  1. Leroy Lita is the new Shola.

Well, maybe he's a bit more mobile.

Be careful what you say pal. You don't want to end up like this fella ...

    Arsenal fans think he's s***

    Not worst then Adebayor tbh.

    Disagree.

    Julio has done bugger all.

    Adebayor = the next Ameobi

Both (Baptista and Adebayor) were s*** last season, both didnt really do enough to deserve a place in the starting eleven in the Arsenal squad, i am pretty much sure that Wenger will play with Henry-Van Persie up front next season and keep Adebayor on the bench as a back up, maybe even get a better striker.

We are going to destroy them because of our no. 23:

Ameobi can be as good as Adebayor

NEWCASTLE striker Shola Ameobi has been told to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor.

The 26-year-old Magpies frontman has seen his efforts to plug the gap left by Alan Shearer on his retirement hampered by injury, and found himself largely a forgotten man under former boss Sam Allardyce.

But new boss Kevin Keegan was swift to restore him to the starting line-up following his latest return to fitness, and is confident he can make a major impact.

Ameobi was not involved in Saturday's 3-0 fourth-round defeat at Arsenal, but could play a part when the sides meet again in the Premier league tonight.

Adebayor scored twice at the weekend, and Keegan has ordered his own African-born front man to study the Togo international's game.

He said: "If you look at Adebayor, what I would say to Shola Ameobi is what I saw of Adebayor a year and a half ago when he first came on to the scene is what I saw of Ameobi when he first came on to the scene.

"That guy has kicked on and Shola has had injuries and other little problems, I guess, but he is 26 now and I don't think it is too late.

"Everywhere you go when you see a performance like that, you can say to a player, 'He is a similar size to you. Has he got more ability than you?'.

"Well, it would look so at the moment, but truthfully, I think Shola has got a lot of stuff pac

kaged there that hasn't quite come out properly yet.

"People might say Alan was dominating when he was here - of course he was; so was (Thierry) Henry, but Adebayor has gone straight in and filled his boots.

"That's not easy, that's almost as difficult as filling Alan Shearer's here."

Newcastle head south with Keegan's last-ditch recruitment drive having so far failed to pay dividends - and the manager admitting he may have to negotiate the remainder of the season with what he already has.

He said: "We are set in the summer to add to the squad in a way I think will be really meaningful, as opposed to now where you are taking chances.

"If you get one who is an absolute top-notcher, who has played at the highest level, then you might do it.

"But at this moment in time, there have not been that many put forward to us who fit that criterion that you can realistically get."

Keegan seems to agree to some extent  :shifty:

Whatever helps you sleep at night pal.

  2. £2m with a boat lad of addons going way past £6m btw.

Still not bad. If he doesn't do that great then we don't pay much more than £2 million. If he does really well then we won't be too upset to pay up to £6 million, which really isn't that bad.

Not bad? Its great. I'd pay the full £6m upfront if i was KK in his situation, no way is he not worth it, so much in front of him as well. This seasons Ashley Young begging for someone to take a chance on him. Bring him in.

    Too true.

  3. I had the feeling that this season was going to be difficult for him. Last season, he was probably the best player on the pitch in every game, and his attitude reflected that. It's different this season, and he's playing with a team who are inferior to the opposition all the time. Down to earth with a bump.

But as with Bellamy, let's buy a player when their career has stalled a bit, rather than waiting till he's hitting the headlines.

Exactly, especally as he is still so young.

I am very surprised Villa aren't in for him actually, as they are apparently looking for someone to play on the right.

havent seen alot of hm but i thought he was an attacking central midfielder and not a winger?

Me neither (haven't seen much of him), but from my understanding he can play out wide too.

  5. Where, as in what position, exactly does this fella play?

Also, is he someone that is good enough to come in and be involved with the first team.

A 20 year old wouldn't be coming into the academy or reserves surely?

He appears to be an attacking midfielder, of the mould that sits behind the strikers, but ahead of the midfield, pulling the strings and creating chances. I've seen a few articles call him a playmaker.

    Sexy stuff.

That is kinda sexy. Would be even sexier if he could play in central midfielder. Hopefully he is of good stature and of decent toughness. We need ability in the middle of the park.

  6. Some of you guys are so bloody lazy and are the biggest freakin' drama queens ever.

Have you even read any of the articles?!!!

How people can still be refering to Wise as "the director of football who will bring in players over Keegans head" is all very worrying, and quite frankly disturbing.

Keegan has said he was aware first of all and secondly Wise is not the director of football for goodness sake.

Read the rest of the thread before spouting off this crap.

  7. Okay, so I  just have to ask ...

Did everyone just decide to completely disregard the bit about Wise being disillusioned with management and wanting to get involved in another aspect of football instead?

Wise obviously has some good contacts as he knows Jimenez, and has therefore got this position thanks to Jimenez who is pprobably looking to show him the ropes of this side of football. Wise's position will clearly be greatly influenced by both Jimenez and Vitere who are the ones with the real experience in this area.

Another important point is the fact that Jimenez and Vitere seemed to be already advising Ashley before Keegan came in, and by all accounts Jimenez was involved in bringing Keegan to the club. Therefore, Jimenez, who appears to be the real DoF if anyone is, was involved in selecting Keegan as manager, and so he obviously feels like he can work with him.

If these guys had become involved after a manager was already in place then we would have potentially had a problem.

I think this is all looking good . Surprised at the amount of fear in regards to the new setup.

  8. This is some really sexy stuff. So, so freakin' sexy.

I can't fault this setup at all, and there is no way in hell Mort and Ashley will let these guys undermine Keegan. the repurcussions would be massively negative.

The way I see it they have brought in these guys to keep Keegan informed of the hotest players out there and he then just has to pick the ones he fancies.

    ABSOLUTELY LOVING THIS!!!

    It's about time.

  9. This strikes me as strange as Keegan has always been able to pick a good player.

Nobody has a 100% record but Sellars, Cole, Albert, Lee, Ginola, Gillespie, Beresford, Bracewell and countless others all came in from nowhere and did fantastic jobs for the club. This for me was always one of Keegan's strong points, and to have players foisted upon him by men upstairs scares me a bit.

What are we leaving Kev to do - Sort the tactics out on match day? "Go out there and score shitloads!"

I'm pretty certain Kev's suggestions will still be taken into account and discussed thoroughly before a final decision is made.

However, in addition to this we have people out there whose sole job it is to find the best players they can, and they can then discuss these players with Keegan too.

Win, win situation in my opinion.

  10. Wow ... having read the article in the Times I am very impressed with the setup.

Wise's role isn't even that major as he will be working for Vetere and Jimenez basically.

The major catches we have made here are clearly the appointments of both Jimenez and Vitere who both appear to have major contacts in the game, which will be vital for us.

Also the fact that jimenez will now be in charge of closing the deal on signing players we will be in a far stronger position when it comes to getting players in. Mort clearly isn't the most experienced at this and he could do with some help.

This is brilliant guys it really is. Here's hoping it all pans out.

It looks like we will definitely be after some big time players this summer

  11. Hmmmmm ... the picture is becoming clearer.

So Dennis Wise is essentially going to be a DDoF type but under guidance from this Jimenez character as well as Vitere it seems.

It looks like Keegan will have to discuss any players he wants with all of these guys before a decision is made. I'm not sure it is a case of Keegan not being allowed to bring in the players he wants, hopefully not anyway. Ramos was tyalking about the setyp at Tottenham as far as recruiting players go and we might be adopting a similar strategy, as Jimenez is familiar with Ramos and Kelmsley with Tottenham.

Maybe this is why we have been linked with the likes of Guaray, Pandev, Modric etc. i think this summer could be very interesting.

  12. Apparently Ashley has got two people advising him, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere. Jimenez and Wise are mates and Vetere was a scout at Charlton and Real Madrid.

Jimenez is new powerbroker at Newcastle

    tribalfooball.com - January 18, 2008

Tony Jimenez is being hailed as Newcastle United's saviour after he influenced Kevin Keegan's shock return to Tyneside this week.

The Sun says Jimenez, a pal of Tottenham boss Juande Ramos and Mike Ashley's friend Paul Kemsley, has extensive contacts in the game through property deals. He is not an agent but is well respected for his football knowledge.

Between him, Ashley and chairman Chris Mort, they targeted Keegan.

They heard Keegan still had the passion for the cause and when they met on Wednesday they were not disappointed. The deal was signed and the Geordie republic began a party.

Jimenez will be playing a significant part in player recruitment and will be working with Mort.

Whoever Keegan targets it is the board's aim to give him what he wants. If they did not, there would be no point in Keegan being there

  13. Maybe they dont have the tactical skills as european players do, but the speed and offensive is beyond what any european country can come up with i belive.

Black people are simply better athletes than white people. Faster, more agile and generally just more explosive on the whole.

No real point deluding ourselves and trying to be PC about it, it's a stonewall fact.

Conversely, white folks are, by and large, better equiped at the cerebral side of sports (i.e reading what is going on around them and making decisions)

You need only look at american football to see this.

In the positions where speed and athleticism are crucial, like running-back, reciever or cornerback, you will do well to find a white person in the entire league. You get some wide-recievers, admittedly, but most of these are "slot recievers" who generally are expected to work the middle of the field and spot open space in zone coverages (which further illustrates my point) rather than be big playmakers.

On the other hand pretty much all the elite QB's, for my money the most mentally challenging position is sport, are white guys.

There are exceptions to the rule of course, but this is the way it generally goes.

    What utter bollocks.

Well, you've certainly disproven the arguement there.

What argument? Do you really consider your sort of infantile reasoning an argument?

It's racism dressed up in a spurious series of statements designed never to be able to be gainsaid and therefore not (in your world) disproven; any contrary statements serve only to confirm you in your prejudices.

Your racist patter has no intellectual credibility whatsoever.

    :smitten:

  15. It's a bit of a myth that black people make better athletes while white people have higher IQ so therefore I think we can safely say that in Shak, we have a raving racist in our ranks. Irish b******.

If the 'blacks' all grew up playing in european academies and the 'whites' all grew up eating African food the world would be a more equal place ...
