So are West Ham looking at a midfield of Alvarez, Mctominay and JWP? That’s awful if so.

Love how everyone keeps saying this with no context.

Can't wait till the season starts, then we'll see.

I rate Moyes. But I think the league is evolving past that. Not to say they won’t have a good season. I’m just not totally convinced.

There's always going to be different approaches/styles to the game and it will always depend on how well those approaches are drilled and how effective the players at the club can play that style. Brentford battered Man City last season playing a more direct physical style.

I really don't like Moyes getting these players for the way he likes to play. They are a very good fit.

  3. Ward Prowse not just scoring from set pieces but whipping them in for the likes of Alvarez, Maguire, McTominay, Soucek and Zouma.

If Paqueta leaves and they get a physical striker to replace Scammacca leaving, as well as a left winger to provide what Bowen does on the right, West Ham are getting into Europe.

Moyes ball might not be the most inspiring, but when he has his players it is effective and tough to play against.

I agree with this. But we haven’t been as ‘smart’ in the transfer market in terms of unearthing gems as I thought we would be.

Barnes and Tino were logical and predictable signings.  And then we’ve signed the Milan captain for a premium.  I expected us to do more Botman & Bruno type deals and the type of signings at Brighton.

I'd say intelligent scouting is a mix of unearthing gems and getting in some solid predictable signings. Because of Howe's style and experience coming through the lower leagues and working with English players, we are going to be more likely to look at more of those types, but he gets top returns from them so they can't be overlooked.

Well end up getting more gems of the Brighton ilk in the younger under 21 age group to eventually come through into the first team, as the academy has not been strong.

  5. We are in the age of top coaching and intelligent scouting. We have Howe and Ashworth who are excellent at each role respectively.

The age of lazy high price 'marquee' signings is over if you want to make real progress.

    They just don't get it.

Out of all the signings we've made, I personally think he's the one with the highest ceiling. Still think Howe's not figured out how to unleash his talent just yet, but you can see its there. Imagine in the next few years when he just glides through players in the Prem and unleashes a rocket. Exciting times man.

Yeah, so happy to see him come through pre season without any niggles.

Got a full pre season coming off the back of his strong finish last season.

Think he'll be a real break out star in the league this year.

  7. I think it makes the media more nervous that we haven't been going crazy in the market, and we are signing the types of players Howe is likely to thrive with.

To be fair I don't blame them. I think they should be nervous.

McTominay is anyway. He'll be a very good player for West Ham.

Annoyingly as they are getting Alvarez, McTominay will be free to go box to box.

Don't like Moyes getting Maguire and McTominay along with Alvarez.

Was hoping he'd get stuck with more Scammacca types that he had no clue about.

If Rice is worth over £100m, I can't really say Caicedo isn't.

Caicedo is one of the best midfielders in the league already at just 21 years old.

He can play the holding role, box to box and also slotted into right back last season and played the inverted full back role.

If Havertz is £65 million, Cucurella is £60 million, and £100 million is being paid for Grealish and Rice then Brighton can absolutely ask that for Caicedo.

I think it has absolutely zero relevance to the league

Liverpool won it last year and in better fashion, ultimately meant nothing

Don't get me wrong, don't blame them for being happy, just seems a bit over the top imo

They've lost 8 in a row to them.

This result is a great confidence boost for them going into the season.

Doesn't mean they are going to win the league. No one said that.

From those who have watched him for us so far, was he a better buy than Maddison for our style ?

For a wide player I would say yes. He's more direct and dynamic with the ball and makes forward runs in behind.

Arsenal fans do realise it's not a major trophy, right?

Big win for them psychologically ahead of the start of the season.

A limp loss would have been demoralising after last season especially.

Need a fast centre back for me.

Schar is getting on (niggles?) and Lascelles tries his best but just doesn't make the cut...

Well it's been reported as being a priority and we've been linked with some promising ones so sure we'll see one come in.
