs. I didnt recognise any of them but thats not saying much, i only recognised Gomis because of links on here.

    :laugh2:

    What part of France ?

You do know there are quite a few brothas out there with dreads don't you? You sure you about this? Did you hear Gomis name mentioned at any point?
