You told him to just "finish it there"?

I was basically saying that I thought a lot of evaluations of him weren't being fair because people just didn't like the player and so there was no point in feeling the need to do that. Obviously they can keep doing it if they want man, I'm hardly demanding they stop commenting. Crikey!

I get what you're saying, but it gets a little old when people argue that someone has a right to have their opinion. We all know this. I certainly wasn't bothered by anything midds said, but Kaka also has a right to express his frustration.

No one is being silenced here.

I don't know why every time I challenge or disagree with a certain train of thought or line of thinking it's insinuated I don't want them to say anything! It's so confusing man

We're all just going back and forth with different ideas and chopping it up. It's all part of the fun for me anyway!

Still not budged on this one, still don't want him here. The better parts of his game we already have, the things we need him to do are the poorest parts of his game. He'd also cost a hell of a lot of money and I think we could get better elsewhere. The only thing in his favour is that he's young and English so any fee could probably recouped in the future. The fact his own fans can't wait to see the back of him is also a bit of a red flag, much prefer if we look elsewhere at a different type of player who would give us what we're currently lacking.

Thank God our scouts do more than peruse fan forums to evaluate players.

According to this forum Joelinton and Almiron were not good enough. Good thing the manager saw and thought better of that.

It's okay to just say you don't like the player or you don't want him. Just finish it there. I'm just not buying all of the additional biased evaluations of his game, and the claims we already have whatever he could offer man. It's just empty chat tainted by your dislike of the guy.

Is he not signing for Villa?

Lots of names being thrown around with different clubs. Not sure what reports are accurate.

I just saw he had also been linked with us, and when I checked out his profile and who he was considered comparable to, I thought it was really interesting that Almiron and Harrison popped up on there. One of who has been great for us this year, and the other of which we tried hard to sign in the summer.

How many goals did Willock score when on loan to NUFC and played in his preferred central role?

Problem is he did that playing off the front man as an outright attacking midfielder with not as much defensive responsibility. As an 8 it hasn't quite been the same.

In any case, if Gallagher comes in I would bring him in for Longstaff initially in the RCM role. Nothing against Longstaff in particular, as I appreciate all the things he adds, but I think Gallagher brings similar qualities, but with better speed, athleticism, ball carrying ability and goal scoring ability.

  6. 1 hour ago, LFEE said:

Not Willock. Longstaff probably but the difference for the outlay in fee and wages doesn’t make it worth it.

Gallagher scored 8 league goals last season for Palace, and they didn't play the most progressive style of football.

He'd add goals to the team. Along with all the energy, work rate, intensity etc that we already know comes with him.

Loan deal would suit us, can’t see them loaning anyone to us though.

Still kind of does them a favour though.

If he comes in and shines then they'll get more money for him next summer.

No one should be doing them any favours right now with all of the stockpiling of players they're doing.

Let them start making them available for cheap then do business with them.

  8. I like Gallagher, but at this point I don't think any club should be paying the actual value for any of their players. I'd bid around half of their values. So for Gallagher I'm bidding £15 million.

If they don't want to sell they can keep all those players on their books and figure out who they won't be registering and then deal with all that palaver.

  9. You know I've noticed there were certain people that claimed it would be a disaster if we didn't get a right winger in the summer and that we'd not manage a European place if we didn't. And it's the same set that have now convinced themselves without Maddison we won't finish top 4.

Always convincing themselves of some imaginary scenario that they are so certain of somehow. Can't wait for the rest of the season to play out man.

Yeah potentially, I just think it's maybe a little cart before the horse in terms of who can make the difference now. Obviously nothing can be ideal all the time though so it's fair enough if that's the situation.

For sure. I think we're going to have to get used to the fact that we are going to be really strict when it comes to transfers.

We will only move on players we really like and have a lot of information on, and we are going to be very strict on our valuations and will not be pushing the boat out, even with the position we're in to possibly finish top 4.

That's the impression I get. Think it's going to be a very tight ship as far as player acquisitions go. And so I think the priority with signings we make will be more based on availability at the valuation that matches ours.

The main thing for me, and I'm sure there's a fair explanation for it, is that the target for ages has been Maddison and he's in my eyes, nearer the finished article and exactly what we need when we're playing against a low block. Both this season and in the future.

Yet that's gone silent and we're now spending more on potential, in a different position.

Seeing will hopefully be believing, I just can't visualise it right now.

I'm not convinced it's one or the other tbh.

I think Gordon is seen as a young player with big potential, and he's a separate signing altogether that we've moved for because of the situation at Everton.

I think we'll still see a move for a Maddison type signing at some point, which is probably more likely to be in the summer, but perhaps something comes up in the next week.

Think Pedro would have been another possibility this month as well if he wasn’t injured.

Yeah, absolutely. Really annoying that they are both out at the minute.

The general consensus on here when looking at players also appears to be take players clubs supporters views as a good benchmark.

I'd agree generally as they see them week in week out. But does feel like Gordon is the current poster boy for Everton's failures.

Mind, we give longstaff a hard time and maybe others see differently.

Yeah, I totally get this. However, we have people in charge that are actually serious about the scouting and background info they collect on players now, and so I just trust their judgement more than even what I might think of a player myself at the minute, and will be willing to see what they can do with any player they decide to bring in.

I remember when Howe came in and was bigging up Joelinton and Almiron, and for the most part we all probably just thought he was trying to lift them for the rest of the season and they'd be gone in the summer. At that point in time if any fan from another club came in here and went into the Joelinton or Almiron threads the general consensus would have been that they weren't anywhere near good enough.

Turns out Howe did actually really see something in the pair of them, and now look at what they are doing.

Terrier is out with a severe injury. Maybe you don't know more than a professional scout? [emoji38]

I was gutted about that injury man. There were some strong rumours the last day of the summer transfer window that we made a late play for him then. I think he would have been on our list for January.

When you look back, though, it’s largely the same crowd that thought Howe was a poor appointment, Pope wasn’t any better than Dubs/a “waste” of our transfer budget when RW was much more urgent, Burn was massively underwhelming, that we shouldn’t be signing Villa’s “backup left back” (I definitely underrated Targett myself, mind), and that our summer business was “very disappointing”.

Some of them have been wrong to be negative on almost every single signing that wasn’t Bruno or Botman, Wood perhaps excluded (even though that’s up for debate), but it’s a win-win position to take.

We’ve got one in our office that is just unhappy about everything. I keep reminding him that we’re breaking records almost every week and now on the verge of Wembley, but he’s still fuming about Gordon and us not signing Perrone, Santos, Fresneda, etc.

    It's so difficult to understand.

The guy has us in third place in the Premier League with players most of us had given up on, or players we didn't rate that highly, performing at impossibly high levels.

It's clear as a manager he saw something in those players that he thought would work well for what he does, and so he'll know what players he wants to bring in that he can continue to get something extra out of that improves the team further.

Having said that. I can understand being slightly disappointed with links to a player you don't quite fancy, but some of the posts have been so certain in their assertions that it would be this huge mistake by the club and manager. I just don't see that at all.

  16. 3 minutes ago, worthy said:

Yeah what I mean by that is blindly following without any thought for yourself. Some people here have gone full RAWK whenever you are negative or post your views. Both ways to be fair but nevertheless.

I also agree with giving the manager that has performed well the tools he wants and think will get the job done, but the man isn’t perfect and it has shown at times, not that anyone can or should. He has done very well, is there luck involved? Yes. I mean now starts the hard part with us struggling to actually finish off games. Is Gordon a 50 million answer to the problems? I think not. I feel there is value to be had from other players around the world that would do the job much better.

Alas, if we get him then hopefully I look like a twat. The last thing I would like to be is right in this instance. Cause with the right players we have a genuinely big shot at top 4.

    Yeah, that's fair.

For what it's worth, I don't believe he's being brought in as a final solution to our problems. I think he's a young player that the manager likes, and because of the situation at Everton he's become available, and they are trying to strike while the irons hot.

Unfortunately, signing the top tier quality players to solve some of the weaker areas of the team, is likely to be very difficult in January, and I'm expecting that to be sorted in the summer more so. Unless someone unexpectedly is made available.

I think outside of Gordon, we'll still be keeping an eye on other forwards and midfielders we like, but whether those deals can be done in Jan is a whole other issue. We'll probably end up with some loans for the time being, but lets see.

I mean, I never support going full cult status with anything. He isn’t some sort of divine entity or cosmic power. He has definitely proved me and many so wrong and I’m super stoked about that, but that won’t stop me being skeptical like with the Wood transfer. Calls’em like I sees’em

    'Cult status' ... okay

People go on about Wood but it was a straightforward deal because of the release clause, and we needed a striker urgently. So there was no faffing about with any negotiations. Completely different circumstances.

I think with Gordon people have weirdly just decided he's a horrible person and he's ugly, based on a few football games they've seen him in, and can't get past that.

I see a young player with a ton of potential that is very well suited to Howe's approach of playing a high intensity style game, as he's talked about. We really lack wide players capable of that at the moment, as only Miggy is really currently performing to the required level.

I believe in backing a manager when it comes to getting them the players they want, especially ones that have performed to as high a level as Howe has in such a short time, and who has shown he will get the very best out of the players he has. It's just that simple.
