old news from skysports:
Jonathan Woodgate has explained that Gareth Southgate's presence at Middlesbrough was the key factor in his decision to move to Teesside.
The 26-year-old defender tied up a season-long loan move from Real Madrid last week, but he had several other options open to him.
Former club Newcastle were keen to bring him back to St James' Park but Woodgate has insisted that his mind was made up as soon as he listened to Southgate's vision for Boro.
"I spoke to Newcastle as well. I could have gone to other clubs in Spain but I just wanted to come back to the North East of England," he told the Sunday People.
"It's not a surprise to me that I am at Middlesbrough and not Newcastle. Middlesbrough are a big club, the manager is fantastic and the club is ambitious. We have just bought Robert Huth as well.
What's your point?
I think Shepherd and Roeder would have been more of a turn off than anything else to be honest.
-
"Am I the only one who sees what's really going on with this Woodgate deal?
It's been set-up perfectly so that Newcastle "swooop" and Kevin Keegan grabs all the headlines. Again.
All this bullshit leaked to any news agency that will listen; con them into thinking he's going to Tottenham - then, at the last minute, Whoooosh! Here come Newcastle! -> "KEEGAN SWOOPS FOR WOODY" (etc, etc...) Roll Cue SSN then hotfooting it up to St James' Park to interview the unemployed outside the stadium.
Until that ridiculous club stop trying to grab the headlines all the time - they will never learn the error of their ways."
That is jut so embarrassing.

The Defoe link absolutely baffles me.
It's not that baffling. He knows nowt so makes s*** up.
Hope that clears the matter up for you.
Sure does

NO- NO- NO- NO-Forget it Woody is always injuried

The Defoe link absolutely baffles me.
With Owen, Martins, Smith, Viduka and Shola all here what is Defoe really bringing to the team.
I can understand the Woodgate and Bentley links though.
Also would be surprised if Keegan isn't looking at Bridge or Riise (wether people think he's crap or not), as we only have one recognised left back and he's such a young fellow.
-
With the players they've got Nigeria look s**** so far.
They're just so much like the England team.
Yakubu really is a freakin' disgrace for Nigeria right now. Atrocious and shouldn't be out there.
Why the hell that stupid coach took off Martins and left that lazy fat arse on sure beats me.
Should be Uche and Martins upfront with Odemwingie and Utaka on the wings.
Not a single goal in the tournament so far.
Lord have mercy ...
-
Why do we only get linked with defensive players?
Sigh.
I think Keegan quite likes the attacking players we currently have. I imagine it is also much harder to get quality attacking players in.

Crumpy does just get his info off another forum though, you do realise that?
It's everyone's favourite ITK, Whatever from Skunkers again.
Yea that maybe so but im loyal to this forum
Ive never been on skunker's or any other Nufc forum tbh. I expect skunkers have a lot of ITK members and if CG gets his info from there then good on him, im just happy he posts it on here. So far i think he has been right everytime.
Aye he has, Liverpool's Stephen Ireland and Man City's Peter Crouch.
I don't profess to be right everytime. I do get info from Skunkers I also get info from a source I couldn't divulge. IE Allardyce wanted out.
As for Steven Ireland/Crouch. This might not happen. Voronin is out for 6/8 weeks. I do believe though a deal was reached in principle where Liverpool would get Ireland + cash.
Rafa was allegedly after theo for the right wing too wasn't he? So he may indeed be looking for a right winger.
Why doesn't he just put Babel there? Is Pennant injured? He's still got Benayoun there too?
Conclusion: Rafa is nuts.

No more excuses!!!
Bow before Nobby you heathens!!!
You have some cheek.

We've been linked with Onuoha in the Times today.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!
-
Can't help but remember that table of injuries he's had since being at Boro. Good defender but how much of it will we see? Hopefully it's a decent price.
The good thing is we will have a very good backup in Faye and a decent one in Cacapa too.
I think if Woodgate does come in we ought to pair him with Taylor, as it will push him to be better.

Well Crumpy's got Nobby's back.
It's looking real good for Nobby right now.
Dave and Wullie get on your knees and beg for Nobby's mercy.

now saying spuds have upped their offer
woodgate and tiago and hutton in by Sunday
23 million
To Tottenham or to Newcastle?
Wouldn't mind those three to be honest.
The added bonus of pissing off Spurs fans too.

Owusu who wasn't good enough for Arsenal and was shipped off to Spartak Moscow, now at Celta Vigo on loan. He looked decent in this tournament with the ball at his feet and when crossing.
Kept getting into trouble off the field while at Arsenal and so was sent on his way. Wasn't really due to a lack of ability.

I've really pissed on a hornet's nest now havent I? Jesus!
If you go, it'll probably be for 28 days, so don't worry, it wont be permanent.
bollocks to that.
he could have had us closed down like the smb.
ban him permenantly imo.
Don't you get banned for requesting other people's banning too?
-
Adding 'allegedly' doesn't excuse anything I'm afraid.
Is everyone unaware of the SMB being completely closed because of similar baseless allegations?
Works on "Have I got News For You!"
Who have their scripts read by lawyers, and also have the benefit of facial expressions/voice tone, that make it very clear that they don't mean what they are saying.
If anything they make it very clear they really DO mean what they're saying.
Well they have lawyers and the strength to back themselves up. We don't.
Yeah but I thought Dave liked dressing up as Ally McBeal! Allegedly

Carew is freakin' fast!
He's just a bit mechanical in his movements but he is big, strong and quick.

Here's a prediction ...
Martin Jol / Kingdawson will rear their ugly heads at some point to whine about how Woodgate is only joining us because we are paying him £100,000 a week.
Incidentally Tiago is apparently turning them down because they are trying to get him on the cheap salary wise.
For a club that apparently has so much money, how freakin' stingy are they?
Jokers.
The reason they've got so much money is because they don't pay stupid wages, they have got the pull of the capital in their favour though.
Fat lot of good that does then!
Oh look we've got so much money but we don't use it to improve the team ... um okay ... that's great.
The thing is good players don't just cost a lot as far as their fees go, but they also demand decent sized wages.

George Weah.
End of
Pretty much!

Fwiw, I don't think Riise is all that bad, but then I don't think he's all that good either.
I can't see the justification in spending £6m on what would amount to a less-than-significant upgrade. Just play Enrique and spend the money elsewhere.
I don't understand this line of thought though? Even if we don't go for Riise we still need a left back. Enrique is the only one we have isn't he? Or do people not mind Zoggy back there anymore, should Enrique get crocked or suffer a dip in form?
I think from here on out Zoggy should concentrate on mastering as many attacking positions as possible and no more defensive ones.

Jewell: NUFC 'not coming back' for Giles Barnes

So we've been linked to him today
Good enough to play in centre midfield for us? As a forward thinking midfielder?
He could also compete with Milner out on the right too.
Would be a good alternative to Bentley who Blackburn are going to be very difficult about.
