Did you watch Burnley the season we signed Wood? That tactic clearly wasn’t working. He was finished by the end of the previous season.

Ashley Barnes was injured that season and so Wood was looking a lot like he did for us when he was tasked to do more in the build up phase holding up the ball. He is so incredibly bad at it it's untrue. Once Barnes got injured Burnley were done. He was the real instrumental piece upfront to their whole approach.

Would definitely hold fire on Moukoko unless there is absolute certainty over his true age being as is claimed.

The latest reports were that he was actually 21.

We should still snap him up even if that report is true. Still a great young prospect who can be had at great value due to his contract situation.

Trossard is a decent signing at that price.

They arent going to win the league with Nketiah up top though.

Based on what? They're so much more than individual names. The team produces goals and assists from several areas. Besides he's started 4 league games and scored a couple of goals already.

One thing I give Arteta credit for is the continued improvement of the young players at the club. I don't see why we couldn't potentially see Nketiah do a good job of stepping in for Jesus and continuing to produce. Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard ... these guys have all taken even more of a leap this season, hence the title challenge.

Mudryk would be first choice though, that’s all I’m saying. I think Trossard is a good signing too but he’s not a better signing than Mudryk.

Ah, I hear you. Yeah, Mudryk is the more exciting long term prospect for sure.

However, I think for where Arsenal are in trying to bring the league title home the rest of the way now, Trossard probably makes more of an immediate impact for them, even as a squad player. Their first 11 is doing the business already, and so they didn't really need an upgrade there necessarily. And we're not sure how quickly Mudryk settles in or adjusts.

yep, that’s what I mean. Coming off the bench. Not a chance he replaces any of their midfielders as first choice

Yeah, I mean I doubt he'd expect to. He'll be a valuable player for them though.

Martinelli has probably played a lot more than he should have really, especially considering his injury history. Now they can give him more of a rest with a quality player stepping in for him when needed.

Trossad can also play on the left, right, as a false 9 and even as one of the more attacking central midfielders and so there'll be lots of opportunities for him to contribute.

He’s going there to sit on the bench though. Good signing for next season I guess.

    Who Trossard?

They still have cup games and European games to play along with the league. He'll play a fair amount starting and coming off the bench as another option to rest players or to try and change games where they need a push.

I guess their style of play isn’t entirely different so it might be an ideal switch for him

Yeah, exactly. It's the same style of football, just a better version of it with better players around him.

He even has a former team mate in Ben White over there too.

Think it's an incredibly smart transfer for them at a fraction of the cost and with no adjustment period needed for the player.

Mudryk to Trossard seems a hell of a difference for Arsenal.

I struggled to see how he’d fit in our system and I can’t see him replacing anyone in the Arsenal first 11.

Arsenal have arguably got the more productive player to advance their title push.

Could see him looking even more dangerous in that Arsenal team. Already managed 7 goals and 3 assists for Brighton in the league this season.

  9. Chris Wood looks like a strong striker that can hold up the ball but he's never been that or close to it. His hold up play is awful and so he isn't really suited to a one striker setup. At Burnley he looked to make runs in behind while Ashley Barnes did all of the hold up play and engaging with defenders.

Nottingham Forest have been playing Gibbs-White in behind both strikers Awoniyi and Brennan Johnson, who both look to make forward runs in behind or into the channels. In that regard he'll probably find things easier and more familiar. With Awoniyi out he'll likely start upfront with Brennan Johnson and give them the size and ability to finish with his head they are now missing upfront.

I think he'll score some goals there for them the rest of the way, so good luck to him. He came in contributed to us staying up, and hasn't dug his heels in about leaving when the opportunity has come along for us to move him on. Fair play to the guy, seems sound.

That makes so much sense for them

It's such a great pickup for Arsenal as an alternative to the Mudryk deal.

Prem proven and suits their style of play. Should settle in really quickly and contribute to their title push.

It's pretty par for the course here TBF. Instead of having a debate about whether Kane would fit into our system, people just go for lazy personal attacks. It's pretty boring, but there are a couple of posters who you can have a conversation with, so I just ignore those who seek validation by parroting what the majority are saying without actually saying anything.

I mean, if it makes you feel better ... I kind of got the gist of what you were saying. Basically that you'd prefer a more dynamic, mobile striker that gets in behind, carries the ball and stays higher up the pitch more often. I kind of get it to be honest. I love those kind of strikers too and do think it suits Howe's approach the best.

The funny thing about what you said about Kane is that these criticisms where being levelled at him throughout the World Cup and often even before that for England, because the wide players weren't looking to make runs in behind and ahead of him often enough and so the attack looked ineffective a lot of the time, and there were often calls for him to stay higher up the pitch because he wasn't deemed to be enough of a goal threat.

I think with our current wide options it would probably be a similar sort of issue, and people would likely start complaining about the same thing. If he did come in we'd certainly need wide players that are a lot more of a threat in behind and who were more consistent goal threats. It's similar to what Liverpool had when they played Firmino with Mane and Salah. Mane and Salah were lethal wide forwards that pushed forward essentially and Firmino could drop and dictate play and it worked very nicely.

Never a red, his studs didn’t hit him. If that’s a red loads of stopping counter attacks should be red as there’s never an attempt to play the ball.

Don't think you can leave the ground and launch into tackles like that anymore. Remember Tiote getting a red for something similar back in the day and he made no contact either.

antony again there. Faster than Hughes, but gives up and passes it backwards.

He is the weirdest player ever man

Has the speed and skill to rinse people, but just can't be arsed

  14. Zaha man ... I feel like most games of his I watch are like this.

Losing the ball loads, shouting and moaning at either the opposition, ref or his team mates, and just being mostly ineffective.

He'll then perhaps pop up with a goal, and everyone will say he's so good. I just don't see it with him.

No idea where he gets his info tbh. Never asked. 1st mentioned this lad on the 16th Dec. Only remember as it was my works Xmas night out. No one had heard of him, his stats weren't great and he got the piss taken out of him.

Spoke again and he said if wood leaves this is still a good shout, so thought I'd hang my hat on it once wood to forest materialised and I found out how to spell his name. Hence I should know better! ?

Ah, I see. It was someone you know personally. Thought you had heard it on some youtube channel or something and so was going to go listen to the full thing.

Fair enough. Well worth sharing anyway. Be interesting to see if there's anything to it
